For proposed mergers, see WP:Proposed mergers.Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Misplaced Pages. For information on retitling files, categories, and other items, see § When not to use this page.
Before moving a page or requesting a move, please review the article titling policy and the guidelines on primary topics.
Any autoconfirmed user can move a page using the "Move" option in the editing toolbar; see how to move a page for more information. If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move; for example, a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. In such cases, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- A page should not be moved and a new move discussion should not be opened when there is already an open move request on a talk page. Instead, please participate in the open discussion.
- Unregistered and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are typically processed after seven days. If consensus supports the move at or after this time, a reviewer will perform it. If there is a consensus not to move the page, the request will be closed as "not moved." When consensus remains unclear, the request may be relisted to allow more time, or closed as "no consensus". See Misplaced Pages:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Misplaced Pages:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
When not to use this page
ShortcutsSeparate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Misplaced Pages:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Misplaced Pages:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming an image or other file – see Misplaced Pages:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space to article space – Unconfirmed users: add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the article. See Misplaced Pages:Articles for creation. Confirmed users: Move the page yourself. - Merging two articles – make a request at Misplaced Pages:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Splitting an article – make a request at Misplaced Pages:Proposed article splits, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Misplaced Pages:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Misplaced Pages:Move review process.
Undiscussed moves
ShortcutsAutoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no previous discussion about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
Uncontroversial proposals
Only list proposals here that are clearly uncontroversial but require administrator help to complete (for example, spelling and capitalization fixes). Do not list a proposed page move in this section if there is any possibility that it could be opposed by anyone. Please list new requests at the bottom of the list in this section and use {{subst:RMassist|Old page name|Requested name|Reason for move}} rather than copying previous entries. The template will automatically include your signature. No edits to the article's talk page are required. If you object to a proposal listed here, please re-list it in the #Incomplete and contested proposals section below.
- National College (paralal), Taliparamba → National College, Taliparamba — I have no clue what "paralal" means but it does not seem to be important to include in the article name. The college appears on Wikimapia, but not in a list of accredited colleges in the region. — 199.125.109.15 (talk) 20:58, 3 April 2008 (UTC) http://naacindia.org/Colleges.asp?state=0
Incomplete and contested proposals
With the exception of a brief description of the problem or objection to the move request, please do not discuss move requests here. If you support an incomplete or contested move request, please consider following the instructions above to create a full move request, and move the discussion to the "Other Proposals" section below. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.
- Water Resources Development Act and Water Resources Development Act of 2007 seem to be backward because there are several WRDAs with different years and the description for Water Resources Development Act is actually the description for WRDA 2007. I'd suggest a Water Resources Development Act similar page to Flood Control Act so that all of the WRDAs can be listed. In other words, and to expand the idea of the move, WRDA should redirect to Water Resources Development Act which should list all of the WRDAs, one of which should be Water Resources Development Act of 2007. I'm not sure how to actually swap the pages and fix the links and redirects, so I didn't attempt this myself. Don'tKnowItAtAll (talk) 17:31, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- The other acts referred to are Water Resources Development Act 1974, Water Resources Development Act 1986, Water Resources Development Act 1990, Water Resources Development Act 1996, which articles are all redirects to Water Resources Development Act of 2007. If you think that each of them can be written long enough, so do, and change Water Resources Development Act from a redirect to a disambig. Or move Water Resources Development Act of 2007 to Water Resources Development Acts and describe all the Acts in that one article. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 21:11, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- I've started making changes to the various WRDA and Water Resources Development Acts. Several redirects will still need to be updated. I also think that there are some other links that need to be checked (e.g., on the List of United States federal legislation page, etc.). Take a look. Thanks Don'tKnowItAtAll (talk) 18:07, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

- Jeremy Glick (Flight 93 hero) → Jeremy Glick (September 11 attack victim) —(Discuss)— Pre-existing title "Jeremy Glick (September 11 attack victim)", which has been a redirect, is less POV-laden. —• Gene93k (talk) 14:39, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

