Tim Peterson

Actually, you're wrong about Peterson. Peterson joined the PC caucus officially as of June 6, 2007, as soon as he won the nomination. It's on his bio on the Legislative Assembly website. Yes, the Assembly had prorogued by then, but it hadn't been officially dissolved yet. Therefore, he was a member of PC caucus -- he even attended caucus meetings. The Invisible Man 03:36, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Are you sure about this?

This change inserted a redlink. Are you planning to write the article? I would've reverted you if it hadn't been for your contributions history. Philip Trueman 19:05, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Template: TBayRadio

If you're going to change it to "Radio stations in Thunder Bay District", then you'll have to add radio stations for Nipigon, Greenstone, Marathon, etc. There are probably too many of them. Grouping them by CD might work in Southern Ontario, but the north is too big for it to be efficient. vıdıoman (talkcontribs) 23:23, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Is it that necessary to have those other stations included? If you group them by community, that list is going to be about 30 items long. vıdıoman (talkcontribs) 23:38, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

How about a template for Thunder Bay District, without Thunder Bay, and a link to Thunder Bay's market template in the TB District template? vıdıoman (talkcontribs) 00:11, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Well then, I'll help you populate that list. :) vıdıoman (talkcontribs) 01:54, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Oharachristmas.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Oharachristmas.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Misplaced Pages:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:29, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Electoral district infobox

Hey Bearcat. I decided to create a new infobox that handles all federal and provincial electoral districts, and am now looking for some feedback. My test template is temporarily named Canada electoral district, and a test page using it is here. Mindmatrix 19:23, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Glad you like it. It's my intention that this new infobox will replace all current electoral district infoboxes; it can handle districts that are just federal, just provincial, or both. (The key to it is the fed-status and prov-status fields, which determine whether to display federal or provincial sections. It currently assumes most of the other fields exist, but I'll work on that next.)
Yes, I had planned on adding a "riding dissolved" type field. I assume listing the year is sufficient, and the text can provide greater precision. Good point about not displaying the MLA info for defunct ridings - I hadn't thought of that at all. I'll add it in. If you have any other feature suggestions, can you list them on template talk page so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle. Thanks. Mindmatrix 02:26, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
I've added documentation. It's transcluded onto the template page. Do you think I've made the usage info clear? Mindmatrix 19:27, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Lorne Calvert/Brad Wall

Hey, I'm a member of the NDP just like you and I was vastly upset that Saskatchewan would elect a fascist party like the Saskatchewan Party into power. The reason I changed it is yes, Lorne Calvert will remain premier to 2-3 weeks but that still means that he will become Leader of Opposition in 2007, it pained me to edit it and I did cry a little. I'm in Manitoba so now we have the only remaining NDP government but that's until we win the next federal election User_talk:Whoneedspants 14:44pm, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I knew it wasn't politically motivated, I was just surprised to find that you were a member of the NDP, but I usually end up jumping the gun on editing election pages. I figure it's better for the Saskatchewan NDP to lose this election and then come time for the next election the people of Saskatchewan will be begging for the NDP to come back, and the NDP will be stronger and run a better campaign. User_talk:Whoneedspants 16:05pm, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Brad Wall & Templates

I agree with your reasoning. PS- I wonder if you could fix Wall's entry at the 'Saskatchewan Premiers' template, change it from (premier-elect) to just (designate). GoodDay 21:29, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

PS- I watched the Saskatchewan Election coverage on CTV, and felt like screaming everytime the 'newsperson' described Calvert as the former Premier. GoodDay 21:58, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

LGBT WikiProject Newsletter

The LGBT studies WikiProject Newsletter
The LGBT studies WikiProject Newsletter!
Issue XI - November 1, 2007

Hey, Peeps, it's that time of the month again (no not that time — get your mind out of the gutter): time for another monthly edition of the LGBT Project's Love Boat newsletter from your cruise director Miss Julie. So much has been happening this month and I just can't wait to tell you all about it!!!

Alice and her harasser

Let's start with some good news: Alice and the project lost the bothersome sock puppet who had been disrupting many articles we monitor, and now most of us can edit in relative peace. Congratulations, Alice, for being able to come out of semi-retirement. Benjiboi, on the other hand, has gained an anonymous IP stalker who seems to be more Catholic than the Pope and who has a hard-on for the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. We seem to have a sort of Yin and Yang thing going on here, which helps both to keep us in balance and on our toes <bright smiles all around>.

Harry Potter and his homosexual teacher

Albus Dumbledore got outed this month, and was immediately adopted by our project. The international brouhaha surrounding this disclosure reached all the way to Wikiland, and his article was briefly locked due to homophobic vandalism (as well as well meaning editors who just couldn't believe that that nice man could possibly be gay). This is a wonderful article to add to your watchlist, and will surely give you hours of reverting fun on cold winter days.

"My Fellow Americans"

On a more serious note, Fireplace has suggested a new article series about LGBT rights in the United States, state by state. This ambitious topic will surely require many editors and a lot of research, but has the potential to add further prestige to our already prestigious project.

Same name, same sexuality: a riddle for the ages

Francis Bacon (not the new gay one, but the old gay one ... though they're actually both dead, now that I think about it) has also aroused passions here on Misplaced Pages, with editors opposing his sexuality being disclosed in his biography. The always helpful Haiduc has thoughtfully provided any number of sources, but it is slow going getting his point across. Anyone want to lend a hand?

Beat writer arouses Irish guy

And speaking of passions, Jack Kerouac has inflamed the senses once again with editors, including administrator Irishguy, mounting a spirited defense to keep him as heterosexual as possible for Misplaced Pages purposes. Why? I don't know. Perhaps some of you can drop by the talk page and ask your questions there. I feel certain a stimulating debate will ensue that will be enjoyed by all.

Love those Texas Longhorns

Did you know that one of our Featured articles, Lawrence v. Texas, lost its shiny gold star? That was a shocker. It has been suggested that we turn our attention to it in an effort to restore it to its former glory. I took a peek, and it does need our help badly. For our American editors, it would seem almost a civic duty to edit it (not that I'm hinting....).

Point and Counterpoint

Though it was far too intellectual a debate for a mere cruise director like myself to take part in, Intersexuality was certainly a hot topic a week or two ago. The thrust of the debate was over inclusion in our project. Lots of good editors had lots of good opinions. For those too lazy to check out the discussion, we decided to leave it out for now.

