Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Misplaced Pages. For information on retitling files, categories, and other items, see § When not to use this page.

Before moving a page or requesting a move, please review the article titling policy and the guidelines on primary topics.

Any autoconfirmed user can move a page using the "Move" option in the editing toolbar; see how to move a page for more information. If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:

  • Technical reasons may prevent a move; for example, a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. In such cases, see § Requesting technical moves.
  • Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
  • A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
  • A page should not be moved and a new move discussion should not be opened when there is already an open move request on a talk page. Instead, please participate in the open discussion.
  • Unregistered and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.

Requests are typically processed after seven days. If consensus supports the move at or after this time, a reviewer will perform it. If there is a consensus not to move the page, the request will be closed as "not moved." When consensus remains unclear, the request may be relisted to allow more time, or closed as "no consensus". See Misplaced Pages:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.

Misplaced Pages:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.

When not to use this page

Shortcuts

Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:

Undiscussed moves

Shortcuts

Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:

  • No article exists at the new target title;
  • There has been no previous discussion about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
  • It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.

If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.

Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.

This page has an administrative backlog that requires the attention of willing administrators.
Please replace this notice with {{no admin backlog}} when the backlog is cleared.

Uncontroversial proposals

Only list here proposals that are clearly uncontroversial but require administrator help to complete. Things like capitalization and spelling mistakes would be appropriate here. If there is any prior discussion as to the name of the article please link to it. If there is any possibility that the proposed page move could be opposed by anyone, do not list it in this section. If the move location appears as a red link you should be able to move the article using the move button of the top of the article's page and don't need to use this page

Please use {{subst:WP:RM2|Old page name|Requested name|Reason for move}} for uncontroversial moves only; do not copy, paste, and edit previous entries. No dated sections are necessary, and no templates on the article's talk page are necessary.

If your request was not fulfilled, and was removed from this section, please relist it in the other proposals section below.

  • Portal:Utah/GovernmentGovernment of Utah — (relisting this - was removed but I don't see that anything was done) I wanted to create an article from the content in the Portal, but I screwed up and did a cut-and-paste instead of a move and would like the page history moved to the new article. The portal sub-page is no longer used, so the re-direct won't mess up the portal (and could be deleted). Thanks. —— Zaui (talk) 18:38, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Null vector (vector space)Null vector — Page should be changed to the more common name, overwriting the existing redirect page if possible. Otherwise, you can drop me a note and I'l fix the redirects as necesary. The null vector page was a disambiguation page, but in fact the vast majority of uses of "null vector" have to do with vector space, not with the physics (Minkowski space, so the disambigution page was incorrect as set up; I moved it. This requested move will complete the process of fixing this. Thanks. —-- John Broughton 18:58, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Other proposals

All of the proposals listed below need to have a discussion set up on talk page of the article to be moved. Please use the template {{subst:WP:RM|Old Page Name|Requested name|Reason for move}} and, if necessary, create a new dated section.

Please use the correct template: see the instructions above. Do NOT attempt to copy and paste formatting from another listing.

