Serzh Azati Sargsyan (Armenian Սերժ Ազատի Սարգսյան, born on June 30, 1954 in Stepanakert, Nagorno-Karabakh, is the current Prime Minister of Armenia. He was officially approved on 4 April 2007 (before that, he served only as acting PM from 26 March 2007 onwards). Before his term as PM, he was Defense Minister of Armenia and Chairman of its National Security Council.

- 1976: Graduated from Yerevan State University
- 1975–1979: Worked as a turner at Yerevan's electro-technical factory
- 1979–1988: Chief of state department, first secretary. Stepanakert Municipal Committee's Propaganda and Agitation chief of department. Deputy Chief of the Nagorno Karabakh Regional Committee.
- 1989–1993: The leader of The Committee of Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army. Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
- 1993–1995: Republic of Armenia's Defense Minister
- 1996–1999: Republic of Armenia's National Security Minister
- 1999–2000: Chief of President's Apparatus and National Security Council
- 2000–2007 Republic of Armenia's Defense Minister
- 2007–present: Prime Minister of Armenia
Other details
Serzh Sargsyan was the organizer of many battles in the Nagorno-Karabakh war. He is considered to be one of the founders of Nagorno-Karabakh's and Armenian Military Forces. Currently, he is viewed as the strongest contender for the post of the President of Armenia in the upcoming elections.
He is married and has two children.
Sargsyan has a vast personal fortune, primarily originating from his near monopoly on the import of petroleum to Armenia. The monopoly is not official, but due to his position he is able to maintain it.
Other transcriptions of his given name are Serge and Serj, of the name Sarkissian, Sarkisyan, Sarkissyan, the transliteration is Serž Azati Sargsyan.