Drudgery on offer

Peer review is, as always, short staffed and seemingly unloved. Wouldn't you feel better about yourself and the world in general if you took a few minutes to read one of the listed articles and offer some helpful advice? I know I'd feel better if you did.

"My Fellow Americans" redux

The article LGBT movements in the United States certainly raised eyebrows last week, especially when it was discovered that copyrighted content had been added to our article. Tragedy was averted at the last minute, though, when the original hosts of the article where the material had been pilfered agreed to make it free to everyone. Our thanks to them, whoever they are. Busy Bee that I am, I haven't had time to read it, but I'm sure it's sensational.

This month's Wiki stars

Lesbian pulp fiction (a genre close to my heart, I must confess) writer Ann Bannon has decided to spice up the featured articles candidates list this month. Why not drop by and make your opinion heard? Joining her in this lofty aspiration are the articles But I'm a Cheerleader and Conversion therapy. I'm sure their main editors would welcome any comments (well, helpful ones, anyway) on the talk pages or the FAC discussions. And lest we forget, the List of gay, lesbian or bisexual people: Sd-Si became a Featured list!! Rah rah, siskumbah! Go, team, GO!!!!

And the Oscar goes to...

Not content to run for Best Actress, plucky Bannon won a Best supporting actress Oscar... whoops, I meant to say Ann is also getting more than her share of womanly attention on the Good Article list. Joining her on this exalted plane are Freddy Mercury, Waylon Smithers and Lance Bass. Good articles indeed, and the last one mentioned just goes to show that one needn't admire the subject of an article to appreciate the effort put into making him worthwhile reading. What on earth Britney ever saw in him I'll never know. Truly a riddle cloaked in an enigma and wrapped around a puzzle.

Fresh faces to brighten our pages

Though I may not be the first, let me extend a warm, LGBT Love Boat welcome to the 12 new members who joined us in October: Jliberty, JockCub360, ChristopherEdwards, Desiderius82, Zlrussell, Kelsied, BeardedWoof, Mujerado, Tyrfing, Fabgurrl, Redl@nds597198, and decafdyke! Whatever you choose to do here, I feel sure that your contributions will enhance our project to no end. And if they don't...well, let's just say that I'm not shy.

Leather and lace

On a personal note, your already overworked cruise director is being cyberly whipped almost daily by Nemissimo, who desperately wants to get the German BDSM translation copy edited and used as a replacement for the current one. It's such a ... err, stimulating topic that I am sure many of you will want to join the copy editing fun. Jump right in, folks! It's so lonely copy editing it all by my lonesome!

Late breaking news

A little birdie just whispered in my ear that our noble collaboration project was delisted from the Community Portal due to inactivity. When asked how this scandalous turn of events could have occurred, the answer I received was "we suck at stuff like that". Well. In the first place, I disagree that sucking should be considered a negative, but to each his or her own. In the second place, I have full confidence that we can and will collaborate with other projects in the future. So let's not view this as a setback (even though it is), but rather a challenge to improve (and good Lord, I sound almost Wikipedian!).

Champagne dreams and caviar kisses

Lastly, the holidays are rapidly approaching. Our American cousins are currently getting ready to slaughter masses of poultry in an effort to show their gratitude and generally peaceful demeanor, and those of the Canadian persuasion, trendsetters that they are, celebrated a bit early this year. I'm sure all us foreigners will join together in wishing them all a very happy Thanksgiving on their respective holidays, both already celebrated and forthcoming... though I would hope somebody would enlighten me as to why they don't celebrate it on the same day. I was awake all last night trying to figure that one out.

In the spirit of this peculiarly North American holiday, let me take a moment to thank all of our editors for their contributions to this project. It's people like you who make people like me...well, a "people person"! May all your Wiki days be bright, and may your Love Boat never turn into a Poseidon.

Kisses,

Miss Julie

Radio templates by district - question

(link) I've made radio templates for Kenora and Rainy River districts, but Kenora has 39 communities, and navboxes can only handle 20 lists at a time (If you use the below field instead of a list to display information on the bottom); What should I do? Abandon this, remove communities with only repeaters, or make a separate First Nations or Kenora (Patricia Portion) lists? vıdıoman (talkcontribs) 18:06, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

There are too many first nations communities, I can't fit them all on one template, let alone combine the communities in Cochrane district. I might be able to fit them by ordering the communities by the NAN group they're in, and have the communities listed in a similar fashion as to how the GTA template is planned out, or do that with the 10 districts and list FN communities like the GTA template (though that will probably look awkward). vıdıoman (talkcontribs) 20:22, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Bobby Morrissey

Hello Bearcat. Just letting you know, I corrected the province at the Morrissey article; Bobby was a PEI MLA. GoodDay 17:01, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

No problem. Also, Morrissey was MLA representing '1st Prince' 1982 to 1996. That info will come with the gradual expansion of the article. GoodDay 17:09, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Agree, those former provincial districts do need articles. All the more so as they were 'dual membership' districts (each district had an Assemblyperson (MLA) and a Councillor) - Those 16 districts produced 32 legislative members. GoodDay 19:13, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Earl Andrew might be of some help. Though I have some knowledge of PEI political histoy, I'm a little rusty when it comes to providing 'sources/citations'. GoodDay 19:27, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
I've a major source, the website ElectionsPEI has a historical section. The old dual districts are mentioned there. GoodDay 19:44, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Templates

Hello, Bearcat. Help!

Because I didn’t first read Misplaced Pages’s policies (and because an equally foolish acquaintance told me it would be all right) I have done a stupid thing. I noticed that Misplaced Pages had several references to my writing, but no reference to me, as the author, so I went ahead and posted a couple of (neutral, I hope) lines of autobiography. This brief but ill-considered article has been somewhat wikified by other editors, but needless to say I have also been given the dreaded Conflict of Interest warning. Is there anything to be done? Is there any way the COI warning can be removed? Or am I forever doomed? Hanging my head in shame -- Eileen Kernaghan

Bearcat -- thank you! -- Eileen

Templates

With respect to your crusade against excessive templates, you, my dear sir, rock. Ground Zero | t 17:16, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

  • Well, we each have our own work here. I quietly work away disambiguating links, fixing heading capitalisation, etc. I'd love help, too, but I don't bother waiting for it. Regards, Ground Zero | t 18:47, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

