Show format
Challenge
At the beginning of each episode, the cast is given a challenge, and it is announced whether male or female cast members will compete in the Duel that evening. The Challenges can involve either members of the same gender competing against each other, or groups of both men and women competing against each other.
The Duel
Selection process
Each challenge has a female winner and a male winner. The winner of the gender not entering the Duel is given a prize, while the winner of the gender going into the Duel is safe from the possibility of having to enter the Duel him/herself.
The "safe" (or "immune") contestant begins a voting process by voting for a member of the opposite gender, who then selects a member of the original gender. This process continues until there is one person remaining of the selected Duel gender of the day; this remaining person is assigned to compete in the Duel that evening.
The person "voted" into the Duel then selects a competitor of the same gender to go against him/her that night, and randomly selects from one of four cards held by the host to determine the Duel in which the two players will compete.
Note that this selection process occurs immediately after the challenge, unlike in other Challenges, where there is a period of deliberation between the end of the challenge and the selection of the contestants for the elimination game.
The loser of the Duel is eliminated from the game, and is sent home.
Duel games
- I Can: Players bet on how many specific items they can lift in a cart, such as watermelons, logs, or coffee bags.
- Ascender: Players must climb a rope, pull another rope to release a basket containing puzzle pieces, and climb back down the rope to assemble a tiling puzzle similar to a tangram
- Pole Wrestle: Players are placed at the center of a circle and are asked to place both hands on a wooden pole approximately two feet (0.6 meter) in length. The first contestant to wrestle the pole out of his or her opponent's hands wins the Duel.
- Push Me: This Duel features a pole several yards long, fixed to the ground in the center. A flag is attached by a carabiner to the ground a few yards in front of the pole. Players stand on opposite ends of the pole on the side away from the flag. Each player pushes the pole toward the flag; since the pole is fixed in the center, the players are pushing against each other. They must unclip the flag from the ground (and not merely rip it off the carabiner holding it) to win.

Episode notes
Episodes 1 & 2
The first two episodes were combined into a single one-hour episode.
The challenge was called Reachin' Out. All players (of the same gender) are harnessed to a common spot in the middle of a giant circle. The players must get to the edge of the circle to uncover a key buried in the sand to unlock them from their harness. The first player to do this wins.
There were no teams, but the girls branched off with Robin, Kina, Jodi, and Diem in one direction, Aneesa, Tina, Casey, Paula, and Svetlana in the opposite direction, and Beth in a third direction, perpendicular to the other two groups. Robin ran off when she got close to her key.
The boys branched off into Eric, CT, Brad, and Kenny vs. Derrick, Wes, Evan, Nehemiah, and Tyler. John tried to fight on his own.
Robin and Eric won their respective sex's heats of the first challenge. Robin won two free round trips from Frontier Airlines.
- Order of voting: Eric, Robin, Brad, Jodi, Derrick, Kina, CT, Aneesa, Wes, Tina, Nehemiah, Beth, Evan, Diem, Kenny, Svetlana, John.
- Tyler is sent to the Duel. Casey and Paula were not picked but were automatically safe since it was a male Duel day.
Tyler chose former Key West roommate John to face him in the Duel. Tyler eliminated John from the challenge by lifting 31 watermelons in an "I Can" Duel. Tyler won a Seiko watch.
The second challenge was called Ring Toss. Players start of at one end on the mud pool. Players dive in and swim to the other side to retrieve anyone's ring but their own (they are color coded) and place at the designated pole (they are also color coded) at the other end in which they started. Once a player has all his/her rings on the pole, they are out.
Males went first. They teamed up against Wes and Tyler because they are fast in the water.
Evan was disqualified for blocking Kenny from the poles.
The final two males were Kenny and Tyler. Kenny won.
Females went second. A very emotional scene occurred when Diem did not want to take off her wig, but Robin and a few other girls (Jodi, Kina) requested to wear a swimming cap so Diem would feel better.
The final two females were Diem and Kina and Diem defeated Kina by one ring.
Kenny and Diem won the second challenge. Kenny won a Serato DJ Scratch Kit.
