Steven "Ste" Hay was a fictional character in long-running Channel 4 British television soap opera Hollyoaks. He is played by actor Kieron Richardson.

Character history

Ste pressured Amy Barnes into sleeping with him in the back of a car in the woods. After Amy refused to sleep with him again he dumped her and along with Wayne, and Michaela bullied her. Ste and Wayne made friends with Josh Ashworth and Fletch to get closer to Josh's sister Hannah, but she was never around when they came to the Ashworth home.

Ste and Wayne then started bullying Nicole Owen because of her brother Sam being a rapist. They terrorised her and Ste told her that they were messing and asked her to meet him in the park. Once there they got her drunk and made a pass at her. Nicole however shouted at them and they left her on the floor crying. This made Nicole's mother, Carrie, realise that the family needed to leave the village and Owen family (minus Russ Owen) left the show for good.

Ste then made up with Amy Barnes, who was pregnant (but Ste was not the father) and looking for a distraction, so they then went joyriding with Michaela (who was fighting Amy for Ste's attention). They then went joyriding again but this time with Josh and Fletch, who Ste had threatened with a beating if they didn't get in the car.

Ste wanted to teach Josh and Fletch a lesson as he thought that they didn't believe he was a good driver. To make his point Ste started speeding and swerving on the road but he ended up crashing the car. Amy was injured in the crash but pulled through. Whilst she was unconscious Ste fled the scene and threatened to kill Josh, Fletch and Michaela if they grassed him to the police.

Fletch was brave enough to give Ste's name to the police (against Josh's advice) and the officer radioed for another officer to get Ste's address from his school. Josh and Fletch were then arrested and spent the night in a cell, whilst Micheala went with Amy to the hospital.

Days after Amy, Micheala, Josh and Fletch were charged with joyriding and sentenced to comunity service, Josh and Fletch saw Ste hidding out in the village. Fletch was angry at Ste for leaving Amy, who could have died, and started attacking Ste. Ste almost got the upper hand on Fletch but Michaela's brother John-Paul saw the fight and pushed Ste off Fletch, whilst Josh managed to to call over PC Calvin Valentine who was patroling in the village.

John-Paul gave Ste over to Calvin, and Josh and Fletch explained the situation to Calvin and Ste tried to give a false name to the officer but he radioed in to the police station and asked if there was warrant out of Ste Hay's arrest. When he was told there was a warrant for Ste's arrest he took him in for questioning.

It would now appear that Ste has left the show, and has assumably gone to prison.