With regard to the Canadian federal elections articles, these now have two templates at the bottom, thanks to your good work: the "federal elections" template and the "Federal Parliaments in Canada" template. In my view, the second is not appropriate because the article relates really only to the parliament formed as a result of the election, and not to any previous or subsequent parliaments. What think you? If you agree, I will suggest this on the Canadian Wikipedians' page, ask for your support, and if there is no objection, I will undertake the removal. Regards, Ground Zero | t 00:03, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

I have now cleaned up the Canadian federal election, 1867 and subsequent election articles. It turns out that the Canadian parliaments template was embedded into the Canadian elections template. When I removed it, the 1st Canadian Parliament and subsequent articles now had only a table of elections, and not a table of parliaments, so I have fixed those articles, too. I may have been hasty about this, or bold, depending on one's perspective, so I would appreciate you keeping an eye on these articles. Thanks. Ground Zero | t 13:52, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Victor Fedeli

A tag has been placed on Victor Fedeli, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. h i s r e s e a r c h 04:24, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the recent clean up. The entry looks much better!--Jeff Johnston 00:01, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Possible edit war beginning

Hi Bearcat. At the Teiaiagon article, we have a possible edit war beginning. Loganelm2001 have done an edit since you were there that was POV; in the process of verification, I edited good share of the contribution. However, since then the user has done additional edits. I have not yet checked if I can verify, but the user seems quite anti-Mississauga in tone. Since you're physically there where you may have resources, would you keep tabs on the article and ensure that user maintains the NPOV and verifiability, while curbing any possible edit wars? Thanks. -- CJLippert (talk) 20:07, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Social democracy

Well, at least our vandal isn't trying to besmirch your good name by calling you a social democrat. Oh wait... never mind. Ground Zero | t 20:19, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

CFML

Hey... a faviour to ask. Could you please look in at CFML-FM? The article was moved to VF2448 as an editor claimed the call sign was changed to that designation. I checked out the ref. the user provided, and moved the article back as I'm 99% certain it is still CFML. However, I'd appreciate a second opinion. Thanks. --Ckatzspy 02:05, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Radio templates

Anyway -- I've created Template:Rainy River Radio and Template:Kenora Radio, you can give them the once over. I'm still waiting on a reply about the First Nations radio stations. See: User talk:Bearcat#Radio templates by district - question for an explanation. Thanks. vıdıoman (talkcontribs) 23:25, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Grouping by station is something I thought of before but it doesn't really fit the norm. I guess there isn't much of an option, though. I rearranged the order of Kenora and Thunder Bay to put the main cities on top. Rainy River doesn't have many cities so I just left it. vıdıoman (talkcontribs) 23:48, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
How does this look? vıdıoman (talkcontribs) 01:42, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Another method I thought of was similar to Template:Global warming; All CIDE rebroadcasters are at 91.9, All CKWT rebroadcasters are either 89.9 or 90.1 with one exception, so we could use the format where there is a sub section to divide those and just list the cities and their call signs, that might be less confusing. What do you think? vıdıoman (talkcontribs) 01:49, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I can think of a few other templates where that kind of arrangement might be a good idea, actually :-)
Let me know which ones and I can help you out when I finish with this. vıdıoman (talkcontribs) 01:59, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
19 November
I created the article Hudson, Kenora District, Ontario, it's a community west of Sioux Lookout, and most references on Wiki were referring to that community, not the township in Tim.
Since we're using a new layout for the First Nations articles, I'll make it "Radio stations in First Nations communities in Northwestern Ontario" instead. Northeastern Ontario has less First Nations and I don't think it has broad FN radio networks like the NW, so NE FNs should be ok to go into district templates.
I removed First Nations from the Kenora, Rainy River, and Thunder Bay radio templates. Rainy River's template is down to just two lists, which makes it second smallest after Tim, but Tim has an odd layout. Should I leave it as it is or style it like Tim Radio? I was thinking of merging it with Kenora but Kenora is too big and that doesn't really fit in with the system we've got.

Weakerthans

Hi Bearcat. Regarding your revert here, though I agree that Exclaim! is usually an acceptable source, in this case the link I removed is to a video that is not really informative at all and adds nothing to the article. It was added by an anonymous user whose contributions seem aimed solely at promoting the Exclaim!TV website. Cheers Strobilus (talk) 18:53, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Chatham-Kent

Hello. I know you're busy, but appreciate any input you may have on this article. There has been a bit of back & forth on certain sections, plus some user page vandalism (mine) and a short-term ban on an IP editor. Appreciate a fourth pair of eyes to comment - site history here, other stuff here and here. Thanks. Blotto adrift (talk) 19:07, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

You've been loved by Redyva

Hey there! Redyva' has loved you by placing a heart icon in the top-right corner of your userpage. Don't worry, it's not vandalism, but simply a small way to spread the WikiLove. If you don't really like it, feel free to revert it and make it go away, and no hard feelings; after all, it's just a small token of appreciation. If you like it, just add your name here, but again, there's no need to feel upset if you don't. ('P.S.:I thought indie rock was a gay invention.)

List of Radio Stations

Hi Bearcat, it looks like that you've been busy lately. I still from time to time update some of the listing of radio stations across the country and the other day, I had deleted CKSO-FM at 101.1 in Greater Sudbury from the List of radio stations in Ontario, since that station has been defunct for more than a year now. I have added a few new stations to the list and here are the following:

  • FM 107.9 CHUC, classic hits Coburg, Ontario (This station is currently listed in the list of radio stations in Ontario, however, their old AM 1450 signal went off the air for good on November 7th, 2007).

