Prospects was a 1986 Channel 4 British drama series created by Thames Television's film unit Euston Films - the makers of The Sweeney and Minder. The series was based around two East End 'geezer' characters - Jimmy 'Pincey' Pince played by Gary Olsen and Billy played by Brian Bovell and their exploits in making a living in and around the Isle of Dog's comedically dealing with unemployment, poverty, regeneration, social change and racism that were major factors in British society in the mid-1980's. There were 12 episodes of Prospects and these included:

The show achived a cult following and performed well above expectations for Channel 4 in the terms of ratings. Rival station ITV which in the 1980's had links to Channel 4 saw the success of Prospects and gave it a prime time repeat slot in the Spring/Summer of 1987. However despite seeing the potential for a long running comedy drama series ITV declined the opportunity to develop prospects beyond it's original first series although it enabled the late Gary Olsen and Brian Bovell to develop their acting abilities in British film, television and theatre. Unfortunately it is rumoured that Thames Television accidently wiped the master tapes for Prospects at some point in the late 1980's/early 1990's. This may explain why it has not been repeated on British television since 1987 and hasn't had an official Video or DVD release.
