The purple ribbon is worn in Canada by women in memory of the Γ‰cole Polytechnique massacre to denounce violence against women. (See National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.)

At county and state fairs in the United States, a purple ribbon is the award for placing seventh in a contest.
