Jazz trumpeter. Born Louisiana 1900; died New York City 1939.

Influenced by early New Orleans trumpet/cornet players Bunk Johnson and Joe King Oliver. Moved to Chicago in 1920s where he started making records. Clarinetist/writer Mezz Mezzrow rated him second only to Louis Armstrong.
