Area of Natural and Scientific Interest
Hey Bearcat, I noticed you've made a few changes regarding the categorization of Area of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSI) and some associated articles (specifically, this edit). I don't think the changes were correct - an ANSI is not necessarily a park, though it may be. In general, an ANSI is simply a piece of land or water which has "represetative features" the government deems need to be protected. This may be within, overlap, or be equal to other designated areas, such as parks, but they retain their own classification. Some provincial parks may contain more than one ANSI, while others have none. You can find a list of zone types at the MNR website. I've created Category:Natural areas in Ontario to deal with this. CHMB (AM)
Hello... a question. Do you have any resources that can confirm the license location for CHMB-AM? A new editor has been adding to the article; that's not a problem, but he/she has moved the station to "Vancouver" in the BC list. CHMB's parent has an office address in South Vancouver, but I can't find confirmation as to where it is actually licensed there or in New Westminster. Thoughts? --Ckatzspy 00:03, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Everything I Do-charts
Hi. Thanks for you comment on my discussionpage. I've actually added a source for the 39 weeks on top of the Canadian charts for (Everything I Do) I Do It for You several days ago. But the source doesn't specify if it is the RPM (magazine)-chart or the Singles Sales Chart. So if it only peaked #1 in 9 weeks at the RPM-charts, the 39 weeks must be from the Singles Sales chart. Category:Canadian experimental filmmakers
Hi Bearcat, as you are the Master of Categories I wanted to check with you. I've created a cat. for Can. experimental filmmakers, similar to what has been done for British, American, etc. As I note on the Talk Page, I would have thought this would be a sub-category of Canadian film directors but it's not how it was done for the other nationalities and so I didn't do so here for consistency's sake. Would you agree with this? Shawn in Montreal 21:02, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image (Image:Bigdaddy1039.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Bigdaddy1039.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 06:13, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

C.Mulroney
Hey Bearcat, I think that you began the original Caroline Mulroney article a few years ago. However, I have re-nominated it for deletion. To me, and a few others, her own notability is related to other people (father, brother, husband) in her life. A year ago, someone commented that *first children* are indeed notable. That may be the case in the USA, but it is hardly the case in Canada or other parliamentary democracies. This is the 2nd nomination for deletion for this article. It was also nominated a year ago. Just letting you know.DDD DDD 02:26, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Return of the Vaughan City Council sockpuppet
Hey Bearcat, I recall that you were involved with the commotion about the Vaughan Council candidates pages (in the end, the consensus was that most were not notable enough to merit their own pages, and that their names should redirect to either the election or the council page). I recall a user being blocked for sockpuppetry after said user used sockpuppets in deletion discussions as well as repeated recreating candidate pages that were changed to redirects per the consensus. Do you recall the name of that sockpuppet? I'd like to tag the freshly-blocked CommonSenseEdits (talk · contribs · count) with the appropriate sock tag. OhNoitsJamie 17:03, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Categories for Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence
Hi, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence article gets a lot of vandalism so I apologize for readily reversing your deletion of categories. I have changed Activism to Activists, Sprituality to Neopaganism; Nuns I think is the best category for now unless a new sub-category opens up as Nuns by nationality seems odd as they would fit into several of those at the same time but that might be appropriate. Gender might seem like a duplicate but they actually fit into multiple subcategories within so I'm not sure what the best solution there is. Benjiboi 01:38, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
Question from a Misplaced Pages newbie
Hey, Bearcat, I see your signature on several Manitoba articles I have looked at. You recently made a good fix to an addition I had made to the Kevin Patterson article.
My question is this: Shouldn't this article have a proper references?
(I note that many stubs and short articles about Manitoba subjects are not referenced yet, but recently I had a note placed on an article I created saying that it did not meet standards of verifiability.) I'd do this referencing myself but I'm not sure I don't know how to yet. Blondeonblonde 20:19, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the info on how to change Category:Innu communities in Quebec to Category:Naskapi communities in Quebec, and the creation of those types of pages. As I'm sure is apparent, I'm new to Misplaced Pages. NBTV (Canada)
A tag has been placed on NBTV (Canada), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done because it is an article about a certain website, blog, forum, or other web content that does not assert the importance or significance of that web location. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles, as well as notability guidelines for websites. Please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material, please affix the template {{hangon}}
to the page, and put a note on Talk:NBTV (Canada). Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Thanks. WebHamster 00:52, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- I have made no attempt to tell an administrator how to do things. I called it as I saw it. I didn't check out your user account. You mean, is he confusing "social democracy" with "social liberalism"? I suppose it's possible, though one would think he'd have discovered his error by now.
