About something

"I'm ... perfectly willing to engage in reasonable discussion" So far you have demonstrated that this is not true. Listen, I don't really care if you delete this message. Just read it. We've all seen people like you come and go. I'm guessing that you're a very arrogant and very intelligent person, and for whatever reason, you've decided that you really don't want to participate in Misplaced Pages's endless pointless mindless discussions and just want to be left alone to work on articles. For a very long time, this described me perfectly. As long as people don't bug you about random crap like this and you keep churning out good work, everyone will be happy. However, here's my Nostradamus-like prediction: You'll be working on an article by yourself. Some other editor will also be interested in that subject or will have been planning to begin working on it. This editor will attempt oh-so-valiantly to engage in polite discussion with you. Judging by what I've seen, you will be the one who is unable to keep his cool. You will resort to name-calling. You will refuse to collaborate because, according to you, that's not what Misplaced Pages is about. You may even go so far as to be blocked from editing, perhaps even permanently.

This is not a lecture. This is not a threat. This is not bureaucracy. This is not an attempt to pick a fight. This is just a prediction. So, assuming this prediction is true, you have two choices: First, you can keep being a douchebag who refuses to communicate until it gets you blocked. Second, the next time someone correctly accuses you of being uncivil, take the hit. Swallow your pride, read what you wrote, apologize if necessary, and move on. Don't be a little drama queen, don't blank your talk page, don't ask people to leave you alone, and don't talk about wanting to puke (unless you're Mary Kate Olsen). Sound good? Great. --Cryptic C62 · Talk 16:35, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

You see, it all started when I was templated with a request to consider changing my username. My reply was a firm, if curt, "No". I thought mature people can take "no" for an answer, and not pile on "but you must collaborate!", but obviously I was wrong.
It may have been phrased more nicely, but then, I was slightly annoyed by the a) template used and b) the request itself. Then, I got a whole load of crap on my talkpage and the WP:RFCN, where I was accused of incivility, impoliteness, as well as "Behave!", "Be civil!". I think I managed to maintain my cool to stay within limits of civil interaction, though I'd like to see you in my position. Well, if I, say, asked you if you could show me your penis, and you said "no. piss off!", should then everybody around jump on your back and shout "OMG watch your tongue", "what an arsehole!", "why you're so uncooperative"?
In turn, I think that I am entitled to receive some apologies, for the treatment I got, though I don't really expect them coming. To my initial "no", the words in various responses included: "arse" (by yourself), "need a rehab" , then I got my userpage created without even a question, and I started deleting messages after this ton of crap, pardon my French, which really got me out of tracks. And now, you say that I was the one who was a drama queen and escalated the situation. Well, perhaps. But all I wanted is to get all you people off my back, and you could not obey even such a basic request.
Sorry, but words such as need a rehab do make me puke, be them directed towards myself or anyone else, and they strongly resemble One Flight over the Cuckoo's Nest. You know, that whole "you must collaborate!" "be civil!" "behave!" attitude resembles questioning in Guantanamo rather than a dialog among supposed peers. Sorry, but I feel I've been mistreated. And yes I'm still pissed off, but I don't feel like vandalizing the hell of this place because of that. I'll swallow it and go on... somewhere.
As for your predictions, I think they're way off the target. A far more likely scenario is that I'll get my pages deleted and get to hell out of here. I didn't expect such a hivemind mindset here, I must say. No such user (talk) 07:22, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Pfft. Correction: If someone were to ask to see my penis, I'd whip out that monster in a heartbeat. Seriously though, sorry for the "arse" thing, I just figured that was the most concise way to get my message across without offending you. As for "needs a rehab", I agree with you. I read that and I was like "...Seriously? This is obviously a contentious discussion, did you really have to spray lighter fluid all over the fire?" But it's in situations like that where we all need to just take a step back, WP:AGF, and forget about it. Quoting people in diffs and crying "I've been wronged! Weh! Hivemind! Conspiracy!" isn't going to help anything. We're not hiveminds. Quite the opposite! Perhaps your feeling mistreated is, in a way, a good thing, as it exposes you to the hard truth of Misplaced Pages. Yes, we are here to collaborate, but people do butt heads, hard and often. Sometimes people get fed up and burnt out, most of the time we just get over it and move on. Too often do newcomers assume that the back room of Misplaced Pages is some sort of candyland where everyone is happy all the time, but once they see the bar fights that go on, they get scared or repulsed and don't want to delve deeper. Nonsense! You seem like the person whose skin is thick enough that you can just mutter "Fuck off already, will you?" under your breath and keep going about your business. Do that. It's much better than leaving the project. I promise. --Cryptic C62 · Talk 13:10, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
I'm not playing a crybaby with these diffs, just showing you how the chain of events unrolled. I probably shouldn't have commented at WP:RFCN at all, as I had promised, but that rehab shit really got me stunned; I'd rather be told a frank "fuck off you arsehole" than being patronized. I'm also a bit surprised at people's failure to comprehend how well-intended comments can be actively harmful (see, however, also Hanlon's Razor). I suppose I should have logged off rather than allow myself being annoyed more and more. Don't worry, my skin is thick enough and I got over it.
And thank you for being blunt, seriously; I appreciate that much more than sneaky "might need a rehab" crap. Now, fuck off already, will you? :-). No such user (talk) 14:02, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Hee, I'd be happy to, though I would recommend removing the anti-arsehole banner at the top of your talk page. It's more likely to draw unwanted attention than to deflect it. --Cryptic C62 · Talk 15:08, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Belgrade

I am all for it but you have to accept that you can make mistakes too. I know that those yearbooks aren't very serious, not even close to census information. They only give estimates that are usually very wrong. There are more voters (which means 18 years and older residents) in voter registry of Belgrade than what the yearbook estimates for the total population, which makes me doubt their information is even close to being serious. I know you have the best intentions too but we need to cooperate, and like I said before please don't spend your energy on removing something that other people spend time on writing just because of the different personal preference. Thanks. --Avala (talk) 21:06, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Troubles

I am having troubles with user Mike Babic who claims that the Government and President and Parliament of Serbia didn't translate the anthem properly and in the right spirit and that we should therefore use his translation that omits word God. Now that is obviously impossible because we have a very strong no original policy here (even if he was 100% right). He also added false dead link templates and templates that the information given by the highest authorities in Serbia is dubious based on his opinion not facts. Now I am trying to remove these things he keeps on adding to the article on anthem and I am asking you to help me out. I might have erased some of your additions to the article when I reverted his edits last time so you might want to check that.--Avala (talk) 10:40, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Yeah perhaps their website is not all that good but this user is claiming how he has the strong case to dispute the content itself but he doesn't have the right to do so because he can't provide any reliable sources other than his opinion on this matter. Maybe I could claim how the US as a secular country can't have a motto In God We Trust, but where would be my reliable sources to confirm my claim and justify removing it from the USA article here? Nowhere. The same goes with Mike Babic's position on the anthem translation, he might not like it but it's got nothing to do with Misplaced Pages. The only thing that is problematic is the anthem title, because some use the first verse as the title while some call it Lord, Give Us Justice but that is perfectly noted in the article so it shouldn't cause any further troubles.--Avala (talk) 11:01, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
