My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – Friendship Games is an upcoming Canadian–American animated musical fantasy comedy film directed by Jayson Thiessen. Its intended to be the sequel to 2013's My Little Pony: Equestria Girls and 2014's My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – Rainbow Rocks and the third installment in the Equestria Girls film series. This film was confirmed by Australian home media distributor Beyond Home Entertainment via Facebook. This film was slated to be released on fall 2015.
Production
The third installment was first teased by Rainbow Rocks co-director, Ishi Rudell. Brony Donald "Dusty Katt" Rhodes tweeted wondering about Rudell's silence on Twitter, and Rudell announced that he was "too busy working on #3".
On January 20, 2015, at the 2015 London Toy Fair, some merchandise was unveiled labeled My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Friendship Games. According to a visitor at London's 2015 Toy Fair, the film will see the Canterlot Wondercolts face off against the Shadowcolts in all kinds of sporting events. Some vectors for the merchandise include Applejack and Fluttershy in archery outfits, Twilight Sparkle's human world counterpart, and a new as-of-yet unidentified character. Toys have also appeared on Amazon with the character names of Indigo Zap, Lemon Zest, Sour Sweet, Sugar Coat, and Sunny Flare.
On January 29, 2015, Australian home media distributor Beyond Home Entertainment stated via Facebook that they had "acquired the rights for Seasons 4 and 5 of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and second and third Equestria Girls movies". During Hasbro's investor presentation on February 13, 2015 at the New York Toy Fair, it was announced that the sequel, titled Equestria Girls: Friendship Games, will be released sometime in late 2015.
