Shortcuts Guild of Copy Editors' requests page

On this page, you can request that the Guild of Copy Editors copy-edit specific articles.

Instructions for requesters

To make a request, remove any existing {{copy edit}} tags from the article, then click this button and follow the instructions:

Manual instructions (if the button doesn't work)

To make a request, add your article, using the following format, to the bottom of this page:

===]===
Your comments ~~~~

Please remove any existing {{copy edit}} tags from the article to avoid edit conflicts during the copy edit.

Please note:

  • No request by an unregistered editor will be accepted unless the IP has done significant work on the article. Drive-by IP requests already on the list may be declined by any editor.
  • The average waiting time is two or so months. Please be patient and feel free to improve your requested article while you wait.
  • If you plan to nominate the article for good article, A-class or featured article status, please wait until the copy edit is complete before nominating it.
  • Having your article copy edited by our team does not guarantee that the prose will be considered acceptable during any of the above reviews.
  • You may have up to two open requests at any one time. This is enforced so that every request can have a fair chance of being fulfilled within a reasonable period.

Requests may be declined if the article is:

Instructions for copy editors
  • Once you have accepted a request, it may be helpful to add a section to the article's Talk page explaining that you will be copy-editing the article and that other editors are welcome to post questions and comments for you while you are doing so. Remember to add another note when you are done.
  • Please ensure that you are familiar with the Misplaced Pages Manual of Style and the expectations for editing for the GOCE outlined in our Step by Step guide. The simplified Manual of Style is here. A number of national varieties of English are present throughout the encyclopedia, and no one variety is preferred. Keep spelling and date formatting consistent within an article.
  • When you accept a request, place an indented {{Working}} template immediately beneath the request and sign your post with four tildes (~~~~) so other copy editors know not to accept it.
  • Accept only one request at a time.
  • Articles that are potential Featured Article candidates should be handled by experienced editors.
  • If you have accepted a request but cannot fulfill it for any reason, please amend it with either:
    • a note of the sections you have completed so someone else can complete the copy edit, or;
    • a suitable template: {{Not done}}, {{Partly done}}, or Abandoned (not a template!). Please make a good-faith effort to complete a copyedit; excessive use of the "Partly done" template does little (or nothing) to reduce the backlog.
    • If the article is unstable, experiencing rapid development, an ongoing edit war or apparent ownership issues, open a discussion on Requests talk to inform project coordinators.
    • Acceptances that appear to have been abandoned will be checked after a reasonable period, usually one week after the timestamp. In cases of complete inactivity we will ask for an update on your talk page. If no response is received within one further week, the {{Working}} template will be removed so other editors may complete the copy edit.
  • When you have completed a request, add the template {{Done}} below the request and sign your post with four tildes (~~~~) and a bot will archive it in about 24 hours. In limited circumstances (breakdowns etc.), you can add the details of the request to the archive page then remove the request here by blanking the subsection. Do not delete the original request without archiving it.
  • Please consider adding the templates {{GOCE|user={{subst:REVISIONUSER}}|date={{subst:date}}}} on the talk page of articles you have copy edited and {{GOCEtb|article=Insert article name|sign=~~~~}} to the talk page of the requester.

Instructions for coordinators
  • Stale requests marked as "Working": Acceptances that appear to have been abandoned should be checked for activity after a reasonable period, usually one week after the timestamp. In cases of complete inactivity, a coordinator should ask for an update on the copy editor's talk page. Write "Asked X for update on talk page" below the "Working" line on the Requests page. If no response is received within one further week, the {{Working}} template should be removed so that other editors may complete the copy edit.
  • Quality control: Articles from the Requests page that are completed by newer editors should be reviewed for quality by a coordinator, time permitting. The top priority is to review articles that are FA candidates; the second priority, GA and DYK candidates.

Zemstvo

I put this article up for GA-R (GAN) which failed and the reviewer recommend I seek assistance here. I think it's possible I have read this article too many times to be of much assistance. Czarking0 (talk) 18:24, 29 November 2024 (UTC)

Working I'll try my best! 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 (My "blotter") 03:26, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
@TheNuggeteer, are you still working on this article? You have not edited it since 20 December. Mox Eden (talk) 07:29, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
Is it okay to withdraw? I lost my motivation in working on this article. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 (My "blotter") 11:33, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
@TheNuggeteer: Yes, but make sure to mark this request as "Partly done" and do tell where in the article you stopped on for future copyeditors. Mox Eden (talk) 13:25, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
I've reverted TheNuggeteer's changes because they changed the meanings of several sentences; see my note n their talk page here (permalink). Baffle☿gab 20:42, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
Not done I did some copyedits, but they were, in whole, reverted because of improper copyediting. Hopefully, another copyeditor will edit this article and make it better than I can. Good luck, and happy new year! 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 (My "blotter") 02:35, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
Working – I've been prompted by this to get out six volumes on 19th-century Russian history. I think that I had better take this, even though I have another article I'm working on. Dhtwiki (talk) 06:24, 5 January 2025 (UTC)

