- September 2: The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs receives 70 requests of assistance from Brazilian families with relatives stranded in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Meanwhile, President Lula telephoned President Bush. The Brazilian government expressed its condolences for the humanitarian disaster and pledged "any help deemed necessary". Vows to assist in the international effort to relief the suffering of the thousands affected by Hurricane Katrina.
- September 1: A day dedicated to sports in Brasília: President Lula and his Minister for Sports, Agnello Queiroz, had a meeting with Jacques Rogge, President of the IOC, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee and Mario Vázquez Raña, President of the Odepa.
- September 1: A fishing boat carrying 30 passengers went down in a river near São Luís, Maranhão. So far, only one survivor has been found, 13 bodies have been retrieved from the waters and 16 people remain missing.
- August 30: Almost a month after the theft of hundreds of millions of reais from the Brazilian Central Bank chapter in Fortaleza, Ceará, the Brazilian government vacated the vault that had been broken into. The remaining money was transferred to an undisclosed location for "security reasons".
- August 29: In Rio de Janeiro, showjumper Rodrigo Pessoa received the Athens 2004 Olympic gold medal (Equestrian – Jumping) from Jacques Rogge, president of the International Olympic Committee. The Brazilian inherited the medal after Ireland's Cian O'Connor was disqualified for doping. The cerimony was held during the Odepa meeting in preparation for the 2007 Pan American Games, to be held in Rio de Janeiro in two years.
