Its director is Father Tadeusz Rydzyk. Radio Maryja supported the victorious Law and Justice party and Lech Kaczynski during the parliamentary and presidential elections in Poland (Sep/Oct 2005).
Leadreship
The radio Maryja was founded by Father Rydzyk. He is the director of the Radio Maryja is so powerful today, that in the polish Parliament some parliamentarists use the words ‘Dear Members of Parliament and Dear Father Director’.
Finances and ownership
Radio is owned by the Catholic Church, and is financed from donations of its audience. Radio Maryja is, according to Polish law giving special rights to the Catholic Church, not bounded by any accountancy rules, so Radio Maryja do not have to prove the sources of finincing for the radio (and the whole media complex of TV and daily newspaper) comes. The other ‘non-religious’ stations have to product the origin and the accounts of their finances. Combined with the fact that Radio Maryja openly promotes various political parties, it does not allow for transparent political process.
Audience
The radio is listened by approx. 1,2 million people daily. Its audience peaked in 1998, when the radio had 2 million listeners. The group influenced by this radio is estimated to 4-5 million people.
Antisemitism and Xenophobia
The radio station was often accused of being antisemitic. This is not so rare within the Catholic Curch in Poland (radical Polish racist bookshop Antyk, is for example located in the cellar of the Church of All Saints (Wszystkich Świętych) at the Grzybowski Square in Warsaw).
In Radio Maryja audience was for example infomed that the Jewish people fled from Poland with Jewish Gold , that Jewish People cause that the quantity of Polish children to diminish . It is often repeated that the masonry rules the world and that the Jews will conquer the world . It was once said that the Jews rule the country and their government should be removed with violence and Radio Maryja should take the power . Jewish People working in World Trade Center were accused of betrayal and conspiracy (that they knew everything before). Even the words of German chancellor G. Schroeder about Poland were falsified.
Rejection of Holocaust
In 2000 Ryszard Bender, a historician from Lublin Catholic University announced on the waves of Radio Maryja, that Auschwitz was not a place of mass extermination, but a place of hard work. Bender openly rejected the Holocaust, by saying that Jews have only worked in Auschwitz.
