DYK for Hina Suguta

On 5 March 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Hina Suguta, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Hina Suguta, who voices Marin Kitagawa in My Dress-Up Darling, worked as a nursery teacher before starting her voice acting career? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Hina Suguta. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Hina Suguta), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Prayer for Ukraine

I took this pic in 2009. It was on the German MP yesterday, with this song from 1885, in English Prayer for Ukraine. - Yes, I take side. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:33, 6 March 2022 (UTC)

As much as I personally agree that as people we should take a stand in supporting Ukraine, I am very uncomfortable with using DYK to promote any particular political viewpoint. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 22:48, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
I heard that, therefore I tell you that the German SG (the equivalent to DYK) prefers Ukraine hooks. It was now on their Main page for two days without problems. The suppression was there in 1885, as you hopefully read in the article, and I am too old to wait until its over. - Trying to please: I will not nominate a singer Ipigott wrote about because it would be a day late, - I forgot over the heartbreak, with vivid memories of real people. The German hook (not by me) said that the old prayer is heard many places around the world. DYK that SNL made three exceptions from a sketch to open the show: 9-11, a school shooting, and this. The New York Times wrote that. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:03, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
We are not the German Misplaced Pages. We have our own rules and guidelines that may be different from them. If you want us to have a Ukraine focus, you are free to start a discussion about it, but you have to note that just because the German Misplaced Pages does it doesn't necessarily mean we should follow. There has to be local consensus and that is independent of what the German Misplaced Pages decides to do. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 23:06, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
Wikimedia called for a Ukrainian Culture focus. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:16, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
It should be noted that Ukraine CDM was already scheduled long before the invasion, the timing was just an unfortunate coincidence. As far as I'm aware, it is also an annual thing so that it happened now had nothing to do with the invasion nor a show of support. If you want DYK or the main page as a whole to have a Ukrainian focus in solidarity with Ukraine, I would suggest you start a discussion about it either at WT:DYK or the village pump. I do not know if such a proposal would gain traction here given that previous examples of the English Misplaced Pages taking a political stand have largely been rejected (except for the SOPA black-out), but it may be worth trying. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 23:21, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
but I don't want that, just passing an article about a 1885 song without censorship would be enough for me --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:29, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
User talk:Gerda Arendt#Messiah (Handel) scheduled for TFA. I will not comment in the RfC. My solidarity isn't only with the Ukrainians but the Russians threatened with imprisonment if they speak up. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:46, 7 March 2022 (UTC)

Listening to the charity concert mentioned here. I created the articles of the Ukrainian composer and the Polish soprano. Balance on top. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:45, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

today: an Ukrainian singer - I tried to ping you to the open Merseburger nom, but perhaps that failed? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:18, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

I suggest to create Saya Aizawa

Hi Narutolovehinata5 i request to create a article about Japanese voice actress Saya Aizawa, she has a voice roles like Yuzuki Tachibana from Anime: Taisho Otome Fairy Tale and upcoming voice role Kisara from Anime: Engage Kiss so would like to create this article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lovemuhcko (talkcontribs) 05:50, 26 March 2022 (UTC)

@Lovemuhcko: I just created a stub for her; however you're free to further expand the article, including adding a filmography. I think I forgot to add a DEFAULTSORT template to the page so maybe you can also do that? I'm a bit busy right now so I don't really have the time to expand the article further. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 06:14, 26 March 2022 (UTC)

another 4-1 afd

Since you already made a bunch of April Fools AfDs is it possible for you to go ahead and add another one?

Thank you. 172.112.210.32 (talk) 00:07, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

I'm not too familiar with the game so I'm probably not the best person to make it. I don't know what kind of jokes I can use. Sorry. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:10, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
Fair enough.
Anyways, if you need any ideas to what Geometry Dash humor looks like, the most long-running joke in the game is "2.2 when", referencing the very long wait for the 2.2 update, along with "Is that a GD reference?", which people post in response to seeing something that happens to share a name with a Geometry Dash level (for example, Cataclysm, Slaughterhouse, Acu, etc). 172.112.210.32 (talk) 00:32, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

A-F-Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeiii!