Meanwhile, Tina shoulder checks Beth and says, "Don't f<bleep> with me, bitch." Beth says, "Takes one to know one." Tina then says, "How would you like a mud bath with that Botox?" and walks away angrily. Beth doesn't let the situation slide and confronts Tina, saying "You don't f<bleep>ing touch me! You don't f<bleep>ing nudge me!" Tina threatens to "f<bleep> you up! Trust. Trust!" Beth, undeterred, dared Tina to hit her, saying, "I'm not afraid of you!" A couple of seconds later, Tina punches Beth in the face. Tina is subsequently sent home for violating the "no assault" rule, saying in an aside moment that it was worth it and that she "took care of business". With the help Nehemiah, Beth made an African Voodu doll of Tina, and Beth stabs it with a sewing pin.
Episode 3
As a result of Tina punching Beth, there is no female Duel.
The challenge was Pass With Care. The challenge was walking across a very unstable bridge. If players touched the bridge with anything other than their feet, they were out. Also if they fell off the bridge, they were out. This would be happening all while a partner tries to cross the bridge from the other end. TJ separated the males and females and told the males they had to run to the female that they wanted to be their partner. Then, because Tyler won the last Duel, he picked the order in which the pairs would go. No pair made it across the bridge (although Diem did but CT, her partner, fell.) so they moved on to round two which allowed the players to use their whole bodies to get across the bridge.
The teams for the challenge were Kenny and Beth, Derrick and Kina, Evan and Jodi, Nehemiah and Aneesa, Wes and Svetlana, Eric and Robin, Tyler and Paula, CT and Diem, and Brad and Casey.
Jodi and Evan won the Pass With Care challenge allowing Evan to be safe from The Duel. Jodi won an Infocus Projector.
- Order for selections in men's Duel: Evan, Jodi, Nehemiah, Aneesa, Wes, Robin, Eric, Beth, Brad, Diem, CT, Kina, Derrick, Casey, Kenny.
- Tyler was once again picked for the Duel. Svetlana and Paula were not picked but were automatically safe since it was a male Duel day.
Tyler chose Derrick to face him in the Duel, in which Tyler was sent home. Derrick won an Xbox 360.
Episode 4
The challenge, Roller Derby, was dubbed "the most brutal challenge ever" by host TJ Lavin.
Players would be roller skating in gender heats. Whoever made 10 laps around the track first would win. The catch was that players can tackle, push, and shove other players. If a player goes over the railing, that player is out. Also they could not hold onto the railing for more than 3 second. Finally, if a player is off the track for more than 3 seconds, that player is out. You win by doing 10 laps first or by being the last person standing.
The male heats were Kenny, Wes, Evan, Brad and Nehemiah, Eric, Derrick, CT.
Brad won the men's heat and won a BMW motorcycle. The final heat was between him and CT. In this challenge, Brad ripped his uniform so he started to wear a plain green shirt without the Brazilian Flag or his name on it.
Jodi won the women's challenge and won immunity. The final heat was among her, Svetlana, and Casey.
In the selection for the Duel, Svetlana and Paula were the last two remaining. Eric ("Big E") had to choose between them. Paula told him (in hand motions) to pick Svetlana to be safe, thus leading to her elimination.
Paula picks Aneesa to go to the Duel with her. Aneesa won a Seiko Watch.
Episode 5
The Challenge was Push Over. It was a classic grudge match where players would push each other off a plank hanging off a ship. The catch was that every players hands were tied together. It was broken up into heats, semis, and finals.
The female heats were (winner first) Jodi vs. Casey, Robin vs. Kina, Beth vs. Diem, and Svetlana vs. Aneesa. The female semis were Beth vs. Jodi and Robin vs. Svetlana. The final was Beth vs. Robin. Beth won the mission and a set of golf clubs from Callaway Golf with a free lesson.
The male heats were Evan vs. Nehemiah, Brad vs. Kenny, Eric vs. Wes, and Derrick vs. CT. The male semis were Brad vs. Evan and Derrick vs. Eric. The final was Derrick vs. Brad. Derrick won the mission.
- The order was Derrick, Jodi, Evan, Robin, Brad, Diem, Eric, Svetlana, Kenny, Kina, CT, Casey, Wes.
- Nehemiah was picked to go to the Duel. He then picked Kenny. Nehemiah won a Seiko Watch.
Beth called Jodi's alliance with Kina, Robin, and Diem the "Drama Mafia". Beth made an alliance with Aneesa, Wes, and Nehemiah to take down the "Drama Mafia"
Episode 6
Beth added Svetlana and Casey to her alliance.
The mission was Flying Leap. Players had to jump back and forth from two platforms that were 7 feet apart from each other and 20 above the water. After each jump, players would collect a flag that was at the end of the platform. Whoever had the most flags after jumping for 3 minutes would win the mission. They went two people at a time. Falling off the platform would lead to a disqualification.
