Kevin Bishop (born 18 June 1980) is an English actor, writer and comedian.
Early life and career
Bishop was born in Orpington, Kent. After playing Sam Spalding in the BBC series, Grange Hill (1994-5), he was cast as Jim Hawkins in the 1996 movie, Muppet Treasure Island. He subsequently appeared in several British television series, including Pie in the Sky, Love Soup, My Family, Peep Show and Spoons. He also played the title role in the 2002 television pantomime, Dick Whittington, as well as the lead role in the 2002 film, Food of Love, and the 2004 film, Suzie Gold, starring Summer Phoenix.
In 2005 he played comedian Dudley Moore on stage in Pete and Dud: Come Again, a drama charting Moore's turbulent relationship with Peter Cook, which debuted at the Assembly Rooms as part of the Edinburgh Fringe before transferring to The Venue in London's West End in March 2006. That same year, he could be seen in the Channel 4 British Comedy Awards 2006 winning comedy Star Stories. He is currently appearing in the UK adverts for the bank NatWest. The first edition of his new sketch series, The Kevin Bishop Show, commissioned by Channel 4 as a six part series, aired on 25 July 2008. He recently married his long-term girlfriend.
Bishop had recently taken of the role as Carter in Neil LaBute's new comedy Fat Pig, which has recently transfered to the Comedy Theatre. He stars alongside Kelly Brook.
Bishop gained notoriety for his rowdy behavior during the 2008 British Comedy Awards, broadcast live on ITV1 & ITV2. During the awards, he shouted abuse at award winners James Corden and Katy Brand, and heckled Ricky Gervais during his pre-recorded acceptance speech VT. During the ITV2 conclusion of the ceremony, Bishop threw breadsticks, a BCAs brochure and a plastic bottle of Pom pomegranate juice at the cast and producers of The Inbetweeners as they accepted the award for Best New Comedy, the category Bishop's show had been entered in.
