Song |
"Warning" is a single from, and the title track of, Green Day's 2000 album Warning:.
The lyrics of this song promote living without "warning".
Billie Joe Armstrong has said in interviews that the original concept was to create a song whose lyrics were made up of all signs and labels and, the idea grew from there.
The song did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100, although it appeared on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart. The single also made it into the Top 40 of the UK Singles Chart in the United Kingdom.
The guitar riff is adapted from the song "Picture Book" by The Kinks.
Track listing
- "Warning (album version)"
- "Scumbag"
- "I Don't Want to Know If You Are Lonely"
Music video
The music video, directed by Francis Lawrence, pushes the point across by showing a character who violates many ridiculous warnings in our society, such as:
- pulling the tag from his mattress,
- stretching out in underwear in front of one's window,
- putting shampoo in one's eyes,
- sticking ear swabs into the ear canal (Q-Tip boxes advise against this, as it could lead to "ear damage"),
- swallowing toothpaste,
- drinking spoiled milk,
- running with scissors,
- leaving toast in the toaster,
- looking directly at the sun,
- leaving the house when the siren's sounding,
- driving with one's knees while holding a cellphone and a cup of coffee,
- eating by the swimming pool then going swimming,
- eating food that has fallen to the ground,
- ignoring the "no running" sign and running around the pool,
- operating machinery under the influence of cold medication,
- saying to a co-worker "nice ass",
- leaving the car open and with the key in the ignition,
- crossing a police line, and subsequently getting shot at,
- looking at food when it's in the microwave,
- eating food with oily unclean hands.
- running in the middle of the street at night and while wearing black,
- accepting candy from a stranger,
- littering
- eating raw meat,
- looking directly into a TV set,
- not changing his underwear
