Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland

Dear Lihaas, let me explain why I think the devolved governments of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland should not be included in the list of state leaders articles. In my understanding they are just the next level of government, like the ministers-president of Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels in Belgium, or the premiers of Canada or Australia. You might argue that autonomous regions are also included in some states. Those regions enjoy a unique legal position and level of autonomy within their states, so they are set apart from the rest of the country. For example the Åland Islands, while being called a region of Finland, just like the rest of the territorial units of the country, enjoy a much higher degree of autonomy than those, and in that respect are in a unique position within Finland. However within the UK the parts that have their own chief ministers are three of the four constituent "countries" (England, Scotland, Wales, N Ireland), so their situation is rather the rule than the exception. Someone else argued earlier than since it's only three people, it doesn't take up that much space so as to render the list too long. However consistency should be an important editing principle, so one should avoid ad hoc exceptions where possible. If these leaders were included, there would be no argument against including for example the leaders of the Belgian regions, which have a surprising level of autonomy in international comparison, but together cover the whole of the country. And Belgium is not the only such example. As you might recall the republics of Montenegro and Serbia were united in a state union called Serbia and Montenegro between 2003 and 2006, where the federal level was significantly weaker than the governments of the constituent republics, but nevertheless the internationally sovereign entity was the state union. And since Montenegro and Serbia had the same powers within the state, neither was in a special, unique position compared to the other. So the inclusion of the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish leaders would be the first step on a slippery slope where more and more people could advocate the inclusion of the regional or local leaders of their country and the argument for the inclusion of the autonomous regions wouldn't hold water anymore. By the way, I even mooted the idea of deleting the autonomous regions on Talk:Lists of state leaders by year, but have not received any feedback so far. So these are the arguments which suggest to me that while not denying the importance of the devolved governments, their leaders should not be included in the List of state leaders article. I don't think that the autonomy of Belgium's regions is a little known, obscure fact either. And as I wrote consistency would demand that for example the Belgian regions be added too - and you could say that it's not a lot in itself either. If arguing for the Scottish, Welsh and N Irish leaders, would you also include the leaders of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska on the same grounds? I've just counted, the List of state leaders in 2010 article currently includes 261 entities, without the British, Belgian and Bosnian regions. My question was not about including the three-member presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, because that's unquestionable. I asked that since you want Scotland, Wales and N Ireland to be included, would you also want the two constituent entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina (the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska) included. Please stop changing the formatting of the July 15 entry on 2010 in LGBT rights. Your changes take the entry out of compliance with every other entry on every other similar list. Entries should be date-specific, so only the Senate action from that date should be in the entry. Entries should be present tense. I meant the actual nominees, not the transcluded table. For example, your nomination of the visit to Lebanon by the Saudi king and Syrian president did not contain a source; therefore, the story could not be evaluated properly in the beginning. The article linked was not yet updated at the time of the nomination, so HJ Mitchell did not know the backstory to the event. I'm moving the discussion here because you asked the question, and it's well known to those familiar with the article. The content in question keeps getting added by one particular user who is banned from editing Misplaced Pages due to his unrelenting edit warring. Before he was banned he posted much of this numerous times, and it was consistently rejected. Since then he has made dozens of sockpuppet accounts, the sole purpose of which is to add a growing laundry list of items intended to show that Obama is a liar, hypocrite, incompetent, etc. Although the editor in question is a very cordial, likable guy, the general feeling is that we should not dignify his antics by acknowleding them or allowing them to trigger dissent, somethign that WP:DENY speaks to. For that reason his accounts are simply blocked and his edits summarily removed without comment rather than going through the usual sockpuppet procedures. - Wikidemon (talk) 12:22, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

My suggestion is to nix continuing this discussion back on the Barack Obama talk page and start a seperate and specific discussion on a issues relating to Obama. Broad discussions usually don't go well and some don't go period. If so, I didn't want to censure or vandalize this page since before I carefully saw the various modifications and read the explanations. For some time in the context of the 2010 Swedish general election on 19 September 2010, there was more often some partial and libellous informations on Sweden Democrats's page. Anyway this page is actually protected until 22 September. Another time, I will always write a short explanation if I remove or add something.