I do have plans to create several joke nominations because yes, participating for April fools' joke AFD for humor. The problem is how do I nominate a page for joke deletion without using Twinkle? Thanks. Xinghua (she/her) • Talk 03:57, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

Just copy a blank nomination, remove the sort template (the one where you have to put a letter), and find-and-replace any specific words. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 04:02, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
Blank nomination. I think it would be like this:
===</nowiki>Page name goes here</nowiki>===
AfDs for this article:

New to Articles for deletion (AfD)? Read these primers!

{{la|Talk:Example1}} – (<includeonly>]</includeonly><noinclude><nowiki>] · Stats)
({{Find sources AFD|Page name})</nowiki>
where Page name goes here and Talk:Exmaple1 can be replaced by article names.
Am I right? Xinghua (she/her) • Talk 04:26, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

QPQ

I dont have 5 DYKs. The rule is clear. Venkat TL (talk) 12:36, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

@Venkat TL: That is not how it works in practice. In practice, we go by nominations rather than DYK credits. If a nominator makes more than five nominations but some of them were failed or are still open (meaning they had five or less successful DYKs), we still usually require them to do a QPQ. To err on the side of caution I would highly suggest that you do a QPQ just to be sure. In any case, as soon as you get another DYK nomination you will need to do a QPQ moving forward anyway. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 12:42, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
Please update the rule before enforcing it. What if my other DYKs are rejected and I remain at 4 DYKs forever? Venkat TL (talk) 12:43, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
I will wait to hear from a reviewer. If he insists will do. Venkat TL (talk) 12:45, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
As I mentioned earlier, I would suggest you do a QPQ just to be on the safe side. From experience, nominators in the past who have less than five successful DYK credits but have more than five nominations are still asked to do QPQs. I'm not sure if it's reviewers misinterpreting the rules or not, but that's just how the way things go. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 12:45, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
Well what is preventing you to update the rules to reflect this. I will follow the community consensus. Not individual whims. Venkat TL (talk) 12:50, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
Symbol adding does not need to be associated with a full review. Adding the symbol merely states that an issue exists, regardless if a full review is done or not. The wording in the instructions says "DYK eligibility requires that an issue be addressed" without mention of if a full review needs to be done or not. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 16:27, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
I dont know. I find its addition by you confusing, it will discourage reviewers from reviewing the page. The DYK will stay idle and then you will say it is too late and close it, claiming uninvolved reviewer. In future you should either review the DYK or stay away from it. I have added DYK review symbol, hopefully someone reviews it soon. You cannot adjudicate on the eligibility without reviewing it. It is understood. Again if you want the rule to say something, propose it and get community consensus. Please do not enforce your own reading of the WP:DYKRULESVenkat TL (talk) 16:32, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
I have never seen a DYK remain idle because of an issues template. Someone can come along and just point out issues whenever they want and I see it frequently. I wouldn't say its Narutolovehinata's own reading when its been this way for as long as I can think of. SL93 (talk) 17:29, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
@SL93 at least 3-4 of my DYKs have been closed this way. Venkat TL (talk) 17:57, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
Did you attempt to fix the issues? SL93 (talk) 18:12, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
In the last case, I did not even get a chance. Naruto first made "a comment without reviewing" then no one else reveiwed, then Naruto closed it claiming too many days have passed. Article was expanded to thrice its size and re-written in that period. I am seeing a repeat of past DYKs which is why I posted here. Venkat TL (talk) 18:32, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
Are you referring to the Hijab nomination? I did not do "a comment without reviewing", that nomination already received a review and was then marked for closure due to outstanding issues. There is also nothing in the DYK rules against multiple editors commenting on a nomination, or even commenters being required to review a nomination. Editors are always free to comment on nominations they have not reviewed, whether to point out issues that the reviewer missed, disagreeing with the reviewer, or even addressing concerns they have raised.
As for "too many days have passed", the nomination was open for almost a month after its initial review, which was plenty of time for article issues to be addressed. Since they were not addressed, the nomination was failed. It was explained to you by other editors at WT:DYK that once a review has begun, it is expected that any article issues raised must be addressed within a reasonable timeframe, but such fixes did not appear forthcoming even after several weeks. The article had too many unresolved issues, and despite being given ample time to fix them, they were not addressed. Even had the article stabilized, the article had tone issues and they were not resolved despite editor concerns being expressed on the talk page and despite being given plenty of time for them to be fixed. Indeed, when the neutrality concerns were raised in the WT:DYK discussion about that nomination, you did not not even acknowledge that such concerns had been raised or addressed them. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 19:06, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
