AWB reference issues
Hi, please tag me here if you spot any issues with my AWB editing. I've been running a find+replace script on several thousand pages to fix up references to sources typically used for Korea-related articles. It's still in development, so sometimes it changes the same page several times due to the new features. toobigtokale (talk) 11:43, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- Also see Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Korea#AWB reference edits for more discussion on my AWB edits. toobigtokale (talk) 20:11, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
References needing fixing
Since you have been fixing references, I am posting it here.
There are cases where the |last=
, |first=
, or |author=
parameter in a citation template (Template:Cite web, Template:Cite news, etc.) contains the string 기자.
- One very interesting case I found:
|last=더보기> |first=이정찬 기자 <다른 기사
(found in Andre Jin Coquillard)
You may want to fix these as well. 172.56.232.228 (talk) 20:58, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, will make an effort to fix. toobigtokale (talk) 22:42, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- Also, note that you get an error if there are 2
|first=
parms, as in this edit, Only the 2nd one will display -- the 1st one is ignored. Davemck (talk) 14:06, 29 February 2024 (UTC)- Usually I spot that type of error, but that mistake slipped past me. Thank you for pointing it out. toobigtokale (talk) 20:50, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for that fix. There are several more; you can see them on Category:Articles using duplicate arguments in template calls. Davemck (talk) 01:53, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- Gah. Thanks for pointing that out. Some pages I have to review several dozen changes so I end up missing things like that. I'll try to be more thorough. toobigtokale (talk) 01:54, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- In case you're interested @Davemck, I finished up my round of large-scale AWB edits, see Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Korea#AWB reference edits. Please let me know if you know of any other way I can look for my own mistakes, like by using the category linked above. Thank you for the help 🙂 toobigtokale (talk) 02:09, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

DYK for António Corea
On 29 February 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article António Corea, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the slave António Corea may have been the first Korean to visit Europe? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/António Corea. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, António Corea), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

AWB to tag CJK text
hey there! do you have a fairly robust way of identifying untagged text in Hangul etc. with AWB, or is it still mostly manual for you? I've been trying to hack it so I can safely do it but it's too finnicky to trust still. Remsense诉 00:29, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- I'm currently able to automatically identify text that someone improperly tagged (i.e. someone manually typed in variations on
Hangul:
), and I can automatically replace it with proper wrapping. It can handle spaces/numbers, but it breaks if English text or special chars are part of the target string. Untagged altogether I haven't tested out yet. Brainstorming; maybe could search for(?<koreantext>(|\ |)+)
(arbitrary nametag<koreantext>
so can recall later for replacement) and do a lookahead/lookbehind for lack of proper wrapping? I think that may work for many cases, but it'd still break if it runs into English or special chars. toobigtokale (talk) 00:40, 4 March 2024 (UTC)- I was thinking about starting a public file to share relevant AWB snippets. Remsense诉 00:41, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Yea that sounds good! My code is a little hacky but I can drop in cleaner bits lol toobigtokale (talk) 00:43, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- here we are! Remsense诉 00:55, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- I'll update you later, but I've been gradually improving my detection code. I may not get around to the general unwrapped case in the near future though. toobigtokale (talk) 05:40, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
- Sick! Thank you. Remsense诉 06:21, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

On 15 March 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article The Korea Daily News, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Glad you like my contribution
I only have a Korean-American mother, hence I'm a Korean speaker on a near native-level, but I don't consider myself as a Korean ever since my family settled in Japan since the 1990s. I'm actually more Japanese-American. I'm mostly making new articles for very obscure American music composers and Shinto. Anyways, thank you. Komitsuki (talk) 14:37, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- Just a heads up; I read your bio after sending the thanks and was taken aback. I know you had your own experience that I 100% respect and believe, but to claim that living there is universally bad for everyone is a little insulting to the experiences of me and others who had/have great memories there.
- At the very least I'd never write such publicly about any specific country, even ones that I had bad experiences in. You avoidably alienate people if you do that. toobigtokale (talk) 15:29, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
Formatting
Hi Toobigtokale,
when you reformat Korean stuff, please make sure to not make changes to file names like you accidentally did here.
Kind regards, Grueslayer 11:23, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- Ah darn. Sorry about that, I normally try to look out for that but missed that one. Thanks for calling that out. toobigtokale (talk) 19:02, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for all your edits! ;-) KR, Grueslayer 18:37, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