Humpback whale

Old FA. I recently added some more text. Would appreciate a copyedit. Thanks in advance. LittleJerry (talk) 00:06, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

Legends of Tomorrow season 2

Episode plot summary makes little sense to those who haven't watched the series. A possible GAN. Questions? four Olifanofmrtennant (she/her) 17:33, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

El Alma al Aire

Just expanded from sandbox. Will nominate for GA (GAN) in the near-future but I plan to go for FA (FAC) in the long run. Erick (talk) 06:28, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

Article translated from ru.wiki. I would like to nominate it for featured article (FAC) as article is complete, but my English grammar is not too good. Sławobóg (talk) 14:45, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

Claire Redfield

Recently promoted FA. But, I want to make sure there we aren't missing any grammar lapses and typos since I added a tad bit more. 🍕BP!🍕 (🔔) 22:38, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

Weaving a Story 2: oral stage

Another NGE article. For a future GAN.--TeenAngels1234 (talk) 07:42, 12 December 2024 (UTC)

Muhammad al-Baqir

As part of an initiative to improve articles about key Shia figures, this particular article has recently undergone a major revision. Before nominating it for GA (GAN), I'm asking for your help to further improve the prose. Thanks! Albertatiran (talk) 15:10, 13 December 2024 (UTC)

Devoured by the Mouth of Hell

GAN: content-wise this is ready, but am having trouble making it read clearer, especially in Background and recording and composition; would like to see someone else give this a shot at writing. // Chchcheckit (talk) 14:02, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

Allied occupation of the eastern Adriatic

I would like to submit Allied occupation of the eastern Adriatic article to GAN. I trust its prose would benefit from a copyedit before the nomination. Thanks! --Tomobe03 (talk) 11:56, 25 December 2024 (UTC)

Jadranska straža

I plan to nominate this article as a GAN. I would appreciate a copyedit before the nomination. Cheers. Tomobe03 (talk) 16:51, 27 December 2024 (UTC)

Holden Commodore (VE)

Could use a slight copy edit. Former featured article, which I got repromoted to GA status. Would like to make sure it's in good shape before taking to FA (FAC). 750h+ 17:42, 27 December 2024 (UTC)

H-1B visa

Has been the subject of a recent student editing project. Multiple style issues, such as expert sources being introduced multiple times, repetitive information within two different paragraphs in a single section. Currently in the news because of Ramaswamy's recent statements, and page views have skyrocketed in the last few days as the subject becoming contentious within MAGA has received media attention. Valereee (talk) 14:15, 28 December 2024 (UTC)

Ray Palmer (Arrowverse)

I wanted to bring this article to GAN but basiclly every aspect of the article is a mess. Basically it needs someone to burn the plot summary to a crisp. Questions? four Olifanofmrtennant (she/her) 07:01, 29 December 2024 (UTC)

Sarpatta Parambarai

Not just c/e, it needs excessive repeat links removed and proofreading. Kailash29792 (talk) 07:36, 8 January 2025 (UTC)

Lucid (Aṣa album)

I'd appreciate a copy edit to the article linked above. It was recently reviewed against the GA criteria. Unfortunately, the reviewer did a lackluster review of the article and closed it without giving me the chance to addressed "the issues" he supposedly found. I plan on renominating the article once the copyedit is complete (GAN). Thanks in advance.  Versace1608  18:29, 8 January 2025 (UTC)

12th Congress of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia

Planning to nominate it to WP:GA (GAN) and later WP:FA (FAC). British English. Radical rewrite if you feel it is necessary. Thanks! --TheUzbek (talk) 12:40, 10 January 2025 (UTC)

Council of Tripoli

The article is about a large assembly of the leaders of the crusader states to deal with their conflicts. To be more concise, the article needs a thorough and comprehensive copyedit before its GAN. Thank you for your time. Borsoka (talk) 06:44, 11 January 2025 (UTC)

Arithmetic billiards

Bit of an odd one for me, I admit. It's a reasonably basic maths article. I've done what I can to make it more encyclopedic, it could do bit better flow though. Planning to take to GAN. Lee Vilenski 22:27, 11 January 2025 (UTC)

Sheetz–Wawa rivalry

A short, 500 word article that a copy editor might enjoy tackling. After getting help at Misplaced Pages:Graphics Lab/Map workshop/Archive/Nov 2024 § Map of Sheetz and Wawa store locations in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania to add a map to the article, I'd like a second pair of eyes to make the prose flow a little better, if possible. Princess Mononoke
