Armada Music
Armada Music is an independent record label based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, with additional offices in New York City and London. It was founded on June 1, 2003 by DJ and producer Armin van Buuren, music executive Maykel Piron, and artist manager David Lewis. The label's name is derived from the first two letters of the founders' first names. The label specializes in electronic dance music (EDM) and manages a variety of sub-labels that include genres such as trance, house, and progressive house.
Growth and Development
Armada Music received the "Best Global Record Label" award 6 times at the International Dance Music Awards (IDMA). Its sub-labels cater to different facets of electronic music, each with its own focus:
- Armind: A trance-focused sub-label known for releasing tracks by Armin van Buuren and other trance artists.
- A State of Trance (ASOT): A label associated with van Buuren’s radio show, specializing in trance and progressive music.
- Armada Deep: A label that emphasizes deep house and melodic house releases.
- Armada Captivating: This sub-label focuses on progressive and electro house music.
- Armada Electronic Elements: This sub-label focuses on deep, melodic house and techno music .
Artists and Releases
Armada Music has worked with a wide range of artists. Aside from Armin van Buuren, the label has been home to artists such as Armin van Buuren, ARTY, D.O.D, Eelke Kleijn, Jan Blomqvist, Joris Voorn, KI/KI, Lilly Palmer, Loud Luxury, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, THEMBA and Yulia Niko. One of the label’s most notable releases is Lost Frequencies’ "Are You With Me," a remix of American country singer Easton Corbin which topped the charts in several countries and is in Spotify’s ‘Billion Club’ .
Initiatives and Subsidiaries
BEAT Music Fund
In 2022, Armada Music launched the BEAT Music Fund. The fund focusses specifically on the acquisition of music rights in the electronic dance music industry. The initiative was created to help emerging talent gain traction in a competitive industry by offering both financial assistance and acquiring musical rights from labels and publishers .
Armada Music Publishing
Armada Music Publishing, the publishing arm of Armada Music Group, was established after BEAT Music Fund acquired Amsterdam-based music publisher Cloud 9. Specializing in dance music, the company manages publishing rights for artists, songwriters, and producers, operating six recording studios for writing camps and sessions .
Headquartered in Amsterdam with a presence in New York, London, and Belgium (via TousEnsemble Publishing), Armada leverages a global network of sub-publishing partners for rights management and creative exploitation. Armada Music Publishing’s roster includes electronic music artists and producers including Armin van Buuren, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, NERVO and Reinier Zonneveld, alongside songwriters like Ki Fitzgerald and bands such as Altin Gün .
