Each week a Translation of the Week will be picked using this page. This is an article from the Spanish Misplaced Pages, ideally one which has reached feature article status (es:Misplaced Pages:Artículos destacados), but at least one which we believe to be solid, accurate, and not contain copyright issues, and which either has no article or a basic stub page on the English wikipedia. The aim is, through widespread co-operative translation, to have by the end of the week a featured-standard article, or at least one of high quality, on a subject which may not have otherwise have been addressed on the English Misplaced Pages.
The project aims to fill gaps in Misplaced Pages, to give users a focus and to give us all something to be proud of. Anyone can nominate an article and can vote for the nominated articles. Every Sunday, the votes are tallied, and the winner will be promoted for a week to potential contributors.
Anyone no matter what their Spanish or English ability is welcome to lend a hand. Remember, be bold in your translations. If your written English is not perfect, someone will be more than willing to fix up any mistakes that you may make. And as always, if you see a mistake in the article that is being translated, don't be afraid to correct it after checking the relevant talk pages for any relevant information. As for any Misplaced Pages article, expansion of the article with appropriate material is also welcome.

Translating an article
Make sure the following is at the top of the article being translated:
{{SpanTransWeek}} ] ]
And make sure this is at the top of its talk page if appropriate:
{{FeaturedElsewhere}} ] ----
Finally, the original article should be wikilinked back to us:
]
Replacing "Título" with the actual title, of course.
Once the article is satisfactorily translated, proof-read, wikified and adapted to the English Misplaced Pages, then {{SpanTransWeek}} ] should be removed, and, if appropriate, the article should be nominated as a featured article.
Add a references section, citing the Spanish Misplaced Pages article as a source. An example is shown below:
- This article draws heavily on the corresponding article in the Spanish-language Misplaced Pages, which was accessed in the version of June 20, 2005.
Note that the Spanish[REDACTED] has different standards, so we will have to improve the articles and defend them if they are to become featured here. In particular, we will almost always need a better set of citations.

Selecting the next Translation of the Week
The next winner will be selected on Sunday, July 10, 18h GMT.
Voting
Please vote for as many of the following candidates as you like. Please add only support votes. Opposing votes will not affect the result, as the winner is simply the one with the most support votes (see Approval voting).
Only registered users should vote. Any Wikipedian can vote on this page. You do not have to speak Spanish.
To enter your votes, simply edit the appropriate sections by just inserting a new line with "# ~~~~". This will add your username and a time stamp in a new numbered list item.
Tie-breakers
In case of a tie, voting will be extended for 24 hours. If there is still a tie, the candidate that was nominated first wins.
Nominations
New nominations can be made at any time and should be added at the end of this page. Giving reasons as to why an article should become the esTotW may assist others in casting their vote.
A nomination will be removed and added to the main page for requested translations into English if it does not receive at least 2 votes per week.

This was an artículo destacado last month. The English article on this important sculpture is very short and could need some expansion.

New article, just a few days old, comprehensive. --Fenice 28 June 2005 10:24 (UTC)
- We already have a fairly substantial article; how much overlap is there with the Spanish one?gadfium 28 June 2005 20:08 (UTC)
- The Spanish one is about five times longer, and it distinguishes regions. It's very detailed.--Fenice 4 July 2005 06:12 (UTC)

The English article on the African elephant is a stub.--Fenice 5 July 2005 20:09 (UTC)
- Our information is spread across three articles, elephant, Loxodonta (which African Elephant redirects to) and Savannah Elephant. The last of these would be the appropriate one, not the one on the genus. It doesn't look like the Spanish article is quite up to date; it doesn't distinguish between the two species of African elephants. This might make it difficult to translate without introducing inaccuracies into the English articles.-gadfium 5 July 2005 21:27 (UTC)

- Arturo Prat is a Chilean war hero. The English article is not much more than a stub, while the corresponding Spanish article is well developed. — J3ff 8 July 2005 05:14 (UTC)