I believe that's pretty much it for now. Take care and all the best! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.96.127.101 (talk) 21:45, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:5440-fightforlove.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:5440-fightforlove.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Misplaced Pages:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Misplaced Pages:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:03, 23 November 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK (talk) 11:03, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:SUNCD116.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Using one of the templates at Misplaced Pages:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

List of radio stations in Ontario

Hi Bearcat, I had noticed that you are re-doing the List of radio stations in Ontario in a different format and I noticed that the rest of the list is like before. I actually like the old format better, but that's okay!:-) Are you going to reformat the entire list? Take care and have a great day! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.96.127.101 (talk) 10:15, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Merges into Walden, Ontario

Just a question about a few recent edits you've made... was there an AfD on the communities and ghost towns that were merged into the Walden, Ontario article, or was merging them just a matter of individual preference? --Scani (talk) 20:37, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Seems fair enough. Under the same rationale, articles for neighbourhoods in the city proper such as Lo-Ellen, Donovan, etc. have little to no expansion potential beyond one- to two-line stubs. I'm thinking of doing something similar with them; they can be spun back off into their own articles if it becomes appropriate to do so. --Scani (talk) 21:59, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
That's pretty much exactly what I had in mind. ;) Said content can and should be merged into the "List of communities in Greater Sudbury" article, which already links from the Greater Sudbury article proper. --Scani (talk) 00:16, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
This is a tough call. Considering the current organization of the Neighbourhoods category template of breaking it down into the pre-existing communities prior to amalgamation, I would say either leave it as is (considering Wanup is pretty much a one-off) or, if consistency is more desired, move it into a "formerly unincorporated townships" (annexed into Greater Sudbury in 2001) article. --Scani (talk) 00:51, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Night Walk and Night Drive

these got split off into different articles, neither of which really justifies it (and Night Drive doesn't exist, anyway, it was 'Night Ride'), but I am having an obsessive thing about the show right now, and was thinking of remerging them and really polishing them up, adding screen shots, the work. Want to help me with the insanity? --Thespian 01:43, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

CFML

I first found this CFML call sign change on local radio discussion. forum I did a search on Google for VF2448 which brought up 3 references that stated a radio station from Burnaby is broadcasting at 107.9 with VF2448 as it's call sign. A quick search on Industry Canada reveals both CFML and VF2448 are used and owned by BCIT. CFML reveals its frequency is on 0.94 MHz, which doesn't make sense as CFML is a FM radio station and that frequency is used for international broadcasts. A search of VF2448 brings up a frequency of 107.9 MHz. I think the best way is to contact that radio station to see what it's real call signs are. --~Pikachu9000 07:15, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Category:Heterosexual writers

Hi, I seem to recall you speedily deleting this very category (or something similar) a while back. Or am I mistaken? Anyway, if so, thought you might be interested to know that it's back. Regards, Shawn in Montreal 02:22, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Regarding the election infoboxes

Bearcat, Here are the reason why I object to the usage of Template:Infobox Election and would prefer something alsong the lines of Template:Infobox ontario election or Template:Infobox canadian election:

  1. Template:Infobox Election fits at least half the width of the page on a 15.4 screen and is probably a lot more on a lower resolution or smaller screen.
  2. Template:Infobox Election is POV in the sense that it only lists the major parties before, on and after the election
    1. Therefore I am stating that Template:Infobox ontario election and Template:Infobox canadian election are much more NPOV as they state the basic facts of the elections, such as election date, when the writ was dropped, the number of campaign days, the number of seats contested, the imcumbent and their status (majority/minority), the result, and the registered parties in alphabetical order as to avoid singling out the "major" parties or singling out the "minor" parties; this way it avoids determining who is favoured to win as an election is often full of surprises and Misplaced Pages is not here to determine the results.

Those are my point so far, there are probably more I can list.  Avec nat...Wikipédia Prends Des Forces.  10:50, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

To be honest, it has nothing to do with ownership nor does my reaction have anything to do with the fact that I created the two alternative infoboxes. My point is that the infobox is way too cumbersome. A good infobox should be only between 20.5em and 22.5 em, without any horizontal growth or expansion, anything larger than 22.5em will not accommodate, nor will it cater to all the viewer or contributors, and it just seems that the infobox is overtaking the screen and the text which its not suppose to. Infobox are suppose to accompany the text as Harmony accompanies melody, and as such the infobox should not overtake the text just as the Harmony should never overtake the melody.  Avec nat...Wikipédia Prends Des Forces.  22:11, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

The LGBT studies WikiProject Newsletter!
Issue XII - December 1, 2007

Here comes Santa Claus, Here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus lane! Ho, ho ho (but not that kind of ho!) and Merry Christmas, everybody! Yes, that's right. It's time for the Christmas edition of the LGBT Love Boat newsletter. This homo Love Boat is cruising into Christmas and counting down the days to a brand new year! It doesn't matter if you're Christian or belong to some other, more obscure sect. Jesus loves you one and all, so let's curl up around the fire, sing some carols, drink some egg nog, and have a gay old time. But before we do, perhaps your chipper cruise director Miss Julie should spread the gender bendin' news from everyone's favorite project....

Table of Contents

Quelle Suprise! King James is a Queen!
Our dear Haiduc, never a stranger to controversy, recently decided to delve into the wardrobe of the British Monarchy, and what did he discover? King James had more than appreciative eyes for strapping young men! Naturally, Haiduc felt the need to share this news with the community, but instead of being praised for his scholarship, he was reviled. In fact, one rabid heterocentrist even rummaged around in his own wardrobe until he found an old pair of socks to play with. All seemed lost until astute editor Jeffpw noticed some odd postings and did some sleuthing of his own. The socks were uncovered, the Wicked Witch was melted and readers the world over were able to learn that Good King James regularly ordered tube steak from the menu of the day. Thank you, Haiduc! Thank you, Jeff! And let Miss Julie add (for readers who might not know) that tube steak tastes just like chicken!

It's Britney, Bitch!
Well, maybe it's not Miss Thang, herself, but it's the next best thing: Chris Crocker! he stirs up just about as much controversy as his idol does, even here on Misplaced Pages. Though it's all a bit of a muddle, one of our editors hopes you can drop by the talk page and leave a message of hope for those battling the forces of obstructionism in that little corner of the Wiki World. It is so hard to spread enlightenment. As Miss Parker herself said, "You can lead a whore to culture, but you can't make her think".

Game show for nerds
Wallowing in cash from the latest beg-a-thon, the powers-that-be have decided to sponser a little contest here to improve the articles, with a Grand prize of $100. Yeah. Just enough for a Burger King dinner for the family. Still, the thought is nice and the goal is noble, so we should support it. Our little Queer beehive has taken a look at what's on offer, and both the Greek Traditionalists and Daughters of Bilitis are well represented. The ever useful SatyrTN has made a little list, which can be found here (if that malignant bot hasn't archived it already, that is). So find a pal, roll up your sleeves and dive right in. Let's show this Encyclopedia just what Queers with firecrackers up their....err, I mean, let's show the others what we can do.

Jón Þór Birgisson
I can't pronounce his name, but he's awfully cute, he's deliciously foreign, and best of all...he's GAY! But he won't be for long, if certain users have their way. A concerted effort has been under way for a while now, designed to neuter poor Jon (pretend I put a little accent thingy over that O) and make him into a sort of rockin' Ken doll. So please watchlist this hunka man, and keep him queer! If anybody questions you, tell them "Miss Julie sent me".

