MaraBeth Jordan, a group member at the time, was involved in a highly publicized affair with Michael English in 1994. This affair lost First Call a record deal and MaraBeth Jordan left the group.
Dick Tunney, acted as the arranger and producer for many of the groups projects. Melodie left the group to make way for MaraBeth to join it's ranks. After the controversy involving the affair between MaraBeth and Michael English in 1994, Melodie returned to the group for a short period to try and reduce damage to the groups image. She also lent her vocals to several projects the group was involved in. In late 1994 the group acted as the backup group for David L Cook's Inspirational single, "When Heaven is My Home." The song was written and produced for Cook by Dick Tunney.
First Call was a recipient of GMA Dove Awards in the "Group of the Year" category for both 1988 and 1989. They also have multiple Grammy-nominations.
