Biography

Amanda Tapley is a native of Birmingham, Alabama and a graduate of Briarwood Christian School. She attends Samford University in Homewood, Alabama where she is studying music and pre-med. She has been studying the piano for 13 years. She was first taught by her grandfather, Dr Witold Turkiewicz, who was a Samford University music professor. Her career goal is to become a Pediatric Oncologist. She produced a charity CD and hosted a piano concert to raise over $27,000 for pediatric diseases and for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Competitions

She is Michal Turkiewicz's cousin. Tapley won the 2008 Miss Alabama Scholarship Pageant held at Samford University. Her local title as Miss Samford University placed her in the Miss Alabama competition. Tapley’s platform is “Music For A Cure” and her competition talent was piano. In January 2009, Amanda was on the TLC show "Miss America: Countdown To The Crown". She was a wild card gold sash winner, making it to the finals of the preliminary competition. After a nationwide vote, Amanda was selected as one of four "America's Choice" winners, which placed her into the top 15 at the Miss America pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was also 2nd runner up to the Miss America Quality of Life Award for community service.