Everybody loves a sequel
Readers not afflicted with Alzheimer's will remember that last month we had a little story about Alice and her harasser. That proved so popular that we bring you the sequel: Benjiboi and his stalker. After a chance meeting at the Michael Lucas article, this anonymous user took a shine to our Benjiboi, and has been showering him with attention on virtually every board on Misplaced Pages. Flattered though he is, Benjiboi finds the attention a bit distracting, and administrators have been seeking various remedies for this. It has proven difficult, as the stalker has an IP address that changes quicker than Superman in a telephone booth. So perhaps some of you would like to watchlist Benjiboi's page, and lend a hand if you see some love letters from an 11 digit friend. I was actually thinking we should get Alice's harasser and Benjiboi's stalker together. Then we could have another sequel, sort of like Freddy vs. Jason. Any bets as to who would win??

Not quite the second coming, but special just the same
Let me be the first to give a warm, wet, Love Boat kiss (though not with tongue) to our newest Project members: Jacksinterweb, Cleduc, Pigman, Becksguy and Iamandrewrice. Even in the month of our Saviour's birth, your popping into our Wikipedian lives is a blessed event indeed. As Jesus Himself said, "Live long and prosper". He did say that, didn't he? I think he said it. In any event, if he was standing next to me now, I'm sure he'd say it, and add, "Happy homo editing!"

Battle of the Misplaced Pages Stars!
Indomitable Ann Bannon is holding her own in Misplaced Pages's answer to American Idol: The Featured Article candidate list! For four feverish weeks, she has mastered the challenges and not been eliminated from the competition. Drop by the FAC page and show Ann you love her....or give her the hook (I'm not supposed to tell you how to vote). Giving our plucky Ann reason to hope is the recent promotion of List of gay, lesbian or bisexual people: Sa-Sc. If Miss Julie has her way, we will have the entire alphabet of Queerdom Featured here on Misplaced Pages soon! And I would be remiss if I did not give a warm, Lesbian salute to our own Belovedfreak, who showed Misplaced Pages with But I'm a Cheerleader that even pom poms are no protection from the Love that dare not speak its name, and got a gold star for her efforts.

Climbing the Misplaced Pages career ladder is User: Tim1965, who has not only written, but is now promoting Reel Affirmations to Good article status. Best of luck, Tim, and remember: there are no small parts, only small actors. We're sure you'll be trading that green circle for a gold star soon (assuming you get the green in the first place!).

Santa's on his gay way!

Santa needs elves
Yes, I know: packages need buying, trees need trimming, egg nog needs drinking. The holidays make many demands on our time. It's ...well, it's a bitch, is what it is. So I wouldn't blame you for skipping this little section and putting off my request until next year. But...think of the children. Our future. They need quality information about the homosexual "lifestyle" if we are to indoctrinate them properly. That's why I am asking you to drop by our Peer review area and give your meaning as to the efforts of your fellow gay Wikipedians. And think: in this season of kindness and good will to all, isn't it nice that I am pointing you to someplace where you can (in a Wikiloving way, of course) rip someone a new asshole? Think about it...and those children with their shiny, bright eyes, thanking you for contributing to their future.

Even more festively, consider joining in on the deletion discussions of our favorite articles. Here you can bandy about such words as "homophobia", "Right-wing Christian agenda" and my personal favorite, "just who do you think you're pushing around?!?!?". If you play your cards right, there might even be an extra present under the tree for you. :-D

Urgent Christmas appeal
Tovojolo asked me to ask you to edit Elizabeth Bishop as part of the Collaboration Project. She's an old dead poet (Miss Bishop, not Tovojolo. I've never actually met Tovojolo. She's probably very young and attractive. Maybe somebody should ask if she's single), but she was a flaming homosexual long before most of us had even been conceived, so we owe her some respect. Tovojolo actually asked me for the last newsletter, but Miss Julie forgot. Bad Miss Julie. She was so busy boosting morale it just slipped right by her. Nemissimo, maybe you need to crack that whip again to get Julie back in line.

Surrender, Dorothy!!!!!!!
Friend of Dorothy has attracted the attention of a group of....the more senior elements of our gay society. They disagree with our thesis that Saint Judy was the possible source of the term, and demand we change the article to reflect their contention that Dorothy Parker was the origin. The problem is, their source didn't check out. So we agreed to disagree. Well, we at the project did. They got kinda mad at us, said unkind things, and started edit warring. Though they are old, they are certainly quick, and could revert the article faster than my nimble fingers could press the undo button. To quote the divine Miss Parker, every time I saw the article on my watchlist, I thought to myself, "What fresh hell is this?". The page was protected by sympathetic administrators, but keeping an eye on it will keep Dorothy safe from future Wicked Witches of the West or East.

Ambrosia
Our dear Benjiboi has been busy indeed, lately. He recently made fruit salad out of Fruit, turning a once nasty word into a damn good article, and saving it from deletion! Congratulations, Benjiboi! I hear he has turned his attention from fruit to poultry now. Before he is through, he will have turned every major food group gay on Misplaced Pages!

Christmas came early
Yes, indeed! Valued administrator WJBscribe was raised out of the mire of mid-level management and placed squarely into the Pantheon of Bureaucracy! And Miss Julie is just too proud of him not to mention that he got the most support votes in the history of Misplaced Pages! Congratulations, WJB! We know you will not prove the Peter Principle correct!

You!
Yes, you! It's you who make this project shine! It's you who make Misplaced Pages such a valuable resource for all humanity! And it's you who make Miss Julie's dull life just a little bit better. So I want to take this moment to thank each and every one of you for all you do here. Merry Christmas, everybody! Happy Hanukkah! Festive Kwanzaa! Delirious Dong Zhi! Delicious Diwali! And for our oppressed Iranian brothers and sisters, I wish you a safe and joyous Yalda. And if I didn't mention your favorite December holiday, well, it's because I feel it's so special I should just keep it between you and me. Always remember: You light up my life!

May we all have a joyous holiday season, and a safe, healthy, happy and prosperous 2008.

