Tim Peterson

Actually, you're wrong about Peterson. Peterson joined the PC caucus officially as of June 6, 2007, as soon as he won the nomination. It's on his bio on the Legislative Assembly website. Yes, the Assembly had prorogued by then, but it hadn't been officially dissolved yet. Therefore, he was a member of PC caucus -- he even attended caucus meetings.The Invisible Man 03:36, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Template: TBayRadio

If you're going to change it to "Radio stations in Thunder Bay District", then you'll have to add radio stations for Nipigon, Greenstone, Marathon, etc. There are probably too many of them. Grouping them by CD might work in Southern Ontario, but the north is too big for it to be efficient. vıdıoman (talk • contribs) 23:23, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Electoral district infobox

Hey Bearcat. I decided to create a new infobox that handles all federal and provincial electoral districts, and am now looking for some feedback. My test template is temporarily named Canada electoral district, and a test page using it is here. Mindmatrix 19:23, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Glad you like it. It's my intention that this new infobox will replace all current electoral district infoboxes; it can handle districts that are just federal, just provincial, or both. (The key to it is the fed-status and prov-status fields, which determine whether to display federal or provincial sections. It currently assumes most of the other fields exist, but I'll work on that next.)

Yes, I had planned on adding a "riding dissolved" type field. I assume listing the year is sufficient, and the text can provide greater precision. Good point about not displaying the MLA info for defunct ridings - I hadn't thought of that at all. I'll add it in. Lorne Calvert/Brad Wall

Hey, I'm a member of the NDP just like you and I was vastly upset that Saskatchewan would elect a fascist party like the Saskatchewan Party into power. The reason I changed it is yes, Lorne Calvert will remain premier to 2-3 weeks but that still means that he will become Leader of Opposition in 2007, it pained me to edit it and I did cry a little. Yeah, I knew it wasn't politically motivated, I was just surprised to find that you were a member of the NDP, but I usually end up jumping the gun on editing election pages. I figure it's better for the Saskatchewan NDP to lose this election and then come time for the next election the people of Saskatchewan will be begging for the NDP to come back, and the NDP will be stronger and run a better campaign. Congratulations, Alice, for being able to come out of semi-retirement. Benjiboi, on the other hand, has gained an anonymous IP stalker who seems to be more Catholic than the Pope and who has a hard-on for the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. We seem to have a sort of Yin and Yang thing going on here, which helps both to keep us in balance and on our toes <bright smiles all around>. Harry Potter and his homosexual teacher Albus Dumbledore got outed this month, and was immediately adopted by our project. The international brouhaha surrounding this disclosure reached all the way to Wikiland, and his article was briefly locked due to homophobic vandalism (as well as well meaning editors who just couldn't believe that that nice man could possibly be gay). This is a wonderful article to add to your watchlist, and will surely give you hours of reverting fun on cold winter days. "My Fellow Americans" On a more serious note, Fireplace has suggested a new article series about LGBT rights in the United States, state by state. This ambitious topic will surely require many editors and a lot of research, but has the potential to add further prestige to our already prestigious project. Same name, same sexuality: a riddle for the ages Francis Bacon (not the new gay one, but the old gay one ... though they're actually both dead, now that I think about it) has also aroused passions here on Misplaced Pages, with editors opposing his sexuality being disclosed in his biography. The always helpful Haiduc has thoughtfully provided any number of sources, but it is slow going getting his point across. Anyone want to lend a hand? Beat writer arouses Irish guy And speaking of passions, Jack Kerouac has inflamed the senses once again with editors, including administrator Irishguy, mounting a spirited defense to keep him as heterosexual as possible for Misplaced Pages purposes. Why? I don't know. Perhaps some of you can drop by the talk page and ask your questions there. I feel certain a stimulating debate will ensue that will be enjoyed by all. Love those Texas Longhorns Did you know that one of our Featured articles, Lawrence v. Texas, lost its shiny gold star? That was a shocker. It has been suggested that we turn our attention to it in an effort to restore it to its former glory. I took a peek, and it does need our help badly. For our American editors, it would seem almost a civic duty to edit it (not that I'm hinting....). Point and Counterpoint Though it was far too intellectual a debate for a mere cruise director like myself to take part in, Intersexuality was certainly a hot topic a week or two ago. The thrust of the debate was over inclusion in our project. Lots of good editors had lots of good opinions. For those too lazy to check out the discussion, we decided to leave it out for now. Drudgery on offer Peer review is, as always, short staffed and seemingly unloved. Radio templates by district - question

