Shogi, sometimes called Japanese chess, is a strategy board game played primarily in Japan. Like Western chess and Chinese xiangqi, it is ultimately descended from the ancient Indian game of Chaturanga. Like chess, it has many variants—some of these are among the largest boardgames in the world.