- Sakura → Cherry blossoms —(Discuss). The article is about the cultural significance of cherry blossoms. According to the rule WP:UE, English names should be preferred to foreign names. The word "sakura" in English is a loanword and is a more narrowly defined horticultural term than the word "sakura" in Japanese. "Cherry blossoms" is both more familiar and more traditionally used than the loanword sakura. —Bathrobe (talk) 09:07, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Workers Revolutionary Party of Colombia → Revolutionary Workers' Party of Colombia —(Discuss)— This is a more natural sounding translation, and google indicates that it is more often used. Also, there must be an apostrophe after the s in Worker's. To leave it out is bad grammar. —71.191.135.128 (talk) 06:23, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

- Oracle → ? —(Discuss)— Oracle is both the name preferred for the high profile company Oracle Corporation, and a term used to describe a person or agency with prophetic abilities. Currently the oracle article refers to the latter one, which could create some confusion. Requesting to move the current oracle article to a new article, and point Oracle to Oracle (disambiguation) instead. —Excirial 20:40, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- Meitar → Metar —(Talk:Meitar)— The correct and official English spelling of מיתר is Metar. This is the spelling on the headed notepaper of the Local Council, the street signs in the road outside (Ministry of Transport) and the street signs inside (Local Council) and most importantly at the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics. I am having great difficulty (surely becuase of my ignorance of wikipedia) moving the page because of the clash with Aviation routine weather report METAR. Help would be greatly appreciated. Benqish (talk) 18:21, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- I moved Aviation routine weather report METAR back to METAR as there was no reason for that move. If the name of the place is incorrect then it could be moved to Metar without causing the all capital version to be moved. I note, however, that it was moved to Metar before and then returned based on Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions (Hebrew). CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 06:39, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

- Kool DJ Herc → DJ Kool Herc —(Discuss)— Herc is generally known as DJ Kool Herc (or simply Kool Herc) and not Kool DJ Herc - the page was formerly titled DJ Kool Herc years ago but was moved for some reason. - A Tale of Two Sisters (2003 film) → A Tale of Two Sisters —(Discuss)— The article was originally "A Tale of Two Sisters". When a remake was announced, it was moved to "A Tale of Two Sisters (2003 film)" because of the new article "A Tale of Two Sisters (2008 film)". Now that the remake has been renamed to something completely different (The Uninvited) there is no reason for the "(2003 film)" at the end. —CyberGhostface (talk) 15:03, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- Third Division (Greece) → Gamma Ethniki —(Discuss)— The current title is ambiguous, as it could refer to the Third Division of any sports league in Greece. The article was moved from the suggested title with no explanation in June 2007. —– PeeJay 12:18, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

- Nominating the following two moves per naming conventions and Misplaced Pages:Disambiguation. The name of each book is "Harry Potter and...". In other words, the character's name is Harry Potter. I'm not doing this just as a WP:BOLD move for two reasons: The typically high traffic of both pages, and because this same move was apparently attempted in Dec of 2006, and was "boldly" reverted. (I don't see a discussion by either editor in either page's archives.) Though the latter article appears to have been created as a "split" from Harry Potter. (See: this talk page discussion.) Except that the "names" should have been to retain the character at Harry Potter, and the publication(s) at their own articles. So nominating at WP:RM in the hopes to find concensus, rather than the potential edit warring by well-meaning editors. See also: Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions which indicates "the most common name" in order to aid in searches; precision; and Misplaced Pages:Guide_to_writing_better_articles#Check_your_fiction (and it's "main" articles); among many other examples. - jc37 20:16, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

- Single object recognition → Object recognition —(Discuss) — The term 'object recognition' is used much more often in computer vision literature and it usually implies 'single object recognition'. Currently the article object recognition redirect to computer vision, which is not good. — Andreas Kaufmann (talk)
- A.S.D. Comprensorio Valsele Battipagliese → A.S.D. Battipagliese —(Discuss)— It seems that the denomination is reverted to this one. See official homepage —CapPixel (talk) 10:48, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
- Ashkenazi Jews → Ashkenazi Jew —(Discuss)— Naming conventions prefer singular nouns - see Misplaced Pages:Naming_conventions#Prefer_singular_nouns. In this case, it would also make a whole lot more sense and consistent within Misplaced Pages given the article Jew is singular, as are other article titles highlighting a religion's followers, like Christian and Muslim. —Bssc81 (talk) 06:34, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
- Although the discussion will be at Talk:Ashkenazi Jews, it is worth discussing moving Sephardic Jews as well. Thus the move proposals are:
- Misplaced Pages:Quick index → Portal:Contents/Quick index —(Discuss)— To better group it with all the other navigational pages that are listed/linked via Portal:Contents, e.g. Portal:Contents/Categorical index. And so that it can be linked internally (in a few navboxes/bars), without violating WP:SELF. (Its purpose is for reader-navigation, and hence by definition and current-practice belongs best in portalspace). —-- Quiddity (talk) 06:15, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