(link) I've made radio templates for Kenora and Rainy River districts, but Kenora has 39 communities, and navboxes can only handle 20 lists at a time (If you use the below field instead of a list to display information on the bottom); What should I do? Abandon this, remove communities with only repeaters, or make a separate First Nations or Kenora (Patricia Portion) lists? vıdıoman (talk • contribs) 18:06, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

There are too many first nations communities, I can't fit them all on one template, let alone combine the communities in Cochrane district. I might be able to fit them by ordering the communities by the NAN group they're in, and have the communities listed in a similar fashion as to how the GTA template is planned out, or do that with the 10 districts and list FN communities like the GTA template (though that will probably look awkward). vıdıoman (talk • contribs) 20:22, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Agree, those former provincial districts do need articles. All the more so as they were 'dual membership' districts (each district had an Assemblyperson (MLA) and a Councillor) - Those 16 districts produced 32 legislative members. GoodDay 19:13, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Bearcat. Help!

Because I didn’t first read Misplaced Pages’s policies (and because an equally foolish acquaintance told me it would be all right) I have done a stupid thing. I noticed that Misplaced Pages had several references to my writing, but no reference to me, as the author, so I went ahead and posted a couple of (neutral, I hope) lines of autobiography. This brief but ill-considered article has been somewhat wikified by other editors, but needless to say I have also been given the dreaded Conflict of Interest warning. Is there anything to be done? Is there any way the COI warning can be removed? Or am I forever doomed? Hanging my head in shame -- Eileen Kernaghan

With regard to the Canadian federal elections articles, these now have two templates at the bottom, thanks to your good work: the "federal elections" template and the "Federal Parliaments in Canada" template. In my view, the second is not appropriate because the article relates really only to the parliament formed as a result of the election, and not to any previous or subsequent parliaments. What think you? If you agree, I will suggest this on the Canadian Wikipedians' page, ask for your support, and if there is no objection, I will undertake the removal. I have now cleaned up the Canadian federal election, 1867 and subsequent election articles. It turns out that the Canadian parliaments template was embedded into the Canadian elections template. When I removed it, the 1st Canadian Parliament and subsequent articles now had only a table of elections, and not a table of parliaments, so I have fixed those articles, too. I may have been hasty about this, or bold, depending on one's perspective, so I would appreciate you keeping an eye on these articles. Thanks. Ground Zero | t 13:52, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Possible edit war beginning

Hi Bearcat. At the Teiaiagon article, we have a possible edit war beginning. Loganelm2001 have done an edit since you were there that was POV; in the process of verification, I edited good share of the contribution. However, since then the user has done additional edits. I have not yet checked if I can verify, but the user seems quite anti-Mississauga in tone. Since you're physically there where you may have resources, would you keep tabs on the article and ensure that user maintains the NPOV and verifiability, while curbing any possible edit wars? Hey... a faviour to ask. Could you please look in at CFML-FM? The article was moved to VF2448 as an editor claimed the call sign was changed to that designation. Anyway -- I've created Template:Rainy River Radio and Template:Kenora Radio, you can give them the once over. I'm still waiting on a reply about the First Nations radio stations. Grouping by station is something I thought of before but it doesn't really fit the norm. I guess there isn't much of an option, though. Another method I thought of was similar to Template:Global warming; All CIDE rebroadcasters are at 91.9, All CKWT rebroadcasters are either 89.9 or 90.1 with one exception, so we could use the format where there is a sub section to divide those and just list the cities and their call signs, that might be less confusing. 19 November

I created the article Hudson, Kenora District, Ontario, it's a community west of Sioux Lookout, and most references on Wiki were referring to that community, not the township in Tim.

Since we're using a new layout for the First Nations articles, I'll make it "Radio stations in First Nations communities in Northwestern Ontario" instead. Northeastern Ontario has less First Nations and I don't think it has broad FN radio networks like the NW, so NE FNs should be ok to go into district templates.

I removed First Nations from the Kenora, Rainy River, and Thunder Bay radio templates. Rainy River's template is down to just two lists, which makes it second smallest after Tim, but Tim has an odd layout. Should I leave it as it is or style it like Tim Radio? I was thinking of merging it with Kenora but Kenora is too big and that doesn't really fit in with the system we've got.

