Finding a source
Tips for finding a source yourself
Main page: WP:Find your source- Send a request to the author(s) of research papers for a copy of their paper by email.
- Check what sources are available to you in The Misplaced Pages Library – editors active for at least six months with over 500 edits, at least 10 of them in the last month, and with no active blocks have immediate access to the Misplaced Pages Library Bundle.
- Available databases in the bundle include: Gale, EBSCO, JSTOR, Oxford and ProQuest
- Consider applying for access to additional Misplaced Pages Library sources at The Misplaced Pages Library Card Platform.
- Additional databases include: Newspapers.com, NewspaperARCHIVE.com, Project MUSE, Taylor & Francis and much more.
- Search for periodical titles in the Misplaced Pages Library database index at The Misplaced Pages Library/A–Z.
- Check on Google Books, or your local library or national library may be able to obtain it through an interlibrary loan or subscription.
- Search Google Scholar for archived copies of journals in institutional repositories.
- Check whether your alma mater's library offers electronic document delivery services for alumni, if applicable.
- If the article is paywalled, a browser extension may bypass the paywall. Try Unpaywall for academic journals or Bypass Paywalls Clean (Firefox, Chrome) for news websites.
Note that sites like Library Genesis (LibGen) and Sci-Hub offer direct, free access to a large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Misplaced Pages community endorses them.
Making a request
- A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work.
- All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
- We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright. Please ask for specific pages that relate to the article(s) you need them for.
- You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page.
- To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences.
- Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc.
- Indicate which Misplaced Pages articles are being improved.
- Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
- Filled requests are archived.
- Requests unfilled after three months will be archived.

Fulfilling a request
- Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests.
- Indicate which part or parts of the request is being handled so others do not duplicate your work.
- Notify (mention) the requester using
{{ping|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}
. - You can:
- point to a pre-existing electronic document by giving its URL ( http://... )
- share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service, provided it is legal
- upload out of copyright works to Wikimedia Commons and/ or Wikisource (but be careful that this does not breach your own institution's policies)
- email a link or plain text to a requester using the Special:EmailUser feature but for attachments, you need to ask them to mail you first so you can reply.
Copyright tips:
- Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
- Share content in a limited manner that is targeted at as few individuals as possible to achieve a specific improvement on Misplaced Pages. All content is shared under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose in order to conduct research about topics on Misplaced Pages and/or to improve Misplaced Pages content.
- Share copies privately rather than with a publicly accessible link whenever possible. Copyrighted articles from print publications or copies obtained through online databases should not be uploaded for unrestricted distribution via open websites. Preferably, do not share login access codes for entire websites; rather, share only an individual copy of a resource.
- Remember that you take on the individual risk when sharing content, and act in a way that is comfortable and safe for you. Individual editors are solely responsible for sharing copyrighted content and assume all legal risks.

NRL Test and Evaluation Report 109, or any information on AN/SPS-48B.
- Grady, D. F.; Dahl, W. D.; Orsino, R.J. (Feb 1970), "AN/SPS-48B Operational Program Baseline Tests", NRL Test and Evaluation Report 109, Naval Research Laboratory
For AN/SPS-48, the AN/SPS-48B is in this odd spot where there's a bunch of references to it *existing* on things, but nobody ever actually stops to say what it was or what the changes were. This is probably something where there's one copy sitting in some filing cabinet in the bowels of the U.S. Government, but anything helps if y'all can get ahold of something useful.

For List of commanders of the British 7th Armoured Division and 7th Armoured Division (United Kingdom)
I enquired with Google, and they will not provide a full preview of The Tank and these issues. This version on Google Books has multiple issues, and I am not sure which ones these come from.
The first article is entitled "The Seventh Armoured Division" ("The 7th Armoured Division" on the contents page) and is between page 205–209. This one discusses the disbanding of the division and its wartime service. The articles require a good source on when the division disbanded in 1947/48, and hopefully this article will provide the date or period this occurred.
The second article, which may just be called "The Fifth", discusses the reformation of the division and verifies that its new commanding officer was Miller (I have been unable to verify his command via the usual sources). That information is on page 236, but I cannot tell what month or year they are referencing.
Can anyone access this journal and either: provide a copy of the relevant articles; verify and provide the information on the cited pages; or, update the above articles with information from the relevant issues?EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 16:55, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

Since we're still waiting on the Bonmariage source, can I get some help to try to solve a mystery? Kusma found this which might be the 1892 portrait of Dumont, Christie's supposedly sold in 2010. The Christie's page says it is confirmed in Dortu, volume 2 on pages 279 and 461, but Archive.org only has vols 4, 5, and 6. Google books hits on volume 2, but when you pull it up it is vol 1. Worldcat doesn't show any open access volumes. Christie's shows alternative verification in Tout l'œuvre peint de Toulouse-Lautrec, which is on Hathitrust, but locked, so cannot see p. 113 and Toulouse-Lautrec by G. Néret has no on-line version that I can find. Any chance someone can find Dortu, volume 2?

