- Draco Malfoy, Harry's nemesis at Hogwarts. Whom is a death eater (found out in book six, close to the end).
- Lucius Malfoy, his father, a Death Eater.
- Narcissa Malfoy, nÊe Black, Draco's mother and Lucius's wife, whose sympathies lie with those of Lucius and Draco.
Another member of the family, apparently dead before the series began, was Abraxas Malfoy, Lucius's father.

"Malfoy" is derived from Old French "mal foi" or "mal foy", which means "bad faith", or "bad trust". The Old French mal foy itself is derived from Latin mala fide, which as a judicial term means intentional mischief, ill will or evil intentions.