Hi Bearcat. Regarding your revert here, though I agree that Exclaim! is usually an acceptable source, in this case the link I removed is to a video that is not really informative at all and adds nothing to the article. List of Radio Stations

Hi Bearcat, it looks like that you've been busy lately. I still from time to time update some of the listing of radio stations across the country and the other day, I had deleted CKSO-FM at 101.1 in Greater Sudbury from the List of radio stations in Ontario, since that station has been defunct for more than a year now. I have added a few new stations to the list and here are the following:

• FM 101.7 CKJC, tourist information Greater Sudbury, Ontario. This station went on the air sometime this month (November 2007).

• FM 93.5 - CKXC, country music Kingston, Ontario

• FM 106.5 - CB??, CBC Radio One Brockville, Ontario (CRTC approval on November 22, 2007)

• FM 107.9 CHUC, classic hits Coburg, Ontario (This station is currently listed in the list of radio stations in Ontario, however, their old AM 1450 signal went off the air for good on November 7th, 2007).

Merges into Walden, Ontario

Seems fair enough. Under the same rationale, articles for neighbourhoods in the city proper such as Lo-Ellen, Donovan, etc. have little to no expansion potential beyond one- to two-line stubs. This is a tough call. Considering the current organization of the Neighbourhoods category template of breaking it down into the pre-existing communities prior to amalgamation, I would say either leave it as is (considering Wanup is pretty much a one-off) or, if consistency is more desired, move it into a "formerly unincorporated townships" (annexed into Greater Sudbury in 2001) article. --Scani (talk) 00:51, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

CFML

I first found this CFML call sign change on local radio discussion. forum I did a search on Google for VF2448 which brought up 3 references that stated a radio station from Burnaby is broadcasting at 107.9 with VF2448 as it's call sign. A quick search on Industry Canada reveals both CFML and VF2448 are used and owned by BCIT. CFML reveals its frequency is on 0.94 MHz, which doesn't make sense as CFML is a FM radio station and that frequency is used for international broadcasts. A search of VF2448 brings up a frequency of 107.9 MHz. I think the best way is to contact that radio station to see what it's real call signs are. --~Pikachu9000 07:15, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Regarding the election infoboxes

Bearcat, Here are the reason why I object to the usage of Template:Infobox Election and would prefer something alsong the lines of Template:Infobox ontario election or Template:Infobox canadian election:

1. Template:Infobox Election fits at least half the width of the page on a 15.4 screen and is probably a lot more on a lower resolution or smaller screen.
2. Template:Infobox Election is POV in the sense that it only lists the major parties before, on and after the election
   1. Therefore I am stating that Template:Infobox ontario election and Template:Infobox canadian election are much more NPOV as they state the basic facts of the elections, such as election date, when the writ was dropped, the number of campaign days, the number of seats contested, the imcumbent and their status (majority/minority), the result, and the registered parties in alphabetical order as to avoid singling out the "major" parties or singling out the "minor" parties; this way it avoids determining who is favoured to win as an election is often full of surprises and Misplaced Pages is not here to determine the results.

To be honest, it has nothing to do with ownership nor does my reaction have anything to do with the fact that I created the two alternative infoboxes. My point is that the infobox is way too cumbersome. A good infobox should be only between 20.5em and 22.5 em, without any horizontal growth or expansion, anything larger than 22.5em will not accommodate, nor will it cater to all the viewer or contributors, and it just seems that the infobox is overtaking the screen and the text which its not suppose to. Infobox are suppose to accompany the text as Harmony accompanies melody, and as such the infobox should not overtake the text just as the Harmony should never overtake the melody.  Avec nat...Wikipédia Prends Des Forces.  22:11, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Historical townships / municipalities

Hi. Further to our discussion about the former munis of Greater Sudbury, I noticed that you've redirected some other former municipal articles. Specifically, Aldborough Township, Ontario now redirects to West Elgin, Ontario. I was wondering if it wouldn't make more sense to redirect them to the article on the county - I did this with Dover Township, Ontario - the difference in that case is that the Kent County is a historical county whereas Elgin County is still around. However, the townships were usually surveyed at the same time and the history of the county is generally wrapped up in the townships. Each county could have a section for "original townships" (and redirects for those townships leading to that page) as well as a list of current municipalities. The advantage I guess would be consistency - in a case like Dover, the info in the stub wouldn't make it to the Chatham-Kent page, so the County page seems to be a good place to put it. I was thinking of doing something similar with the townships in Ontario County, Ontario. Thoughts? Blotto adrift (talk) 18:00, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

