Stairwell A was a stairway that was left intact after the second plane hit the South Tower of the World Trade Center during the September 11 attacks. It was believed to have remained intact from 9:03 am, when United 175 hit the tower, up until 9:59, when it collapsed. 14 people were able to escape the floor of the impact zone (including one man who allegedly saw the plane coming at him), and 4 people from the floors above the impact zone. Several people who were on Stairwell A at the time of the collapse were able to escape the towers after they collapsed.
