DepartedUser4 is taking a short wikibreak and will be back on Misplaced Pages soon. |
Back on break until the elections are over so I don't end up saying things I'll regret. I also have an almost completed article that will be ready then. I've been working on that for quite some time now...
ZOMG!
Thankyou for notifying me. Just FYI, it's usually considered good form to notify a closing admin of your objections before taking these things to DRV, I would have been quite happy to relist or have a neutral third party review the decision. In fact, the DRV instructions clearly state that "Deletion Review is to be used where someone is unable to resolve the issue in discussion with the administrator (or other editor) in question. This should be attempted first – courteously invite the admin to take a second look". I'm not particularly upset about this, but I would recommend trying a friendly discussion first next time, it generally results in a whole lot less bother and mess for everyone, including you. - Okay, I clearly just need to walk away from the computer now and do something completely different. Thanks for the heads up. EconomicsGuy (talk) 10:51, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
- No worries, and no hard feelings, I hope. Lankiveil 10:53, 21 November 2008 (UTC).
- No hard feelings. Appeal withdrawn, clearly I'm wasting everyone's time with this. EconomicsGuy (talk) 13:44, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Christian II "the Tyrant" and the Stockholm Bloodbath
Hi there, I happened to come upon the entry on Christian II. You're absolutely right it fumes with old 19th century nationalism, this is the way it used to be described in old Swedish schoolbooks and while few people would deny he was ruthless, the tone of the Christian II article is like a knight novel and does not represent any kind of modern approach to those events. I'll try to offer something better. I have some acquaintance with the historical field - my mother's a historian & archivist so I've grown up in touch with that community - and I know where to find solid sources, even in English, plus I've always been interested in the age. - Hi! Thanks, I had almost forgotten about that article! Your insight would be most appreciated. I saw the problem but I really didn't know how to fix it and Valentinian sadly left Misplaced Pages. There aren't that many Scandinavians here and those who are here don't frequent these articles on a regular basis. Let me know if you need any help but I think the issue is best dealt with by someone who knows where to look for proper sources. I'm sure the article can be improved and frankly I think the tone in the article was most likely due to bad sourcing and copying of old public domain material rather than any intentional attempt to violate NPOV. I have no problem with the article documenting how the Stockholm Bloodbath affected the relationship between Denmark and Sweden, and hence the perception of Christian II as a tyrant, but it really should do so in a more neutral way. Obviously he was thought of as a tyrant and frankly I don't blame those who considered him as such but that shouldn't be the focus of the entire article. Hello there
I know it has been a while. I thought you may want to take a look at Misplaced Pages:Requests for arbitration#Request to review User:Jack Merridew's ban. I know RFARs are in general unpleasant to even look at but this one is a light reading than your typical rfar. I am pointing this out to you as you were involved back then. -- Cat 19:15, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hi! I just read the whole thing and to be honest I don't think there's much I can do here. It looks like Casliber is going to be an arb from January which is a good thing. If Merridew really does stay away from you as promised and the conditions are enforced through the ArbCom and not depending on how Moreschi feels about it then I think you're fighting a lost battle to keep him away from EnWiki completely. Pixelface has already said pretty much what I would have said so I'd just be repeating him anyway. Casliber looks like he understands the issue with Moreschi so hopefully there won't be any problems. If it turns out that Moreschi is not being fair to you or not enforcing the injunction against Merridew seeking contact with you in any way then I'll be happy to back you up but unfortunately as it looks now I think I'd be hurting your chances of a working arrangement more that improving them by commenting. I think you have a better chance getting Moreschi removed as mentor/enforcer if he doesn't comply with the arbs decision than you do stopping this completely. Like I said, if it doesn't work out then I'll be happy to help you. EconomicsGuy (talk) 20:13, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- Oh I was merely giving you a head's up of the situation. :) Last thing I want to do is get you stressed over something like this. Thanks for the offer though. -- Cat 21:57, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Cool Hand Luke
Thank you for your support of Luke! Much appreciated. I actually don't know him well at all-- I supported initially based on his answers, but I've became more of an advocate when I saw he's was being treated pretty unfairly by some folks.
Anyway, now that you've supported, I wanted to check and see whether you forgot to your statement where you say you've decided to abstain. Just trivial bookkeeping, but I didn't want to just assume it was okay to strike it on your behalf.
Thanks again --Alecmconroy (talk) 07:06, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- Done. Thanks for reminding me! EconomicsGuy (talk) 07:19, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
