It is in Gloucestershire in the South West of England. The origins of the name Horsley are much debated, though it is thought that it originates from "Horse in a field" after the large number of horses kept in fields on its rolling hillside. Horsley has one one C of E School, a community shop and until recently a pub (The Bell & Castle).
