Overview
The **Hangzhou International Sports Center Stadium** is a 60,000-seat football-specific stadium under construction in Hangzhou’s Yuhang District, part of the city’s Future Science and Technology Cultural District. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA), it is the centerpiece of a CN¥9.58 billion sports complex that includes an 18,000-seat indoor arena and a 3,000-seat aquatics center. Construction began in October 2023 and is projected to finish by April 2027.
Design and Architecture
The stadium’s design draws inspiration from **Hangzhou’s terraced tea fields**, featuring horizontal louvres that create a layered, geological appearance. From a distance, the façade appears transparent, blending indoor and outdoor spaces, while up close, it showcases solidity through angled slats. Key features include: - **FIFA-compliant sightlines**: All seats are positioned within 90 meters of the pitch, ensuring unobstructed views. - **multi-tiered roof**: A saddle-shaped elliptical roof with transparent sections for natural lighting - **Integrated terraces**: Outdoor platforms with food/beverage outlets offering panoramic city views.
The complex connects to a 45,000 m² shared podium housing training facilities, offices, shops, and restaurants.
Facilities
The stadium is part of a "**one stadium, two pavilions**" complex: 1. **60,000-seat football stadium**: First FIFA-standard professional football venue in Hangzhou without an athletics track. **18,000-seat indoor arena**: Hosts basketball, concerts, and cultural events. **3,000-seat aquatics center**: Includes two 50m pools for competitions and training.
Outdoor amenities include jogging tracks, children’s play areas, and five-a-side football pitches.
