Khasansky District (red) and Primorsky Krai

Khasansky District (Template:Lang-ru) is a district (raion) in the southwestern part of Primorsky Krai, Russia, which borders China and North Korea. The district is wedged between the Tumen River and the Gulf of Peter the Great. The administrative center is the urban-type settlement of Slavyanka. Population: 37,459 (2002 Census); 43,709 (1989 Census).

A significant part of the area is protected by the Russian Federation. The nature reserves include the Pine Valley (Kedrovaya Pad), established to protect the natural complexes of South Primorye, and the Far Eastern Marine Nature Preserve (1978), protecting the underwater world of the Gulf of Peter the Great, including more than 2,000 species of invertebrate animals (such as sea cucumber), approximately 300 fish species, and larga-seals.

There are deposits of precious metals and construction sand, and Gusevskoye Deposit of porcelain stone which is used by the Porcelain of Primorye Works in the district. Fishery and ship repair dominate the district's economy. Mariculture development, medical sanitary bases establishment and high class tourism development are considered prospective here. Agriculture is specialized in breeding of animals for furs.

There are several sea ports on the Posyet Bay, Posyet and Zarubino, with transport passages to China and North Korea. The settlement of Khasan near Lake Khasan has a border crossing between Russia and North Korea.
