Due to my work, I will not be editing much for a while. I'll be back when I can, but chances are good that I won't be doing much serious editing for some time. Return times vary from very little time to April 2006 (though if it's that far ahead, it will probably be interspersed with small edits). I'll see you all later. Just a thanks

I've been following the Snowspinner AN/I and RFC pretty closely, and I really appreciate the measured and reasoned tone you've taken through the whole (terribly frustrating) thing. And I guess I learned something, too— might as well ask someone to chop off a body part as give up adminship. Hmmph, so much for it being "no big deal". Bunchofgrapes (talk) 18:21, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

Thank you, I'm very grateful for that. I really appreciate these comments a great deal. It's been extremely frustrating: Snowspinner more or less has ignored me, and David Gerard and Tony have just been insulting. I can see their point of view, but they could have been much more helpful by being polite, trying to see things my way (and others) rather that railroading them, and not being so gloating. I've tried to be courteous, and I'm thankful that someone recognizes that. I figure that the best thing I can do now is to walk away from it with all the dignity I can muster. I left a message on Snowspinner's talk page trying to clear things up (which again, he didn't respond to). And I agree about the adminship bit. Thanks one more time. --Blackcap | talk 18:32, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

I want to echo Bunchofgrapes remarks above. Don't let Tony or David or Snow bully or intimidate you. I think you were justified in your actions. And believe me, a lot of your fellow editors support your actions. You deserve the communities thanks and respect for having the courage of your convictions to go up against one of the more established editors like Snowspinner. And I think you have handled yourself well throughout all of this. My thanks and regards. Paul August 20:22, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

Thank you, thank you very much. I'm touched. Thank you a lot, I really needed that. --Blackcap | talk 20:28, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
You are very welcome, you are very deserving of everything I said. Paul August 17:05, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

Sugar! It's like when you're thinking "I've got to call Ring Foo" and then they call you first. Things might have gone differently had the thoughtfull and well written "addendum" been put first instead of later. But live and learn, eh? Have you looked at the current discussion on the main RfC talk page? This is a section of wikipedian life that could use a tune-up and your input would be appreciated.

Can I just second everything that has been said here? You have done really good work on this RfC and said what needed to be said. Thank you. Filiocht | The kettle's on 07:38, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

You're welcome, and thank you for coming here and saying so. I really appreciate that a lot, I can't tell you what a wonderful feeling it is to be supported when it hasn't felt that way for a difficult few days. Thank you. --Blackcap | talk 17:46, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
The pleasure was all mine. Filiocht | The kettle's on 07:40, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

I too endorse this section ;-). Admins need questioning every once in a while. You did the right thing. Don't let the anti-AFD jihad get to you. ~~ N (t/c) 18:51, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

O.K. I won't. Thanks again, mate. --Blackcap | talk 19:00, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

Smerge

Thanks for the barnstar. Good to see it's now official shorthand too. I was hesitant to do anything official with it, as for a while I was the only one using it, but now I think I've seen maybe half a dozen folks or so using it as well. In my view it has an additional advantage over "stubify and merge", as there's a view among that all stubs are articles that need expansion, so stubifying a long article is by definition a step backwards. Personally, I think it depends on how the word is used; many use it for short articles, which I think is erroneous; there are some topics in which a paragrpah is about all there can be said (or should be said, anyway). Take care. -R. fiend 19:37, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

You're welcome. I definitely agree about the stub bit. My personal opinion is that small articles that say all they need to shouldn't have stub tags; they should just be considered small articles. Of course, if relevant expansion that isn't fancruft or some other nonsense happens, then great, I certainly won't be complaining. Anyway, there's an AfD going on in which I desperately needed this word, but didn't know it; now, hopefully, it'll be more accessible. --Blackcap | talk 19:48, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

Stress

Perfectly percolated Esperanza blend coffee, just for you!

I hear you're a bit stressed, so I thought I'd drop off a cup of Esperanza's coffee and offer a sympathetic ear if you need to talk. -- Essjay · Talk 20:57, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

Hey

Hey buddy. That was very nice of you, bestowing paramedic support on me. :) You blokes are the best. I declined because I'd like more experience, but I'm honored and thankful for what you said. Incidentally, Blackcap, I've read what you wrote on the RfC talk page and here, and I'll probably write something there soon. I don't think you should be viewing it as anything other than a successful RfC; an RfC's goal is to get comments from the community, and yours did a fantastic job of it. People with many different points of view commented: some in full support of Snow, most recognising that whatever their point of view on "inclusionism" or "deletionism" what Snow did was wrong (and these people were from many different points on the spectrum), and yet others who felt it would be more useful to use the opportunity to push for reform (which I think wherever we are on the spectrum, we can all agree will be useful; AfD, like other WP processes, can be improved). Your RfC generated dozens of thoughtful comments—for, against, and ambivalent, and even attracted comment many editors who normally don't comment on RfCs: I would not describe it as anything other than very successful. So no need to feel down, OK? :) Best (and thanks again!) encephalon 06:05, 8 October 2005 (UTC)

You're very welcome, you deserve it. By the by (he said, embarrassed, hoping no one would notice) I'm not actually a paramedic. I'm not even an EMT (can't get DoT certified for another year). I'll begin training next fall—right now I'm training for a SAR unit, and I'll have my wilderness First Responder by August (should, anyway). Paramedic'll come in a few years, that's where I'm headed. Don't worry though, I'll be sewing people up in no time. I put that there because I knew you're a doctor (internal medicine, was it?) and that's the area I'm getting into. Anyway, when you feel you have the experience you want, just drop me a line and you'll have an insta-nomination. I'm sure Titoxd feels the same way: you might want to go to him first because he did nominate you before I got to.
I mostly agree about the RfC. It was successful in getting comments/opinions, but poor in getting any kind of consensus. Opinions just aren't very useful when they aren't used for anything (IMHO). And I feel fine, now, it was just very frustrating. It wasn't a failure, but I felt blasted by people who took a lot of things I said the wrong way (or so it seemed), or just plain ignored me or my points. That was what was really the problem (and it was probably more of a personal one than one with the RfC), and also that no matter what I said to Snowspinner he didn't seem to either 1) care enough to respond, whether to me or on the RfC, or 2) want to be reasonably courteous/civil (which is also more of a personal problem). At this point, I'd rather drop it and see if it happens again than struggle upwind. Also, I need to get away from WP for a good while anyway, both for my own sake and due to my work, which is again taking me away from the computer. I'm not brooding about it.
Anyway, this is getting rather verbose :). Thanks for the note: I appreciate it. You'll see me kicking around a while yet. Slán go fóill, --Blackcap | talk 00:57, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

Brain Teasers/Trivia:

Hi, I'm just posting a friendly notice stating that I have got Brain Teasers/Trivia on my user page that you're welcome to have a go at. Will post new questions one day after they have been answered. Thanks... Spawn Man 09:37, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your support on my RfA!

Thanks for your support of my adminship!! I was surprised at the turnout and support I got! If you ever have any issues with any of my actions, please notify me on my talk page! Thanks again! BTW the SnowSpinner RFC was an excellent idea - don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Your comments on AfD help make it better place too! Ryan Norton 03:40, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

My pleasure. You deserve the mop. And thanks, I'm grateful for your support regarding the Snowspinner RfC. I'm always glad for comments, but supportive ones are more uplifting than their opposite number :). --Blackcap | talk 03:50, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

Hey

Hey buddy. I just archived my page, so I'm placing a diff here about the issue you raised. Great to see you back! My turn to go now, though :( Catch you later. encephalon 20:44, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