I agree with you on this one. After a certain amount of time passes and the nominator is still actively editing, I wonder why that editor doesn't work on fixing the issues that were raised. I'm not sure of why there is a need to blame the closer after other editors have chimed in on the problems. SL93 (talk) 19:10, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
The issue was, the article is not stable. I said wait a few weeks. (what else am I supposed to do? tell everyone to stop editing?) After one month the article became stable. The issues were already resolved. Should have been reviewed, but instead Naruto despite being involved went ahead and closed it, claiming it is old. An admin also pointed this Invovled-Close. I asked Naruto to undo the close to allow the article to be reviewed, he would not budge despite multiple requests by me and another page contributors. Others would not interfere. His ego won, Misplaced Pages lost. Venkat TL (talk) 19:21, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
I disagree. From what I see, the tone issues would have remained and those alone were brought up a while back. SL93 (talk) 19:27, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
Is that enough reason to not give the article a fair chance in the review process? I would have happily agreed with the close if a proper review was done and the page contributors were not able to fix it. But Naruto did not even allow that to happen. Ego. Venkat TL (talk) 19:31, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
As mentioned multiple times by multiple editors in the WT:DYK discussion, the nomination did receive a proper review. All the DYK criteria were checked and Sammi felt that the article needed work. Later on, she followed up with comments that the article was not suitable for DYK owing to stability issues, a point she reiterated weeks later when she noted that the article had yet to stabilize despite being given plenty of time to do so. What could have been done, in my opinion, is that while waiting for the article to stabilize, the tone issues could have been addressed in the meantime, so that once those were resolved, the article would have had a better chance of passing once it had stabilized. Instead, it was the instability and the outstanding tone issues that led to the article being failed. Article tone issues by themselves would have been enough to fail the nomination (indeed, several DYK nominations have been failed in the past for that very reason), the article being unstable even one month later did not help either. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 19:35, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Venkat, I already apologized for closing that nomination out of process and promised not to do it again. I was actually considering unclosing it; however I decided against it after multiple editors noted that, despite the close technically being out of process, they would have closed it the same way. That is, if someone else took a look at the nomination, they would have also closed it due to article issues. In addition, it wasn't only stability issues that led me to close the nomination. The article also had tone and NPOV issues, all of which had been raised on the article's talk page, but which had not been addressed despite multiple comments. Indeed, I had raised with you the article's tone issues at the WT:DYK discussion, but you did not acknowledge them at all. Had there been at least efforts to address the tone or at least an acknowledgement that tone issues existed and would need to be addressed, I would have happily unclosed the nomination. Finally, multiple editors, even those that had noted that my close was out-of-procedure, agreed that the article was not in fact stable and agreed that Sammi's original review and comments about stability were proper, and that they too would have failed the nomination had I not been the one to do so. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 19:29, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
Others claimed that your comments (that you dont consider a review) was a review. And ironically did not oppose your closure too. Look whatever others said or did not say, at the end of the day, it was your call to close and your call to not undo the close. For a moment, I thought of reverting your close but then others would have called it edit warring and what not. There is a reason why a closer is expected to be uninvolved. Venkat TL (talk) 19:37, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

DYK preps

I have filled the majority of the hook sets that are currently in the preps and queues. It frustrates me and that means that none of the hooks I nominated or reviewed can be promoted unless I ping someone to promote them for me. Do you have any ideas on how to receive some help? SL93 (talk) 16:18, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

I really don't know. We're really short on hands and Leeky can't do all promotions by herself given that she too has reviewed/commented on other noms. I think the best thing we can hope for is more people participating in prep building, but it's largely a thankless task and I think that discourages more people from participating. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 16:25, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
That does seem to be the case. Even theleekycauldron shouldn't have to do it all as well or most of it. Sigh. SL93 (talk) 16:29, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