There'd be no harm in clarifying the terminology on the talk page, I suppose. CJCurrie 01:36, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Hm. I have always assumed that our friend considers himself to be a social democrat and has a crush on Ms. Stronach. He is thus projecting his desire for her to share her views. I think I developed this theory early on based on his preoccupation with her, his dedication to securing a photo of her to post, and his early edits that replaced "Stronach" with "Belinda" because he thought it sounded better. I give you snaps for taking the time to try to reason thi through with him. I don't have hte patience anymore. The recent proliferation of new accounts promoting the same view makes me think that we're dealing with a rational person here. Ground Zero | t 02:33, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Cities
I didn't realize that there were so many cases in Canada like this! I just did Penticton because it came to mind (because of Kamloops and Kelowna) because I was just in the area a couple weeks ago. Instead of have just 50 different discussions on 50 different pages, it would probably be better just to leave a note on talk pages to come and discuss at a central location like Misplaced Pages:Canadian wikipedians' notice board/Cities. I know we moved a lot of pages last summer and established the new convention apart from the American one. If a couple more go through smoothly, it shouldn't be an issue for a bunch more in the exact same situation. -Royalguard11(T·R!) 00:51, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Notability of National Campus and Community Radio Association
A tag has been placed on National Campus and Community Radio Association, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Misplaced Pages guidelines.

warning
A tag has been placed on Elaine MacDonald, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as articles for deletion. If you can indicate how Elaine MacDonald is different from the previously posted material, or if you can indicate why this article should not be deleted, I advise you to place the template {{hangon}} underneath the other template on the article, and also put a note on Talk:Elaine MacDonald saying why this article should stay. An admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 4 under General criteria. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. We welcome your help in trying to improve Misplaced Pages, and we request you to follow these instructions.
Your edit comment that all candidates "MUST" be listed and "deletion is NOT acceptable" flies in the face of a an AfD procedure which resulted in a decision to delete, not a decision to redirect. Your action is a direction violation of Misplaced Pages policy. Continued action of this nature will result in your being blocked. Realkyhick 18:18, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- You certainly can tag a redirect for speedy, if it is a reposting of a title that was deleted through AfD as this one was. If there was a "convention" (please cite this) in place to redirect, you should have said so in the AfD discussion, but you did not even participate in this discussion. Instead, you took it upon yourself to ignore the results of the AfD, thereby violating Misplaced Pages policy. If you really think this article should be recreated as a redirect despite the AfD decision to delete, then I suggest you follow proper procedures and submit the article for deletion review. I would likely support a decision for redirect. My only problem is that you ignored the AfD and posted the redirect anyway. You've been around here long enough to know the rules.
- Let me add that if I had known about the main candidate article, I would have pulled the AfD nomination and redirected it myself. Realkyhick 18:30, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- I must say that I was a little surprised that the AfD was not relisted for more consensus, but apparently the admin handling it felt the case for deletion was strong enough. That's their call, not mine. (I'm not an admin, and don't have a burning desire to be one.) Again, I think the proper thing to do is to go through WP:DRV. I think it would probably be restored in fairly short order, and I would certainly put in a good word for it. It's not too difficult; I've done it myself, and if I can do it, a caveman can do it. (Sorry, just saw a GEICO commercial on TV.) Realkyhick 18:55, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- As the AfD closer, I generally have tended to close debates with only three participants (including the nominator) all recommending delete; there tend to be quite a few of these each day, and the vast majority of them are uncontroversial, but that is clearly not the case here. Since both of you seem to be in agreement with the merge/redirect, which seems like a reasonable option, I'm perfectly willing to reverse my deletion of the edit history and save everyone the process of a DRV, as the debate wasn't reflective of the complete situation. Misplaced Pages isn't a bureaucracy, after all, and the first step listed WP:DP#Deletion review is to contact the closing admin for discussion, before DRV. — TKD::Talk 19:08, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Warner
Thx for the comment Bearcat. Sorry if I interpreted your comments to be negative regarding the existence of an article on Warner. I was really surprised that it seemed some people were against the existence of the article, but not for any other candidates (and pretty much all these people had an edit history with the Warner article, as well as other candidates).
I'm still not sure why the article speedily deleted and not edited! It was my first actual article contribution to Misplaced Pages, and was actually quite surprised at some of the reactions surrounding it from a very small body of users. I kind of ignored the article after I posted it, but I remember looking at the history at one point and getting the impression that a couple of users seemed on a vandetta to wipe Mr. Warner's education and personal history (despite this being referenced and truly peacock free), only to have the user Canam1 stubbornly posting it back. BTW, I agree the intro was pretty Peacocky but in my defence I have never done a bio before and thought the references were OK (which apparently some admins sided with during the discussion). Most of my Misplaced Pages experience over the years with small anonymous edits or corrections were to Computer Science related articles and those never have issues! I guess non-political articles are the brighter side of this site.