Casey was too afraid to jump. Only three females got placed. Kina and Robin and Svetlana. Kina and Robin tied with 21 flags. Svetlana with 22.
CT, Evan, and Wes were the top three. Wes in third, Evan in second, and CT beating Evan by two flags. Players said Derrick was going as fast as CT and could have beaten him if he had not fallen of the platform at the last minute.
CT won the challenge for males and Svetlana won the challenge for females, making herself immune from the Duel. Svetlana won due to a last minute entry since the flag "was the same color as her swimsuit." Svetlana was happy she had won the challenge and said " It felt good to watch Robin, Jodi, and Kina squirm in fear for they may be left because they didn't get picked." CT won two free round-trips from Frontier Airlines.
- It was a female Duel day and Casey was picked for the Duel. She had chosen Robin to come in with her. Brad and Robin were talking strategy. The Duel was Pole Wrestle. Casey was hoping in the Duel the smaller person would have had the advantage (i.e. Ascender or the fourth game which had not yet been revealed). In the Duel Robin won, sending Casey home. Robin also won a Xbox 360.
Episode 7
It was a female/male partner challenge. The pairs were Wes & Svetlana, Nehemiah & Aneesa, Eric & Beth, Evan & Kina, CT & Diem, Derrick & Jodi, and Brad & Robin. Evan and Kina took first place, resulting in immunity for Evan from the Duel. Wes and Svetlana came in second place. CT and Diem took third place. Kina won an Infocus Projector.
The challenge involved a giant swing where one partner would "launch" the other player into water where they would swim to retrieve and soccer ball and then put it in a ring. If the ball went out of bounds, the team was disqualified. The faster time would win.
The challenge's name was not said throughout the whole episode but on the next episode, it gave a summary of this episode saying "Evan and Kina won the Throw Back challenge"
Aneesa was not chosen by anybody to Nehemiah chose her at the same time "Black people unite."
Once again, players said Derrick would win but he threw the ball and it didn't land in the ring and went out of bounds so he and Jodi were disqualified.
During Beth and Eric's turn, Beth jumped too soon and she landed half way out of bounds.
- The order was Evan, Kina, Derrick, Jodi, Brad, Robin, CT, Diem, Wes, Beth, Nehemiah.
- Eric was sent into the Duel and felt betrayed by Diem for picking Wes over him.
Eric then chose Nehemiah to go into the Duel with him. The Duel had Eric lifting 165 logs, the maximum amount. Nehemiah was sent home by Eric after doing an "I Can" Duel, further weakening Beth's alliance. Eric won an Xbox 360. Since Nehemiah had no chance to try the "I Can" Duel and Eric bet the limit of logs (165 logs) and Nehemiah was not aloud to bet higher., some felt it was unfair for him to go home.
Episode 8
Brad and Beth had an argument which also involved Svetlana, who felt like going home after Brad said "really mean things" to her. However, Brad later stated that the misunderstanding between them had been squashed when he realized Beth was behind the entire incident.
CT and Jodi won the challenge, which was called "Rafty Race." CT won a Kite Rider. The challenge had the players racing each other. The first leg of the race involved the players running in swim flippers and then getting a tag. There were less tags then people so whoever didn't get a tag was eliminated. Then the players who got the tags would use a pump to pump up a deflated raft. Whenever they wanted to, players would take their rafts into the water to retrieve a paddle. Again, there were less paddles then people so whoever didn't get a paddle was eliminated. Finally, players raced on their rafts to keys. Whoever didn't get the key was out. Players who got the keys would race to the shore where they unlocked a treasure chest containing a flag. The player to get the flag across the finish line first won the challenge.
- The order was Jodi, CT, Diem, Evan, Robin, Derrick, Kina, Brad, Beth, Eric, Aneesa.
- Svetlana was left out. Robin told Brad to pick Beth because she feared Beth would choose her to Duel in case she was sent in.
Svetlana said her choice was between Robin (to get back at Brad because she was mad at him) or Beth (she hated her and wanted to send her home). She chose Beth. The Duel introduced the fourth and final option, "Push Me". It also featured the second time the Duel was won due to a technicality, the first being Eric reaching the maximum number of logs in "I Can." Beth pushed the pole all the way, but accidentally ripped the flag off the carabiner, which caused her to be disqualified. Svetlana gave up after thinking she lost but the judges said Beth was disqualified ("DQ"-ed) for ripping the flag off. Brad was the first to congratulate Svetlana for winning. Wes lost another member of his already-shrinking alliance. Svetlana won a Seiko watch.
