Jekyll is a BBC television drama serial. The story draws parallels to Robert Louis Stevenson's novel The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, but is not based on the novel, and is updated to a modern setting with Jekyll using contemporary technology to try and keep Hyde dormant and protect his family from the darker side of his personality. Little is Jekyll aware that he is being monitored by a secret society and that he and Hyde are part of a terrifying centuries-old plot.
The six episode serial is being produced by the independent production company Hartswood Films, in association with Stagescreen Productions, for BBC One with some co-production funding from the BBC America cable television channel in the United States. It is written by Steven Moffat. The directors are Douglas Mackinnon and Matt Lipsey.
The serial stars James Nesbitt in the title role. Also featuring are Gina Bellman, Denis Lawson, Michelle Ryan, Meera Syal, and Mark Gatiss.
Gatiss will be appearing in the serial as Robert Louis Stevenson.
The series will be released on DVD on 30 July 2007.