With love from Miss Julie

905 music scene

Hi. The "905" is often cited in the media as a political "scene" and I think there are other connections because of its proximity but distinction from Toronto so I wouldn't doubt there's something to a music scene as well but, as you rightly point out, with out references, it's all OR conjecture. LGBT organizations in Mississippi

Hi, Bearcat! I've removed Category:LGBT organizations in Mississippi from two articles and made sure they were in categories above that one. Orgs in MI is way too specific when orgs in the US is not very large. Hope that's okay? -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 16:19, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Is it just me, or is this the scariest picture you have ever seen of a politician? I mean, it is a very unflattering picture—it almost makes Stephen Harper look human. Any chance of getting a better one? vıdıoman (talkcontribs) 21:40, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again - I understand more about civil servants - as she is fairly new - she hasn't done anything stupendous as of yet that I can find, besides that which is listed - so I think - even though she impressed User talk:Ojoemmanuel enormously, and it was interesting for me to read about her... her article will probably disappear then. Historical townships / municipalities

Hi. Further to our discussion about the former munis of Greater Sudbury, I noticed that you've redirected some other former municipal articles. Specifically, Aldborough Township, Ontario now redirects to West Elgin, Ontario. I was wondering if it wouldn't make more sense to redirect them to the article on the county - I did this with Dover Township, Ontario - the difference in that case is that the Kent County is a historical county whereas Elgin County is still around. However, the townships were usually surveyed at the same time and the history of the county is generally wrapped up in the townships. Each county could have a section for "original townships" (and redirects for those townships leading to that page) as well as a list of current municipalities. The advantage I guess would be consistency - in a case like Dover, the info in the stub wouldn't make it to the Chatham-Kent page, so the County page seems to be a good place to put it. I was thinking of doing something similar with the townships in Ontario County, Ontario. Thoughts? Blotto adrift (talk) 18:00, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Stub sorting

I've just moved about 140 articles out of cat:"Broadcasting stubs" to a more relevant or more specific stub. Heck, I even found a couple of stray US radio stations in that pile (which is what I'd gone looking for in the first place) so it was worth the trip. As I have free time over the next few days I'll see how much more precisely I can file some of these articles. Oh, and thanks for the assist on the Puerto Rico radio station stub category. - Dravecky (talk) 02:49, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Radio stubs

For what it's worth, we're actually quite lacking in articles on radio stations in the Caribbean

Sad, another exaple of systemic bias perhaps. Still, we usually at least have regional stub templates once we start splitting these things up - and in the Americas that usually means separate templates for North, South, Central and Caribbean. Grutness...wha? 05:42, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

So what am I to do?

I left several comments on the Misplaced Pages:Main Page/Errors, which were supported by an FVasconcelos who is an admin. CBC Radio 3

Hi Bearcat! While looking for refs for 13 Engines, I noticed that the CBC Radio 3 bio is a copy including wikilinks, though I didn't see a backlink to[REDACTED] authorship. I noticed on your user page that there was a inside the cbc blog on your writing about the mother corp on[REDACTED] but I didn't see anything about your writing for the mother corp from wikipedia. Since it's almost entirely your authorship (I believe someone changed a were to a was along the way before it was copied to cbc), I'm kinda hoping you are getting pay from cbc to write their indie bios. I was tempted to put an external link on the article to radio3.cbc.ca/bands/13-Engines since it does have some singles on there but it's pretty weird to see the same prose on that page. What do you think about all this? DoubleBlue (Talk) 18:13, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm disappointed that you're not getting paid for your work. Perhaps you should approach them that you can continue to write for them for an increase in pay. :-)
I understand what you're saying about the GFDL, though, strictly, they should have credited[REDACTED] for authorship. What do you think about including the CBC 3 bio in the external links to our article? Is it too disconcerting to see the same text there or does the availability of another source and links to singles overpower that? Cheers! DoubleBlue (Talk) 20:19, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Can you please have a look at the article about Don Meredith (Canadian clergyman). There is a disagreement between User Reginald Perrin and User Kibomt about sourcing of some material that relates to the dismissal of Mark Warner (Canadian politician) and the sourcing of som of the biographical details relating to Don Meredith. A second opinion would be useful. The debate is summarized on the Talk page and in the edit history. Thanks. --Kibomt (talk) 01:34, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your input on the Warner issue. I respect your position, but disagree slightly. List of radio stations in Ontario

Bearcat, I haven't really done anymore work on the List of Radio Stations in Ontario and may not be, unless there's a new radio station, format change...anything is possible. The last radio station I did was CFNP-FM 90.1 from Naicatchewenin, Ontario and I don't know what the company name is for that station, so I left the field blank. You're right it is a tedious job and it's hard to say when it will be all complete. Do you plan on doing all of the Canadian Provinces in the same format you did to Ontario? So hard to believe it's already the very last day of the year 2007 and we are going on 2008 in less than 24 hours and yes another year gone by! I hope you had a great Christmas and I would like to wish you all the best in the New Year! Take care. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.167.226.200 (talk) 05:47, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

CKLM-FM

Lloydminster is a very weird and nearly unique situation — it's a city which has a provincial boundary running right through the middle of it. (And it's not two separate cities with the same name, either: it's a single city under biprovincial jurisdiction.) So I don't know how you could really make the determination that CKLM is located in Alberta, and only heard in Saskatchewan, considering that its city of license is located in both provinces simultaneously. YMMV, I guess. Bearcat (talk) 22:32, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

The CRTC uses Lloydminster, Alberta in its decisions concerning this station, and its ownership has always been based in Alberta. That's sufficient for me to make the call. Caerwine Caer’s whines 23:18, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

NPOV Concern

Hello. Sorry to disturb you, I'm a new contributor to Misplaced Pages here and noticed you seemed to be a relatively experienced Canadian user. I was wondering if you could take a look at these articles:

Poverty in Canada

Economic impact of immigration to Canada

These are both written by the user deetdeet, and have largely been left alone, but draw sharply from a right-wing viewpoint, primarily drawing upon and re-iterating studies by the Fraser and C.D. Howe Institute. They may also violate the NOR and NPOV policies. I have nothing personally against either right or left-wing points of view, but feel perhaps these articles would benefit from sets of eyes on the other side of the spectrum to achieve more balance. You may know some! Thank you.Mft1 (talk) 13:24, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

I disagree with your rationale for removing this. Don't undo good work just people people from other provinces haven't shown the same initiative. Kevlar67 (talk) 20:12, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

