The MIC was established some years prior to 2000 for schools that sponsor women's gymnastics teams, but do not have women's gymnastics as a sponsored sport in their primary conferences.
Bids to NCAA Regional competitions in women's gymnastics are based off a team's "Regional Qualifying Score". Teams do not receive an automatic bid for winning a conference championship.
