In mid-January 2021, VoxPop released its updated v2.0 application for small-scale independent game developers and video game influencers.
Overview
VoxPop Games was co-founded in 2019 by Charles Fang Yu and Marc Anthony Rodriguez in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York. Fang Yu is a computer science and game design graduate from Tisch School of Arts and Rodriguez is TEDx & PG Connects 2022 presenter and bachelor of philosophy & Latin American Studies graduate of Stony Brook University.
In March 2020, the company entered a public beta release and launched it's proprietary peer-to-peer distribution application client, as both a website and a standalone launcher, of which the latter is required to download and play games. VoxPop's application software is designed to aid indie game developers' generation of game sales by allowing the sharing of a percentage of their sales to those who recommended the game or seed the game files they download.
VoxPop Games has partnered with various independent publishers that include Rogue Games, Fulqrum Publishing, Bonus Stage Publishing, and Graffiti Games. The e-commerce games storefront hosts over 300+ indie game titles as of September 2022, which includes many "Made For VoxPop" exclusive game content features & platform exclusive games not found for purchase on any other indie games storefront.
Revenue
The developers can charge money for the games they release onto the VoxPop digital storefront application. By default, the site earns an operational partnership revenue, a 15% cut from each game's sale, but the indie developer and/or publishers can choose how much money they would like to allocate out as user incentives (labeled by the application as "Pop Share") with an initial developer and publisher recommendation of 3% to start from each game sold.
Developers have the power contractually and can set the lowest price for the game (including free), and the customer can pay and receive passive monetary compensation from recommending their owned games to their friends & cohorts. If they are a social media influencer or game streamer they can utilize the tools within the client application to earn passive income from advocating to their viewers to purchase games using their VoxPop Games storefront external link (akin to Pateron or Ko-Fi)