- Martigny, Switzerland → Martigny —(Discuss)— WP:DAB#Primary_topic —Docu (talk) 07:21, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- Death and resurrection of Jesus → Resurrection of Jesus (which currently redirects to Resurrection appearances of Jesus). —(Discuss)— The present article focuses repeatedly and almost exclusively on the resurrection, and treats the crucifixion chiefly only as it pertains to a resurrection, presuming prior knowledge by the reader of details of the Crucixion/death. This combination compromises NPOV treatment of the crucifixion. Crucifixion of Jesus is just a "semi"-disambigation page, and Death of Jesus redirects to Death and resurrection of Jesus. There is, however, an entire article for the Crucifixion eclipse. Death and resurrection of Jesus could be renamed Resurrection of Jesus and very little editing would need to be done. A separate article on the Crucifixion could then begin.--JimWae (talk) 00:17, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

- List of Batman episodes → List of Batman animated episodes — or perhaps just move it back to List of Batman: The Animated Series episodes and snip the redirect to List of Batman episodes —(Discuss) — The only TV show named simply Batman is the 1966 Adam West live-action show. Plus, the article currently at List of Batman episodes includes a number of episodes which come from shows with wholly different names, like Batman and Robin. The show, in any of its forms, was never officially called, simply, Batman. The closest it ever came was Batman: The Animated Series, which fans (and perhaps television listings) have truncated to Batman. As there's a good deal of contextual logic in grouping together all the episodes of all the shows that have shared the same continuity and production team, a more logical title would be "Batman animated episodes". Even if there are other (non-American) animated shows about Batman, this surely would be the one most users would query for. CzechOut ☎ | ✍ 08:35, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Batman (TV): Guest appearances and episodes → List of Batman episodes — (Discuss) — Following on from the above proposal, the 1966 series episodes should be changed from the current, awkward phrasing to the simpler suggestion, per usual convention for "list of episode" pages. Batman was unambiguously the title of this show. CzechOut ☎ | ✍ 08:35, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

- UNC-Duke rivalry → Carolina-Duke rivalry or Duke-North Carolina rivalry —(Discuss)— Athletics teams at UNC are usually referred to as Carolina or North Carolina. The rivalry between Clemson and South Carolina is at Carolina-Clemson rivalry, so the use of Carolina wouldn't appear to be a problem given context. —Yellowspacehopper (talk) 06:16, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem by Jordan → Rule of the West Bank and East Jerusalem by Jordan —(Discuss)— The word "Occupation" does not reflect what really happened in history, the word "Rule" is move factual. —Imad marie (talk) 06:11, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Dąbrowski's Mazurka → Mazurek Dąbrowskiego —(Discuss)— The reason is the same as for the previous request: most articles about national anthems are at the native title. Most exceptions, where the English title is used instead, are for countries with more than one official language or for anthems without a title, known simply as "National Anthem of...", none of which is the case here. In the case of Mazurek Dąbrowskiego, the English rendering is particularly awkward since I wouldn't expect most native English speakers to know what a mazurka is, let alone who Dąbrowski was. The Polish anthem is probably better known in the English-speaking world by its incipit, Poland Is Not Yet Lost, which is not, however, the official title. It's been more than a year since the last, inconclusive, discussion. Articles about anthems have become even more standardized since then, so maybe this time a consensus to move will be reached. —— Kpalion 11:21, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- (Discuss the following moves)— There has been some debate already on the talk page about the ambiguity around the name "Sting".
