- time domain, then we are talking about time domain terahertz spectroscopy (TDTS)
- frequency domain, and we are doing frequency domain terahertz spectroscopy (FDTS)
We us broadband THz sources for time domain measurements (by optical rectification, photoconductive switches,...). Measurements are usually slow, we have lower frequency resolution, but wide spectra. We us monochromatic (continuous wave) THz sources for frequency domain measurements (e.g. photomixing, frequency matching, some sources are tunable). Measurements are quick, we have high resolution in the frequency domain, but usually narrow spectra.