— (The request is based on the principal of the common denominator established by the category:UTC-5. Per the automated New WP:CCT Category UTC-5 there is a demonstration that cities generally have the coma, space and then the state or province name following the city's name. Ottawa should redirect to Ottawa, Ontario and not vis-versa. All the above cities need there province. This will help when categorizing cities for the WP:CCT project. --CyclePat 03:10, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Asif Iqbal (detainee)Asif Iqbal (Guantanamo detainee 87) —(Discuss)— This article was previously named Asif Iqbal (Guantanamo detainee 87). This is consistent with several dozen other Guantanamo captives. Many of those Guantanamo captive's names collided with the names of other Guantanamo captives. I gave the rest of them similar names, for consistency and predictability. Another wikipedian thought Asif Iqbal (Guantanamo detainee 87) was too verbose. I felt this name failed to provide enough details to distinguish this individual from other Asif Iqbals who were also prisoners. The other wikipedian disputed that this was likely to ever be a problem. But it turned out that there was another Asif Iqbal imprisoned because he was suspected of terrorism. So, I believe the article should be restored to the previous name. — Geo Swan 21:09, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Main PagePortal:Main page —(Discuss)— Not an article, is a portal, contradicts Misplaced Pages's policy. Only reason last one closed is because of WP:NOT (as in democracy) and the RM was flawed with confusion about whether it would be at Misplaced Pages:Main page or Portal:Main page. While this move is highly controversial, it needs to be done as to prevent contradiction to Misplaced Pages policy. This will not create hundreds of broken links - not many pages redirect to Main Page any way and bots can fix redirects over time. —09:16, 11 January 2007 (UTC)--HamedogTalk|
Relisting; discussion is ongoing. -GTBacchus 07:51, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Ishin NishioNisio Isin —(Discuss)— While Ishin Nishio follows Misplaced Pages's naming conventions, this author's penname was designed to be a palindrome, and appeared as Nisio Isin on the copyright page at the back of his novels. It is his legal, official romanized name, and should not be spelled in any other fashion. —Doceirias 02:03, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Mount Diablo State ParkMount Diablo —(Discuss)— I don't think this will be controversial, but just in case, I'm putting it here. The article is about all aspects of Mount Diablo, so article title should reflect the broader subject. The article even has a mountain infobox rather than a park infobox. I was ready to simply move it myself, but because "Mount Diablo" exists as a redirect page, its not allowing me to make the move. —Peter G Werner 09:45, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Iron maiden (disambiguation)iron maiden —(Discuss)— Move originally proposed as uncontroversial by M3tal H3ad with reason: "Moved this page after reading the discussion on it (should be Iron maiden), need an admins help to remove it back, thanks." Uncontroversial nature of the move contested by myself, with reason "There's a clear controversy about this move on the article's talk page, with the previous request closed as "No Consensus". It should be discussed through the normal channels.", and PC78 with reason "You'd need to re-open the debate for this one." Debate moved to "Controversial" secton by GTBacchus. This is a procedural completion of the formal nomination process. —Tevildo 16:55, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Mario LópezMario Lopez —(Discuss)— Official website uses his name without an accent. While other sources (IMDB, TV.com, etc.) include the accent, if his official site doesn't stylize his name that way, that could be considered definitive. Another editor has removed all instances of the accent in the article. —Tinlinkin 10:57, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Hurricanes (Super rugby franchise)Hurricanes —(Discuss)— Allows the team to be under its proper name. Hurricanes redirects to Tropical Cyclone and if somebody was looking for information about tropical cyclones by typing Hurricanes, a banner at the top of the page would inform a reader of this. —06:35, 22 January 2007 (UTC)--HamedogTalk|
  • Disaster filmDisaster movie —(Discuss)— These are commonly know as Disaster movies. Some editors want to impose the guideline name for individual films which says to use film. However this guideline does not apply to, nor should it, to genre classes of films. This should be moved to the same name as the category to end any confusion. —Vegaswikian 00:27, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Sea starStarfish —(Discuss)— this move was done about 1.5 years ago, without consulting WP:RM. The name "sea star" seems to be a new term in order to correct the fact that a starfish is not actually a fish; however, it's not nearly the most common term: google gets 6 mil. hits for starfish: , and sea star gets under 1 million: Patstuart 19:49, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Hot Coffee modHot Coffee controvesy —(Discuss)— The mod itself doesn't appear to be the actual center of the controvesy. In fact, much of the attention and criticism are towards the hidden minigame, San Andreas and Rockstar Games. The title also sidelines the methods used on game consoles versions (cheating devices, not mods) to unlock the minigame. ╫ 25 13:57, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

  • M1 Garand RifleM1 Garand —(Discuss)— Page keeps being moved by user deathbunny back to M1 Garand rifle. Said user points to a 'weapon task force page' with a multitude of errors in categorizing a list of weapons in adding suffixes to things that do not need an disambiguator (for instance, there is only one thing called an M1 Garand, thus there is no need for it to be called the M1 Garand rifle, as opposed to the M9, M16, etc, which can mean multiple things). User repeatedly ignores attempts to have a discussion on the mainpage of the M1 Garand, instead citing the "weapon's task force" http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Military_history/Weaponry_task_force as previously noted full of errors. On top of that, the decision to change the names of multiple pages, not just the M1 Garand's, was based on an inconclusive vote by a handful of people. Please fix this move-move back issue as soon as possible, and set it up so that each individual page must decide what to name their page, not a "task force" of five people.Brenden 04:51, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Saint-Leonard, QuebecSaint Leonard, Quebec —(Discuss)— The article started off at this, its correct English name as per common usage by English-speaking residents. It was then moved to the French name, in contravention of Misplaced Pages's naming policy and Misplaced Pages community consensus. In an attempt to change it back to the English name, a semi-correct version was chosen, without accent but with hyphen. Other cities in Quebec have been filly translated to the common English name, for example Montreal West, Quebec, and the same should be done here. —74.15.145.221 01:13, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

We should move Lieutenant-Governors of Ontario to List of Lieutenant-Governors of Ontario, as that article is clearly a list. I would also like to do this move because Monarchy in Ontario is more appropriately named Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario, which also redirects to Lieutenant-Governors of Ontario. "Monarchy of Ontario" is pretty much an article about the "Lieutenant Governor of Ontario". I have not listed this as an "uncontroversial" move because the edit summaries for these articles seem to indicate a number of disputed manual moves. In fact, once "Monarchy of Ontario" is moved to "Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario" and "Lieutenant-Governors of Ontario" becomes "List of Lieutenant-Governors of Ontario", the other articles only need their re-directs changed. —Agent 86 00:53, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