On that note, I have a n00b question if you don't mind: I greatly expanded the article about Bluetooth Scatternet's because it was a stub and had a context tag. I removed the context tag because I think I've explained the concept well enough, but at what point does an article not become a stub? I notice there's a severe lack of information on Misplaced Pages regarding Bluetooth and other wireless technologies, and want to contribute more, so I'm really wondering about this... Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grandmasterkush (talk • contribs) 16:56, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

New Sudbury FM at 91.7 call sign
Hi Bearcat, I noticed that you had made up a new article for a future new radio station in Sudbury, Ontario to broadcast at 91.7 FM with a new call sign, CICS. I have no ideas of where you got this call sign from but I had e-mailed Larche Communications and a few other places to try and find out what the new call sign will be for the new country FM radio station in Sudbury and they've never replied! Since the branding will be KICX-FM, I figured that one of the new call signs for the new radio station would possibly be: CIKS, CIKX, CKKX, CKKS, CKXS, CIXS, and the one that has been picked, CICS. If I had already known what the new call sign will be, I could possibly had made the new article already, but thanks anyways! :-) Take care. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.167.224.11 (talk) 10:11, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Template:Ontario TV
Heya! I've noticed you've merged all of the templates into one super template...won't it be harder to manage it like this, instead of as separate individual templates? it's not exactly standard, becuase the american TV templates aren't merged like this... i think the markets should be separate, like their american counterparts, but i won't revert or re-split them. i'd like to hear your response. :) RingtailedFox • Talk • Stalk 11:39, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ahh, ok. i get it. Would it be alright if i put the station channels in, at least? maybe with a note saying "channel is for originating station"? RingtailedFox • Talk • Stalk 18:02, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Montreal TV
I see, however I think major markets should still have a separate template. 5 out of the 9 stations in Montreal for example don't have a network of repeaters. The 4 that do still originate in Montreal (CKMI is based in Quebec City, but focuses on Montreal). Then there's also the border stations that target Montreal. All the smaller markets that are mostly repeaters/stations with repeaters can be joined into one template. -Noname2 00:09, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, that's what I meant, to only list the originating stations on the template. Also, in the case of Burlington/Plattsburgh stations in Montreal, not only do they reach Montreal over the air, but they try to sell advertising there and identify themselves as serving "Burlington, Plattsburgh, and Montreal". It's not like, say, Minneapolis stations in Winnipeg. -Noname2 12:54, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Canadian Radio Personalities
Bearcat what is your issue with regards to adding people to the Canadian Radio Personality Stub? I've tried to add someone and it's simply gone... deleted by you?! There are many on here, and I am simply trying to add to the list. Please See http://en.wikipedia.org/Category:Canadian_radio_personalities or http://en.wikipedia.org/Category:Canadian_television_biography_stubs
These are all lists of people in the industry. Please advise as to why you are giving me a hard time with this. Thank you
Thanks for getting back to me. I did change it to make it less of a biography (as you stated last time) and also added web sources this time for the references. As I mentioned, I added it to the Canadian Radio Personality Stubs that has quite a big list. Why can't this person be added. He is just as notable as the others in the list? Why does this stub exist if someone who fits the criteria of the stub can't be added? Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shock wav (talk • contribs) 16:29, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Ontario map
- Nice job. Looks much nicer than the plain white one we were using before. Though it's obviously going to take quite a while to replace every map that needs replacing on here...I'd help if I had a clue how to do the dot placement! Bearcat 03:52, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. :)
There is a code in the infoboxes that allows you to control the dot placement. If the following doesn't appear in the infobox, the just copy/paste it in.
|image_dot_map = Ontario Locator Map.svg
|dot_mapsize = 250px
|dot_map_caption = Location of {{PAGENAME}} *OR* Location of City in Ontario (if you want to personalize each one; {{PAGENAME}} is much quicker)
|dot_x = XX |dot_y = YY
XX is the horizontal placement, with 0 being the left side and 250 being the right side.
YY is the vertical placement, with 0 being the top and 250 being the bottom.
Usually I estimate where it is (ie. X 140 Y 200) then change it by smaller amounts until I get it in the right spot, using the preview mode. It isn't hard but it is a bit time consuming.
If you're going to try it, only replace maps which use the base map and a red dot. I have separate maps for single-tier municipalities and will be adding maps with insets for other cities like Toronto or Niagara Falls at a later time. vıdıoman (talk • contribs) 04:05, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Succession boxes vs. nav templates
I noticed you've been removing succession boxes from Lt-Govs. It is a rule somewhere that we can only use one and not the other? Just curious. Kevlar67 18:25, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
On the same lines...
If it already mentions someones successor in their main infobox (e.g. MPs, Senators) should we be getting rid of succession boxes there too? Or should we try to use infobox in a way that doesn't mention successors? What about people who held many offices? I'm thinking about your Stephane Dions and your Lucien Bouchards Kevlar67 18:40, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- You just read my mind. Kevlar67 18:42, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