1. I don't get it. If these templates already exist for all provinces, why did you put all the effort into removing them from the Alberta MPs pages instead of adding them to the pages of MPs from other provinces?
2. It's not that I am unconcerned about other provinces, however, I only have so much time and effort to devote to WP and I draw the line at going through all 301 MPs and 199-odd Senators and adding a template to them. I did however add it to all Alberta MPs and Senators in the hope that this would spur other editors to follow suit for other regions. By taking the template off the Alberta pages you have undone that.
3. It has nothing to do with "ownership", I'm sorry if you read it that way. I just don't have the interest in expanding my workload to every single MP and Senator in Parliament. That being said, you are absolutely wrong to say it's my "responsibility" to do any work on here. It's a volunteer thing and I do only as much as I want and that's all. I hope that someone does work on Peter and Alexa, but do say it's my responsibility is presumptuous.
How about a compromise? If I inform the necessary provincial wikiprojects (and the Canadian politics project) that they should work on the other 9 provinces and 3 territories can I put the AB ones back up? Kevlar67 (talk) 16:01, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

WP:OUTCOMES

Thanks for your comments on the AfDs I've set up. My reading of WP:OUTCOMES has always been - and having re-read still is - that you need something extra, i.e. you must be the first woman, black, gay councillor elected or have had substantial national coverage because of your position. The only one I think there might be some doubt about is Margot James, and I don't think she was the first lesbian K&C councillor (and I've not found evidence one way or another). BlinkingBlimey (talk) 18:04, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Further to this I think WP:OUTCOMES needs some tidying and doesn't accurately reflect the precedents. I've started a discussion on the talk page and would appreciate your comments. Thanks BlinkingBlimey (talk) 11:15, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

{{Stub Category}}

The category parameter of {{tl|Stub Category} is supposed to be the corresponding permanent category, not another stub category. When there is not a corresponding permanent category, standard practice is to either make category be the parent category of what would be permanent category if it existed or to simply omit the category parameter altogether. I reverted your changes to the continental level radio station stub categories, but if you think simply omitting the category parameter would be preferable, I have no strong feelings there.Caerwine Caer’s whines 18:37, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio programs -> CBC Radio One programs_CBC_Radio_One_programs-2008-01-08T20:55:00.000Z">

Hello there:

I see you have gone and made changes to a number of Canadian radio show articles all at one go, doing category changes from "Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio programs" to "CBC Radio One programs". In many cases this is fine, but the blanket change you seem to have done simply doesn't apply to all programs—specifically, to those programs that were broadcast prior to the introduction of the CBC Radio One network in 1997. While this may apply to some of the shows you have re-categorized (like The Irrelevant Show or Mr. Interesting's Guide to the Continental United States), this clearly does not apply to shows whose run ended prior to 1997, like Johnny Chase: Secret Agent of Space (1978 to 1981) or The Happy Gang (1937 to 1959!)

I don't know if there are categories for "CBC Radio" and "CBC Stereo" for shows prior to 1997, but perhaps there should be. (Keep in mind also that some shows were broadcast on both networks, such as Gilmour's Albums for example).

Cheers! Captmondo (talk) 20:55, 8 January 2008 (UTC)_CBC_Radio_One_programs"> _CBC_Radio_One_programs">

Brentwood Bay, British Columbia

An edit summary would've saved some confusion when you removed the category "Communities within district municipalities..." from Brentwood Bay. Just a quick "category about to be deleted" would've saved a couple of unnecessary edits, as from the point of view of someone coming to the article (rather than the CfD) there was no apparent reason for the category to be removed from it. Dethme0w (talk) 22:59, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

{{Africa-road-stub}}

Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Misplaced Pages:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Misplaced Pages, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 00:41, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Cica.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Cica.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:33, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

West Ferris

Hi, West Ferris is a former municipality, and as far as I can tell, that makes it inherently notable and therefore deserves an article on Misplaced Pages. I have no problem redirecting short stubs to their parent municipalities, but this is ridiculous. -- Earl Andrew - talk 20:58, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

It does deserve a good article. I'm not sure why it doesn't. All of Ottawa's former townships have articles, and the smallest ones are about as big as West Ferris. -- Earl Andrew - talk 22:32, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure it was that bad of an article, but I can certainly add some more information on it. -- Earl Andrew - talk 22:36, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
  • I think small community articles should remain so that they can be expanded. Murillo, Ontario doesn't have an article anymore, and the information that was removed when you created the redirect is hidden in its history. I don't see you creating those one or two articles listing all of the communities, you're just turning an entire article into a redirect without any prior discussion. You could at least merge the main points in that article into the article it's being redirected to. West Ferris and Murillo were both more than "This hole in the wall sucks ass. I has a gas station and graffiti." vıdıoman (talkcontribs) 22:51, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

LGBT WikiProject Newsletter

The LGBT studies WikiProject Newsletter
The LGBT studies WikiProject Newsletter!
Issue XII - December 1, 2007

Ms Julie is .. unavailable .. this month, so Isaac and Gopher have stepped in to put this newsletter thing together. We may not be as funny as you're used to, but if you'd like a free drink, come see me at the bar. That might help. Maybe. And no, there aren't any flashing lights or fancy pictures this month - I'm still recovering from a whopping hangover. Julie's recovering too, but that's a story I'll let her tell.

Two New Featured Articles (and...)
  • Emma Goldman was promoted to Featured status on 2007 December 27. If you don't know Ms. Goldman, she was a Lithuanian anarchist. Aren't many of those around, really, so having one of our very own is special. She'll be dancing the Cha-Cha on the Promenade deck later tonight.
  • Ann Bannon was promoted to Featured status on 2007 December 3. Faithful readers may remember Moni moaning that we didn't mention this promotion in the last newsletter. Happy now?
  • Ludwig Wittgenstein seems to have been dropped from the vaunted roles - he was downgraded to "B class" on 29 December 2007. What a way to end the year!
  • Let's see - we started December with 35 FAs. We added two and dropped one. So somewhere there's a missing FA - has anyone seen one lying around?

Ze Portal

The marathon efforts of Dev920 against her astonishing abilities of procrastination continued this month, and she managed to update the Portal's main articles. Whether she will finally beat her procrastination pixies in submission and update the biographies remains to be seen, but Jeffpw has leapt to the rescue and taken it upon himself to do all our lovely news. Friends, lend us your goodwill and your eyeballs, and mosey on over to see all Jeff's hard work.

