The Pensacola Bible Institute (PBI), Pensacola Florida, is an unaccredited three-year, private institution founded in 1965. The Institute offers courses in the evening which lead to "certificates" of graduation, the B.D. and Th.M. Females are limited to the "certificate" program.

Background

The founder of the Institute, Peter S. Ruckman, is a graduate of Bob Jones University. He was also a personal friend of the founder of that institution (Bob Jones Sr.), who encouraged him to remain there after graduation to teach Greek. Ruckman left the University, however, for full time ministry and evangelism. He started his own school because he disagreed with the position of major fundamentalist institutions (including Bob Jones) with regard to Biblical translations. More specifically, Ruckman holds that the King James Version of the Bible constitutes "advanced revelation" English translation; that the methodology typically employed in new translations such as the New International Version is false or at best inconsistent; and that the modern adoption of the Codex Vaticanus & Sinaiticus to correct the traditional majority manuscripts is in error. This is a controversial view, since many modern translations have involved considerable scholarly input, and represents an extreme even within the King-James-Only Movement.

Faculty

PBI lacks a website or published prospectus, so the faculty size, staff size, student body size, what courses offered and instructors' credentials are unknown. Graduates of PBI typically go on to become evangelists, pastors and missionaries. The school's unaccredited status means that degrees are unlikely to be of value outside these activities.

Pensacola Bible Institute's address is 1171 Jojo Road, Pensacola, FL 32514.