Episode 9
It was Diem's birthday.
The challenge was called "Pole Dance." It was a challenge with two teams; the team leaders were CT and Eric. CT won the last challenge and Eric won the last Duel. CT chose Diem, Evan, Robin, Wes, and Svetlana to be on his team. Eric chose Jodi, Brad, Kina, Derrick, and Aneesa to join his team. The first part of the challenge involved players trying to get their teammates up a 20 foot tall, greased up pole to retrieve a flag. Which ever team did this first moved onto the next part of the challenge. Diem got the flag first so CT's team won. They moved on to the next part of the challenge which was the players (on their own now) racing across the sand to reach two huge slip and slide mats that they had to climb up. In part two, Diem beat out Robin and Svetlana, while Evan beat out CT and Wes. Diem won a full set radio and audio system for her car, which was presented to her mostly as a birthday present, while Evan won immunity from that night's Duel.
- The order chosen for The Duel was: Evan, Diem, CT, Jodi, Derrick, Kina, Eric, Robin, Brad.
- Wes was left out as he asked Robin to vote him into the Duel.
It was then when Wes decided to take Derrick into the Duel with him. Wes did this just to see who was the "King of Duels, Exiles etc." The Duel for the night was "Pole Wrestle." People were scared because both players were very competitive and were thinking they could really hurt each other during the Duel. In an extremely physical Duel, Wes and Derrick wrestles for about 20 minutes until Wes was finally able to take the pole out of Derrick's hands. Derrick was eliminated from the challenge. TJ said it was the craziest elimination round he has ever seen.
A very emotional Derrick felt defeated as he was sent home from his fifth challenge, and going home empty handed once again. Derrick said "I need to go home and re-evaluate what I'm going to do with my life." Wes said he respected Derrick a lot and felt like naming Derrick the godfather of his children. Wes became emotional over sending Derrick home as well when he called his girlfriend, and former Real World cast member Johanna (of RW: Austin). Wes told her he felt tired, and broke down to tears telling her how much he loved her and wanted to marry her. He also said he did not want to be in the challenge any longer.
Episode 10
After a night out of drinking, Robin and Aneesa were involved in an argument, which exploded when Robin said hurtful comments to Aneesa, comments about Aneesa's race and sexuality. Robin states 'Aneesa you confuse the f<bleep> out of me. You're gay, straight, lesbina, Puerto Rican, Portuguese, PICK SOMETHING!" Aneesa said she would forgive Robin for her comments, but she would not forget. Brad also felt hurt and angry by Robin's comments to Aneesa, saying "You don't play gay cards! You don't play race cards!"
The challenge was called "Dine N Dash." It was a team challenge; the team leaders were Svetlana and Diem. Svetlana won the last Duel and Diem won the last challenge. Svetlana chose Eric, Jodi, Brad, and Aneesa to be on her team. Diem chose CT, Robin, Evan, and Kina. Wes was left out, therefore he did not have to participate in the challenge. The challenge had the participants eating as much food as they could and whoever gained the most weight in 20 minutes would win. Diem's team won.
In order to have a female and male winner, part two of the challenge had the cast running collecting ten flags and placing them in a basket. The female winner was Diem, and her prize was immunity for that night's Duel. The male winner was CT; however, he was disqualified for collecting the flags in the wrong order. Evan was the new winner.
- The order for the Duel was: Diem, CT, Jodi, Evan, Kina, Brad, Robin, Wes, Svetlana.
- Brad had second thoughts about saving Robin from the Duel; he was still offended by her comments to Aneesa, but he decided to choose her in the end because of unrequited love. They met during their season of The Real World, San Diego. To Brad, their friendship was stronger than competition.
- Aneesa was left out and sent into the Duel.
Aneesa then chose Robin to join her in the Duel, for obvious reasons. The Duel game chosen was "Ascender." Aneesa won the Duel and an Xbox 360. Brad said he was affected and hurt for losing his long-time friend Robin from the Duel, but he said it would not let him affect his game plans.
Episode 11
Diem and CT continued their "love" to a new level and they kissed, as CT was asking Diem when she would finally kiss him. Eric and Brad talked strategy, and a way to have each other's backs in the game. Wes and Evan talked strategy as well, thinking about sending Eric to the Duel and making him choose CT to go in with him to take him out. Svetlana and Brad form a close relationship.