Vasily Katanyan's Memoirs, sourcing an image
- Katanyan, Vasily (1998). Воспоминания (in Russian). p. 128.
The photograph 1918 vmayakovsky-lbrik retouched.jpg is used in the article Lilya Brik. The metadata on Commons states that it was taken in 1918 and "appeared retouched in official Soviet publications" in the 1960s, but AFAICT this is insufficient to establish that the image is in the public domain in Russia or the United States. I am hoping that the book from which the photograph was sourced may have additional information. Therefore, if the photograph appears on page 128 but is described in neighboring pages, I request those pages as well.

Milwaukee Journal article on Forever Young, Forever Free
As I was taking care of old article drafts in my user subpages from yesterday evening till today's overnight (a process I'll resume soon enough), I approached the one for a little-seen 1975 South African family film called Forever Young, Forever Free (a.k.a. e'Lollipop). Back when I set up the draft in mid-July 2011, I left in a GNewspapers link to a Milwaukee Journal article from ca. 1976–78 mentioning U.S. distributor Universal's decision to shelve the film. That very link, news.google.com/newspapers?id=9lYaAAAAIBAJ&sjid=PSoEAAAAIBAJ&dq=forever-young-forever-free&pg=6179%2C1411996, is no longer around due to licensing issues; the current Journal-Sentinel team switched to a partnership with NewsLibrary by the late 2010s. (Not even Wayback has it preserved, to my dismay; why do such things tend to happen to me?)
Fourth of July tomorrow or not, I'd preferably like someone from Wisconsin or nearby to fetch the story from library microfilm/database or otherwise—en route to the last missing piece this article needs. (Bonus points if more material is unveiled.) With luck, we might aim for GA status sometime down the road.
Best wishes,
Slgrandson (How's my egg-throwing coleslaw?) 21:00, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

History, July 8
Hi guys. It looks like WP Library now has an awesomely comprehensive search engine across all my available libraries, such as EBSCO and friends, right? That's too good to be true, so does it work like it appears? Thanks to everybody involved.
1) Does anybody have the full contents of this article titled "THE STRUGGLE FOR THE SOUL OF FRONTIER BAPTISTS: THE ANTI-MISSION CONTROVERSY IN THE LOWER WABASH VALLEY"? This inquiry is for Isaac McCoy and possibly others: his associates (Johnston Lykins and Jotham Meeker), and their missions (Carey Mission and Pottawatomie Baptist Mission Building).
2) I'm looking for the Lexington Express article cited in "Seizure of Arms". I know 1800s newspapers like to change their names all the time, and I found one mention of "Lexington Weekly Tribune". The closest I can find to "Lexington Weekly Express" is this collection of 8 pages. And do you have this {{cite news| newspaper=Daily Missouri Democrat|date=March 18, 1856}} which is also related to the Arabia? That's all I can find on newspapers.com.
Thank you so very much. — Smuckola(talk) 02:44, 9 July 2023 (UTC)

And, more generally, are old copies of the newspaper (circa 1980s) archived anywhere?

For Katarina Bogdanović On the second source, neither the German or Serbian WP articles indicates a volume number. The Serbian article lists pages in the ref section, so I have shown those above. A search for the book produces nada for me except the locked google profile. There is a Scribd link to Part 1 and you can see from the 10 names listed in the table of content, she isn't one of them, which is why I am fairly certain she is in Part 2. Any help would be appreciated.

- I just found a reference that confirms my suspicion that the second source is in volume 2 and it says the chapter on Bogdanović is on pages 13–20. SusunW (talk) 17:51, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
2011/2012 issue of Animania (German manga magazine)
- "Blue Friend". Animania (in German). No. 12/2011-01/2012. Animagine. December 2011. p. 46.
For Blue Friend (manga). This review from the Animania 2011 end-of-the-year double issue is already cited in de:Blue Friend, which is where I got the material that's currently in the enwp article, but I have to assume that there's more. This would be very useful when expanding the reception section, and I would be very grateful for a scan or a clear photo of the page in question.