Also, back in October 2007, Allstarecho and Benjiboi worked diligently on the "WP:LGBT Random Quote" and "WP:LGBT Random Picture" sections of the portal. They added many new quotes and pictures but, and yes here's the cat's meow friends... you can now use these on your own user pages! To add the "WP:LGBT Random Quote" to your own userpage, use: {{Portal:LGBT/Quotes}} And to add the "WP:LGBT Random Picture" to your own userpage, use: {{Portal:LGBT/Pics}} If you'd like to see it in action, check out Allstarecho's userpage for both in action and Benjiboi's talk page for the Quotes in action!

The long, slow race toward FP status continues...

Bisexual Awareness Month

Folks in Utah are celebrating Bisexual Awareness Month. For our own wikicelebration, Alison suggests we try to bring Bisexuality at least up to good article status. Working on the Utah article would be encouraged, but do it stealthily - they don't like us to be *too* open.

A cunning plan

In a move sure to bring her fame and fortune at last, Dev920 (talk · contribs) has proposed that an FA buddying system be set up, to help nudge frightened tikes who also happen to write killer ass articles over that initial first FAC hurdle. Anyone interested in shepherding duties, or anyone interested in being made to lie beside still waters (handcuffs are optional), do drop Dev an RSVP so she can start battering those darned pixies...

Category:Settlements in Canada by province or territory

I'm not sure that it's the correct name for the category. A settlement in Canada has a defined meaning. For example Detah, Beaver Creek and Bathurst Inlet are all settlements but Cambridge Bay is not. I would have thought that Category:Communities in Canada by province or territory would be the more correct term. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 06:32, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

I see what you mean. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 06:39, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Why does it need the word "Indian". Both Cambridge Bay and Ulukhaktok were legally settlements before they became hamlets in 1984 but neither has an Indian population. Enterprise is a settlement in the NWT with a minority aboriginal population. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 06:50, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Whoops. It turns out I was replying to this but you had expanded it. Sorry. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 17:17, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

NL communities

Hi Bearcat; It's great to see others, such as myself, trying hard to organize the many varied communities in the province. I noticed the category Ghost Towns for some of the communities. Would it be possible to devise a set of categories that could better explain the status and circumstances of the many communities that exist and once existed in the province? These are only suggestions but it may shed some light on the reasons for the categories. Some communities were abandoned, others were resettled, and still others amalgamated with neighbouring much larger communities. Others were just summer fishing stations that were frequented in summer and dormant in winter. Then there are incorporated municipalities and un-incorporated municipalities. What do you think of suggestion to create categories to reflect some or all of those categories? --HJKeats (talk) 17:02, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I agree its much easier to start from an orderly listing. Not sure about Round Harbour, as with many bays around the coast a lot of them had similar place names, I hesitate to guess how many Salmon Cove's there are. Maybe you could ask the originator of the article Wayne Ray! I guess my biggest pet-peeve with the communities is the list, I'm going to take a copy offline and work out an acceptable listing. Do you know if you can have more than one alphabetical TOC on the same page? --HJKeats (talk) 20:38, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Parker's Notch

The name of the article appears to be original reasearch. On the other hand the article might be useful as part of the NWT or Nunavut history articles or under a different name. I think the original creator may have been scared off though after the deletion of Parker's notch as nonsense. Using Google Earth with the boarders on and going to 65°26'6.47"N 110°31'51.91"W gives a possible notch. Then I looked at the last line of the deleted article above and checked out Victoria Island (Canada) and found there are two possible claimants for the notch. I assume that John Havelock Parker is the person referred to in this case. The book is valid but is not availabe at Google books. I've left a message at User talk:YK Times#Parker's Notch to see if he knows anything and I'll stick a copy in my sandbox just in case, along with a note for the creator. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 23:04, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

I've never heard of this either, but it nonetheless seems to be fairly believable. I'll check around with some people and see if they've heard anything about it. -YK Times 00:10, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks folks. I agree it looks too believable to delete outright. I starting to get a little concerned about the amount of articles deleted as nonsense when they are not patent nonsense. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 00:31, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
That makes sense if it's the southern one of the three. The two on Victoria Island would have probably come out of the earlier Inuvialuit land claims anyway. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 00:42, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Wallaceburg Page

Thats cool I like it at the top of the page better. However, it makes the rest of the page seem uneven and leaves a large blank space? If you know how to fix that it would be helpful. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wallaceburghistory (talkcontribs) 20:46, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

I like the recent change. I agree it makes the sub-titles more organized. There is still a large blank space though because of the info box. I am not sure how to fix that. It occurs right after "Wallaceburg History" and the Baldoon Settlement

Also I will be adding references shortly. I just wanted to have something their for a community meeting later tonight.

I wanted to thank you for your feedback today and assistance with the content that I have added. I am new to Misplaced Pages and just getting the hang of it. I do have one issue. Someone deleted my content under QINIQ. I had the content in excellent shape and regretfully had reworked a lot of it without saving a back up. The person that removed it said something about me needing to getting permissions and warned of copyright bots. I find it incredible that after all this work and following the instructions and complying with everything you asked me to do that someone else would just go in and delete without any warning or opportunity to comply. Is this standard practice? I am a bit frustrated over my investment in time being tossed out with the click of a button.Charwalker (talk) 00:51, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Charwalker

American Musical Groups

Hi there. I notice you have been recategorising bands under Category:American musical groups. This is actually only meant to be a parent category, and should not be used to specifically categorise bands. I recently spent a huge amount of time emptying this category by finding more specific categories for the 5000+ articles listed there. So if you could use a more specific category than American musical groups, that would be great. Cheers Nouse4aname (talk) 09:00, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

So does that mean that you will be going back through to add more specifc categories? It seems this AWB is creating more work than it is removing! Nouse4aname (talk) 09:13, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Cool! I had started doing some manually (I like the old fashion way), but I guess I don't need to carry on now...Cheers Nouse4aname (talk) 09:15, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I put National Intercollegiate Band under "musical organizations", L'Altra under electronic and pop music groups (genres from MySpace site), and I created American Latin musical groups for Smokey & Miho, although I'm not really sure if this was the best move...I'll see if I can think of a better place, or maybe just populate that category with any relevant groups I come across. I have just taken the time to read your profile page, and realised from one of your Barnstars that you clearly knew what I told you in the first post above! Hope I didn't offend you! Fair use rationale for Image:Lilies-dvd.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Lilies-dvd.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Misplaced Pages articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Misplaced Pages:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
