The untitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film is an upcoming American computer-animated superhero film based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. It is the seventh theatrical Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, as well as both the second reboot of the series, and to be animated following 2007's TMNT. It is scheduled to be released in the United States on August 4, 2023, by Paramount Pictures.

"As a lifelong fan of Ninja Turtles, weirdly the 'Teenage' part of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was always the part that stuck out to me the most. And as someone who loves teenage movies, and who’s made a lot of teenage movies, and who literally got their start in their entire profession by writing a teenage movie, the idea of the kind of honing in on that element was really exciting to us. I mean, not disregarding the rest, but really using that as kind of a jumping-off point for the film."

 — Seth Rogen's inteview from Collider on his take of the franchise, by emphasising the teenage aspect.

On June 30, 2020, it was reported that Nickelodeon Animation Studio was developing a computer-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film for Paramount, marking the studio's first CG-theatrical production. Jeff Rowe, best known for co-directing Sony Pictures Animation's The Mitchells vs. the Machines, is set to direct the film, with Brendan O'Brien writing the screenplay. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver will produce the film through their company, Point Grey Pictures, whom previously worked with O'Brien on Neighbors and its sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. Brian Robbins, the president of Nickelodeon, said that "adding Seth, Evan and James’ genius to the humor and action that’s already an integral part of TMNT is going to make this a next-level reinvention of the property". Rowe said that it is an "absolute pleasure" to direct the film, having been a fan of the franchise since childhood. On August 4, 2020, while promoting for his film An American Pickle, Rogen said that the film will both feature elements from the franchise, of which he's been a lifelong fan, and "kind of hone in on" to elements from his previous teenager-centered movies.

In June 2021, Rogen revealed a teaser image through his Twitter page, which contains school notes written by Leonardo, the movie's original release date and details within the image. Later in October of that year, the film's working title was later revealed to be called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Next Chapter. In February 2022, concept art was released featuring a first-look at the designs of the titular team.

Casting

For the first time in the franchise's history, Rogen revealed that all four turtles will be voiced by actual teenagers, as opposed to adult actors, in order to keep the authenticity of the teenage element to the film.

Animation

Work on the film's animation had already begun by September 2021. Animation services will be provided by Mikros Image. The film features a 2D-style CG animation similar to Sony Pictures Animation's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and inspired by sketch drawings Rowe drew on his school notebook as a teenager.

Release

The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on August 4, 2023, by Paramount Pictures, having been pushed up a week early from its original release date of August 11, 2023.

Future

In June 2022, Robbins revealed that the reboot is the first installment of a potential franchise, after being impressed by Rogen's and Goldberg's love of the series.
