The Whopper is the signature sandwich of international fast food chain Burger King. The product is a hamburger, consisting of a quarter-pound fire-grilled beef patty, sesame seed bun, lettuce, sliced onion and tomato, ketchup, mayonnaise, and pickles. Extras such as cheese and bacon may be added, and Whopper Jr., Double Whopper, and even Triple Whopper varieties may be ordered. The Whopper was created in 1957 by Burger King founders James McLamore and David Edgerton and sold for 37 cents; nowadays, the cost of a Whopper (in the USA) ranges from 99 cents (during promotions) to 2.49 USD and higher, depending on restaurant pricing. Burger King sells about 1.7 billion Whoppers each year.