Khachaturian's Masquerade
- Classic CD. - Issues 44-56 / 1994 "Khachaturian makes no claims at profundity. Yet you'd have to be pretty hard hearted not to resist the charms of the Waltz from Masquerade, or the physical exhilaration of the "Sabre Dance" particularly when they are delivered..."
Dance Now - Volumes 8-9 - Page 36 / 1999 "The apparently armless woman who opens the piece is a vision of courage against the odds, with her bold red dress, her radiant smile and her loudly romantic Khachaturian waltz music..."Theatre Record - Volume 19, Issues 1-8 - Page 95 / 1999 "The opening image is of a woman in a red dress, centre stage, smiling as she hears a Khachaturian waltz. She seems to want to dance, but has no arms..."
For Masquerade (Khachaturian) (my draft)

First Mansion
Hello! I'm looking for a complete copy of this newspaper article ("First Mansion Is Leased: Others Get Leasehold on 12th and Washington Corner". Kansas City Star. November 18, 1923. p. 1F.). I can't find it on newspapers.com. It's intended to go into Johnston Lykins and maybe Kansas City, Missouri. Thank you! — Smuckola(talk) 00:57, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Smuckola: That was a somewhat annoying search as none of the phrases from the library's article description brought up a hit. But I ended up finding the article in the 12 December issue. I'm thinking that it may have been published too on Nov 18 but as filler for an early edition which would get pulled for other news, hence why the library thinks it was published then while newspapers.com has a different date. Meanderingbartender (talk) 14:40, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Meanderingbartender: Thank you for your kind attention but that's a different article about the same story, which I had already found. The library abstract describes a lot of elaboration upon the history and such.
- I'm also looking for the Lexington Express article cited within another article, "Seizure of Arms". Thank you! — Smuckola(talk) 19:02, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- I did a bit of searching but I had no luck. American pre-Civil War newspapers, as you already expressed, is a hodgepod of different titles, some lasting just a few issues. Have you looked the library of congress's newspaper site? The LoC records are great to see if a title did actually exist during a time that you are looking for it. Both the Express and the Democrat existed and would have published on those dates. You may want to check with KC public library. They may be willing to help. Tell them you are doing it for Misplaced Pages. Meanderingbartender (talk) 23:34, 12 July 2023 (UTC)

Flightglobal World Airline Directory archives for Lufthansa German Airlines, circa 1980, to check the airline's headquarters address
For Wikidata entry for Lufthansa
Dear editors,
I am trying to find what address Lufthansa was at in 1980. Previously Flightglobal had easy online access to PDF archives from previous decades, and I used online PDFs to find addresses of airlines. However it seems Flightglobal has yanked these, and not all of the PDFs were preserved by the wayback machine. I wonder if someone has access to Flightglobal and could peruse the World Airline Directory of that year, for airlines starting in "L," to find this info.

WAN-IFRA
- "WAN-IFRA WPT 2019" (PDF). World Press Trends 2019. WAN-IFRA.
For List of newspapers by circulation. The World Association of Newspapers (WAN-IFRA) publishes a worldwide newspaper circulation report, including the top selling newspapers, these are not public. The latest report that I have been able to find is the 2016 one (see article) which contains details on the top 20 such newspapers. While I located the 2019 one as well () this version does not contain circulation figures, though a headline "Average daily unit circulation print" indicates that it was perhaps contained separately, also further confirmed by this press release. But I have been unable to fully access these 2019 figures, if someone can help it would really help in updating the article.

American Historical Review
Is it possible for me to have an insight into these tree articles published in American Historical Review?

- @TheDiaboloBoy: I've sent the first two (July 1920 & October 1920) from JSTOR. I can't find the third one (January 1921). —Bruce1ee 14:02, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
Horn Book review on children's title
- "Review: 'Follow Me!'". The Horn Book Guide. Vol. 10. Spring 1999. p. 16. ISSN 1044-405X. Mentioned in Montney, Charles B., ed. (2001). "Roberts, Bethany". Children's Book Review Index 2000. Vol. 26. Gale Group. p. 421. ISBN 0-7876-3549-9. Retrieved 2023-07-16 – via Internet Archive.
Mentioned in Draft:Follow Me! (book); not available online. (Note the Guide part of the title, which distinguishes it from the parent magazine.) Needed to satisfy WP:THREE before this hits the AFC submission queue; perhaps a fellow Floridian or two could help me out here. (Part of my ongoing work on the bibliography of Connecticut children's author Bethany Roberts; see also this similar filing from several days back.)

For Draft:Ships of the Roman Empire. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 19:19, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hm, just realized this might be a whole book (is it?) instead of an article, and I can't very well ask someone to send me a pdf of an entire book (even if it were available). My goal, here, is to add another paragraph or two of good content to Draft:Ships of the Roman Empire § Navis oneraria, so if this source is a whole book, maybe if it has a "Foreword" or "Introduction", or even a "Conclusion" section, a couple of pages from one of those, from which a decent summary could be written to add to the Draft section would be ideal. Thanks again! Mathglot (talk) 19:29, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