I've just moved about 140 articles out of cat:"Broadcasting stubs" to a more relevant or more specific stub. Heck, I even found a couple of stray US radio stations in that pile (which is what I'd gone looking for in the first place) so it was worth the trip. As I have free time over the next few days I'll see how much more precisely I can file some of these articles. For what it's worth, we're actually quite lacking in articles on radio stations in the Caribbean

Hi Bearcat! While looking for refs for 13 Engines, I noticed that the CBC Radio 3 bio is a copy including wikilinks, though I didn't see a backlink to[REDACTED] authorship. I noticed on your user page that there was a inside the cbc blog on your writing about the mother corp on[REDACTED] but I didn't see anything about your writing for the mother corp from wikipedia. Since it's almost entirely your authorship (I believe someone changed a were to a was along the way before it was copied to cbc), I'm kinda hoping you are getting pay from cbc to write their indie bios. I was tempted to put an external link on the article to radio3.cbc.ca/bands/13-Engines since it does have some singles on there but it's pretty weird to see the same prose on that page. List of radio stations in Ontario

Bearcat, I haven't really done anymore work on the List of Radio Stations in Ontario and may not be, unless there's a new radio station, format change...anything is possible. The last radio station I did was CFNP-FM 90.1 from Naicatchewenin, Ontario and I don't know what the company name is for that station, so I left the field blank. You're right it is a tedious job and it's hard to say when it will be all complete. Do you plan on doing all of the Canadian Provinces in the same format you did to Ontario? So hard to believe it's already the very last day of the year 2007 and we are going on 2008 in less than 24 hours and yes another year gone by! CKLM-FM

Lloydminster is a very weird and nearly unique situation — it's a city which has a provincial boundary running right through the middle of it. (And it's not two separate cities with the same name, either: it's a single city under biprovincial jurisdiction.) So I don't know how you could really make the determination that CKLM is located in Alberta, and only heard in Saskatchewan, considering that its city of license is located in both provinces simultaneously. 1. I don't get it. If these templates already exist for all provinces, why did you put all the effort into removing them from the Alberta MPs pages instead of adding them to the pages of MPs from other provinces?

2. It's not that I am unconcerned about other provinces, however, I only have so much time and effort to devote to WP and I draw the line at going through all 301 MPs and 199-odd Senators and adding a template to them. I did however add it to all Alberta MPs and Senators in the hope that this would spur other editors to follow suit for other regions. By taking the template off the Alberta pages you have undone that.

3. It has nothing to do with "ownership", I'm sorry if you read it that way. I just don't have the interest in expanding my workload to every single MP and Senator in Parliament. That being said, you are absolutely wrong to say it's my "responsibility" to do any work on here. It's a volunteer thing and I do only as much as I want and that's all. I hope that someone does work on Peter and Alexa, but do say it's my responsibility is presumptuous.

Thanks for your comments on the AfDs I've set up. My reading of WP:OUTCOMES has always been - and having re-read still is - that you need something extra, i.e. you must be the first woman, black, gay councillor elected or have had substantial national coverage because of your position. The only one I think there might be some doubt about is Margot James, and I don't think she was the first lesbian K&C councillor (and I've not found evidence one way or another). The category parameter of {{tl|Stub Category} is supposed to be the corresponding permanent category, not another stub category. When there is not a corresponding permanent category, standard practice is to either make category be the parent category of what would be permanent category if it existed or to simply omit the category parameter altogether. I see you have gone and made changes to a number of Canadian radio show articles all at one go, doing category changes from "Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio programs" to "CBC Radio One programs". In many cases this is fine, but the blanket change you seem to have done simply doesn't apply to all programs—specifically, to those programs that were broadcast prior to the introduction of the CBC Radio One network in 1997. While this may apply to some of the shows you have re-categorized (like The Irrelevant Show or Mr. Interesting's Guide to the Continental United States), this clearly does not apply to shows whose run ended prior to 1997, like Johnny Chase: Secret Agent of Space (1978 to 1981) or The Happy Gang (1937 to 1959!)

