On Friday the 22nd of April 2005 the AUT debated a set of motions calling for a Boycott of three Israeli Universities. The union agreed to boycott two of these universities. The boycotts which would prevent collaboration with Israeli academics and refusal to review papers from academics at these institutions was seen by many as highly discrimanatory and in direct opposition to the concept of academic freedom. The boycott was repealled at a Special Council (an emeregency conference) on May 26th 2005.