The challenge was called "Stacking Stairs." It was a female-male partner challenge; the teams were Wes & Svetlana, Evan & Jodi, CT & Diem, Eric & Aneesa, and Brad & Kina. The pairs had to take crates and stack them high enough to retrieve a flag. The first heat was won by Evan & Jodi. The pair with the fastest time in the second heat were Wes & Svetlana, but unfortunately Wes' stairs fell down when he made the jump. The winners of the challenge were Evan & Jodi.
- The order selected for the Duel was: Evan, Jodi, CT, Diem, Brad, Svetlana, Wes.
- Eric was left out, as were Kina and Aneesa.
Eric turned his back on his friend Brad and chose him for the Duel. The Duel game was "Pole Wrestle." People feared for Brad because of Eric's weight. Brad eliminated Eric from the challenge as he took the pole out of Eric's hands. Brad won an Xbox 360, and Eric was sent home. Eric is sort of happy and says, "I wouldn't be any happier to see Brad win the money"
CT sees Diem jogging and he follows her and takes her to a cliff, where Diem said she preferred to be kissed. Diem finally made a move and kissed CT, while the rest of the cast watched them without Diem noticing. When Wes told Diem everyone saw the kiss, Diem felt embarrassed, but did say that it was the best kiss of her life.
Episode 12
Diem and CT continue their romance. Diem says that she is glad that CT finally kissed her, because they can now kiss over and over again.
Svetlana and Aneesa become close friends. Svetlana says that she would leave if her dad called and told her to go home, but she also said that if sent into a Duel, she would not give up.
Kina and Jodi talk strategically. Kina says, "I may be little, but I'll f<bleep>ing kill you!" Aneesa comes and talks about the duel. Kina says, "I won't vote for you."
The challenge is Ice Breakers. The players had to grab big blocks of ice and then smash them with hammers in order to turn the ice into small enough chunks to fall through thin grates. The small chunks would collect in a bucket. After 5 minutes of smashing, the buckets were weighed and whoever had the most weight in their bucket would win. Evan and Jodi won.
- Order of voting: Jodi, Evan, Diem, CT, Kina, Brad, Aneesa.
Wes was not picked but was automatically safe since it was a female Duel day. Brad voted for Aneesa, because she and Svetlana had an agreement to alternate which one of them went into the Duel.
Svetlana was left to go into the Duel, and chooses Kina to go against her. Her reasons were because she was friends with Aneesa, Diem was too good of a person and really needs the money, and Kina had been fake to her through out the challenge (Jodi had immunity). Svetlana picks the card, Push Me and says that she is disappointed in picking that one because it's such a pain in the ass.
In the Duel, after almost 45 minutes, Svetlana gives a final hard push, sending Kina whirling around the arena and Svetlana scrambles to grab her flag. Svetlana wins another Seiko Watch, and Kina goes home.
After Kina realizes that she lost, she cries hysterically and says she thinks her foot is broken. Svetlana at first feels bad for hurting her, but later says Kina was only trying to make a scene to try to make Svetlana feel bad about having sent her home.
Episode 13
Episode 13, "Sunken Treasure", did not air on December 28, 2006. On January 4, 2007, there will be a one-hour long special that airs episodes 13 & 14. Episode 13 started with Wes talking strategy with Evan, who is scared about CT and says that he is the only player standing between his money.
CT said he did not care about anyone else other than Diem, and that he wanted to win with and for her.
The challenge was called "Sunken Treasure"
It was a team challenge, Wes & Svetlana, Jodi & Evan, Brad & Aneesa, and CT & Diem.
Wes & Svetlana are the only team to finish the challenge, every other team fails to complete the mission.
Wes wins safety from the Duel, while Svetlana wins a $12,000 USD BMW Motorcycle.
The order chosen for the duel was: Wes, Svetlana, Brad, Aneesa, and CT.
Diem was automatically saved because it was not a female duel day.
Evan was left out, and he chose CT to go with him into the duel.
CT asked Evan, "Any reason in particular?" Evan answered: "Might as well get it done now than later".
The duel game was "Ascender"
Evan showed up to the duel with the duel puzzle solution written in on his hand and arm, the host TJ Lavin made him wipe it off, it was cheating.
CT wins the Duel,Diem runs up to give him a kiss.
Evan is eliminated and sent home.