I don't know if there are categories for "CBC Radio" and "CBC Stereo" for shows prior to 1997, but perhaps there should be. (Keep in mind also that some shows were broadcast on both networks, such as Gilmour's Albums for example).

An edit summary would've saved some confusion when you removed the category "Communities within district municipalities..." from Brentwood Bay. Just a quick "category about to be deleted" would've saved a couple of unnecessary edits, as from the point of view of someone coming to the article (rather than the CfD) there was no apparent reason for the category to be removed from it. West Ferris

Hi, West Ferris is a former municipality, and as far as I can tell, that makes it inherently notable and therefore deserves an article on Misplaced Pages. • I think small community articles should remain so that they can be expanded. Murillo, Ontario doesn't have an article anymore, and the information that was removed when you created the redirect is hidden in its history. I don't see you creating those one or two articles listing all of the communities, you're just turning an entire article into a redirect without any prior discussion. You could at least merge the main points in that article into the article it's being redirected to. West Ferris and Murillo were both more than "This hole in the wall sucks ass. I'm not sure that it's the correct name for the category. A settlement in Canada has a defined meaning. For example Detah, Beaver Creek and Bathurst Inlet are all settlements but Cambridge Bay is not. Why does it need the word "Indian". Both Cambridge Bay and Ulukhaktok were legally settlements before they became hamlets in 1984 but neither has an Indian population. NL communities

Hi Bearcat; It's great to see others, such as myself, trying hard to organize the many varied communities in the province. I noticed the category Ghost Towns for some of the communities. Would it be possible to devise a set of categories that could better explain the status and circumstances of the many communities that exist and once existed in the province? These are only suggestions but it may shed some light on the reasons for the categories. Some communities were abandoned, others were resettled, and still others amalgamated with neighbouring much larger communities. Others were just summer fishing stations that were frequented in summer and dormant in winter. Then there are incorporated municipalities and un-incorporated municipalities. Yes, I agree its much easier to start from an orderly listing. Not sure about Round Harbour, as with many bays around the coast a lot of them had similar place names, I hesitate to guess how many Salmon Cove's there are. Maybe you could ask the originator of the article Wayne Ray! I guess my biggest pet-peeve with the communities is the list, I'm going to take a copy offline and work out an acceptable listing. Parker's Notch

The name of the article appears to be original reasearch. On the other hand the article might be useful as part of the NWT or Nunavut history articles or under a different name. I think the original creator may have been scared off though after the deletion of Parker's notch as nonsense. Using Google Earth with the boarders on and going to 65°26'6.47"N 110°31'51.91"W gives a possible notch. Then I looked at the last line of the deleted article above and checked out Victoria Island (Canada) and found there are two possible claimants for the notch. I assume that John Havelock Parker is the person referred to in this case. The book is valid but is not availabe at Google books. I've left a message at User talk:YK Times#Parker's Notch to see if he knows anything and I'll stick a copy in my sandbox just in case, along with a note for the creator. I like the recent change. I agree it makes the sub-titles more organized. There is still a large blank space though because of the info box. I am not sure how to fix that. It occurs right after "Wallaceburg History" and the Baldoon Settlement

Inquiry on the QINIQ page

I wanted to thank you for your feedback today and assistance with the content that I have added. I am new to Misplaced Pages and just getting the hang of it. I do have one issue. Someone deleted my content under QINIQ. I had the content in excellent shape and regretfully had reworked a lot of it without saving a back up. The person that removed it said something about me needing to getting permissions and warned of copyright bots. I find it incredible that after all this work and following the instructions and complying with everything you asked me to do that someone else would just go in and delete without any warning or opportunity to comply. American Musical Groups

Hi there. I notice you have been recategorising bands under Category:American musical groups. This is actually only meant to be a parent category, and should not be used to specifically categorise bands. I recently spent a huge amount of time emptying this category by finding more specific categories for the 5000+ articles listed there. Can a cool admin help a guy out? I want to add one sentence to the world of Misplaced Pages. But I can't. The sentence is factual, provable, (based on the New York Times for goodness sake) but I can't get it on.

Fact: Circumcision decreases a man's risk of getting HIV Fact: Circmcision INcreases a man's risk of getting herpes and chlamydia.

The article on "circumcision" mentions the term HIV probably 100 times (I'm not joking) and mentions "herpes" or "chlamydia" not Once.
