Synopsis
Upon emerging from her hideout in the Nevada desert, Alice (Milla Jovovich) is quickly joined by old friends Carlos Oliveira (Oded Fehr) and L.J. (Mike Epps). They also meet up with a whole batch of other survivors, including no-nonsense tough girl Claire Redfield (Ali Larter), K-Mart girl (Spencer Locke), and a fire-powered Florence Nightingale named Nurse Betty (Ashanti). Now instilled with super-human strength, senses, and dexterity as a result of the biogenetic experimentation conducted on her by the Umbrella Corporation, Alice and the rest of the survivors set out to eliminate a virus that threatens to turn every living human undead, and ensure that the mysterious organization pays the price for their horrific crimes against humanity.
Plot Summary
Template:Spoilers Resident Evil: Extinction is set in between 3 - 5 years after the events of Apocalypse. The Umbrella Corporation has failed to control a series of T-Virus outbreaks around the world, killing nearly every human. With little of humanity left, a handful of survivors are travelling around the remnants of the world in heavily armored convoys that go to the least populated parts of the world.
Plot Details
The opening scene consists of Alice being thrown into a pit of dogs. This was confirmed by the writer himself Paul WS Anderson. Alice will fight her way out of the pit. Milla Jovovich was also interviewed while in the process of shooting this scene. The interview was on YouTube, but was soon removed.
- The complex story is said to pick up 5 years after the events of Apocalypse.
- The beginning of "Extinction" picks up with Alice and cabdriver L.J. (Epps) riding a modified school bus across the wasteland once known as the United States after the death of Angela Ashford. Desperate for help anywhere they can get it, the duo recruit no-nonsense tough girl Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) and a fire-powered Florence Nightingale named Nurse Betty (Ashanti). Some scenes of the trailer hint at a romance between Carlos and Alice.

Production
Resident Evil: Extinction was officially announced by Sony Screen Gems on June 13, 2005 months after Apocalypse's release in North America. The producers also openly discussed the possibility of following this sequel with a fourth film. However, a more recent press release indicates that this third film may in fact be the last. This was later confirmed in the official plot synopsis as revealed by ComingSoon.
On November 7, 2005, Davis Film, Constantin Film and Screen Gems announced their distribution rights worldwide. The film's title was also later changed from Resident Evil: Afterlife to Resident Evil: Extinction with the film's director Russell Mulcahy signing on. Principal photography began in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico in May, 2006 (after being pushed back from November 05 > March 06 > April 06 > May 06) and entered post-production in late July 2006 . The film's budget is estimated to be $45,000,000 and the special effects are covered by Tatopoulos Studios, whom also worked on the 2006 film Silent Hill.
In late June, 2006 Sony released the first 2 production stills .

It was also revealed that the film was rated R by the MPAA for Non stop violence, Language and Some Nudity. The trailer is now up on the official site. It was also in Disturbia on April 13 2007
- The trailer hints that at least part of the film will take place in ruins of Las Vegas.
- The teaser for this film was similar to the teaser for Resident Evil: Apocalypse in that they both started out as a seemingly normal advertisements, RE:A's being a skin care product, and RE:E's being a promo for the Las Vegas night life.
- The teaser trailer opens with the song "I Know It's You" by The Crystal Method off their Legion of Boom album which features vocals by Milla Jovovich.
- The woman stepping out of the pool in the 'advertisement' in the trailer is the same woman who was in the commerical for Regenerate in RE: Apocalypse

Trivia
- Though the film-series was originally planned as a four-part series, the official site for Extinction now states this will be the final film in the series.
- Alice's new costume was designed by Milla Jovovich's clothing line, Jovovich-Hawk.
- The production still of Alice holding two Kukri knives is a visual reference to Apocalypse's Poster.
- Extinction is said it will include more action and gore than Apocalypse. In an interview with MTV, Milla stated that unexpected things are going to happen to several of the characters.
- The film was originally intended to be filmed in the Australian Outback but was changed to Mexico.
- Linden Ashby previously worked with Anderson on Mortal Kombat.
Game connections
- According to Movies Online, the film will borrow plot elements from Code Veronica.
- Mulcahy stated that several new creatures will appear. Only the Crows have been confirmed.
- Paul Anderson stated a character from the earlier games will appear. During an episode of Game Head it was confirmed that Albert Wesker will be making an appearance, played by Jason O'Mara. Fans have speculated this since Sony purchased the rights from Capcom to use the character in 2005.
- The tagline for now is "Experimentation...Evolution...Extinction".
- Like Resident Evil 5 (the game), Extinction takes place in a dry, harsh, desert wilderness. This is a huge departure from the usual dark and drab locations of most zombie films and games. Try comparing to From Dusk Till Dawn.
- Alice returns to the mansion featured in the first film, or a replica (direct reference to Code:Veronica), probably Spencer Mansion.
- Chris Redfield will be in this next installment
New characters
- Paul Anderson created new characters for the film including: Nurse Betty (Ashanti), Mikey (Chris Egan), Evan (Jamie Patrick Millar), Kmart (Spencer Locke), Envoy (William Abadie), Runt (Ramón Franco), Pockmart (Geoff Meed), Alexander Slater (Matthew Marsden) and Barry (Jordan Shannon).
