On 6 October 2024, a day before the first anniversary of the October 7th Hamas attack on Israel, a gunman carried out a shooting and stabbing attack in Beersheba's central station. Eleven Israelis were wounded and one was killed. The gunman was killed by Israeli security forces.

Background

Israel's national security council warned that leading up to the first anniversary of Hamas' 7 October 2023 attack on Israel, there is a greater risk of attacks against Israelis and Jews around the world. The Department of Homeland Security and National Counterterrorism Center and FBI warned of "violent extremism" and higher risk of hate crimes. In September 2024, a Pakistani citizen was arrested by Canada for planning a shooting in New York City against the city's Jewish community.