Thanks, I made them with matplotlib, an advanced free software tool in Python for creation of diagrams and mathematical plots. (You can find the source code that I used to create those diagrams here.) I got inspired after the corresponding article on the UK 2010 elections. That article has actually some more good ideas that we could integrate into the SGE2010 article – the most tediouis of which would maybe be to create a map showing the results down by each electorial circuit (riksdagsvalkrets) by combining File:SWE-Map Län2007.svg and File:SWE-Map_Kommuner2007.svg. --hydrox (talk) 19:31, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi, this source is ok but is clearly not correct as " Dr. Imran was from Bihar and therefore was known as a Bihari Mohajar" - the comment is half correct, but Dr Imran was not from Bihar, he was born in Pakistan Karachi. .. so I wouldn't use it for that, the story is .. Imran Farooq's father was from bihar and moved during the partition and Imran was born in Karachi, Imran is therefore the son of a Bihari Mohajair ... but I don't see the father in there, I have seen in one of the cites about his fathers position in the political house, but not for the fact that the father was from Bihar, so that comment although a bit cited is still not clearly correctly cited by using that cite...can we find the comments about his father being from Bihar and moving during partition in a cite? I want to know how can i clarify this sentence: "The heaviest rainfall recorded was 178 millimetres (7.0 in) in 1982" Its a complete sentence, or it should be "The heaviest monthly rainfall recorded was 178 mm in 1982. ??? And also for this one "when the city received snow twice after a long period of fifteen years."

I have edited the above sentence as: "During the drought of 1998-2002, Quetta didn't receive any snowfall; while in 2004, 2005, and 2008 it has generally had snow only once a year, however in 2004 and 2008, the city received heavy snow for two times in each year after a long period of fifteen years"

The above sentence means, in 2004, 2005, and 2008 Quetta received snowfall, but in 2004 and 2008, it received heavy snow more than one time in each year. Which implies that in 2004 and 2008 Quetta received heavy snow after the period of fifteen years. I think i have make it clear now. And yes the sentence regarding the rain is meant for monthly which i have added.

Hi, Lihaas. I thought I'd explained the edits enough on the edit summary but maybe I was wrong. I removed large chunks of information from the article which just amounted to gossip--essentially the article read like "Saad Hariri said this" and then "Hezbollah said this in response" and then "Saad Hariri countered with" etc etc. It was long paragraphs of back and forth reactions, without any real substance. I wanted to make the article more concise and readable to someone who was unfamiliar with the topic.

I guess I removed the "expert tag" without thinking, though I think the section explains who the false witness (or is it witnesses?) is. Someone testified to the STL that Hezbollah killed Hariri, and his testimony was later disregarded by the STL, and pro-Syria factions have hinged on the affair to deny that the STL is credible at all. Could someone please see this template, it seems to be making some mistake with the tables overlapping. Only the first 2 lines should be open for the 2nd round, with the other candidates blocked, and then the last 5 lines should be open again.

Thanks for your message. It would be great to work with others on the article. It might be a while before we should go for FA or even GA though, as I suspect we wont see a resolution this year, and it might not be until another few months till we have good academic sources which summarise the various views and put the current episode in historical context. You've made a lot of good additions to the article, but if we're going to be working together I hope you aren't too strongly in favour of tags? I consider them unsightly and ineffective. There are backlogs with thousands of articles and so IME they rarely attract helpful editors and possibly discourage readers who would otherwise make corrections, Ive had sometimes dozens of corrections in a month from IP editors on untagged articles. Okay, lets give it a shot. As long as you dont mind possibly doing more than half the work as Im not sure how much wiki time Im going to have over the next few months. Even if it fails at GA level at least we'll be improving an important and topical article. I was worried before that it would be hard to provide proper context without straying into borderline OR, but since then sources have started to come out comparing the current situation with the 1930s. I think we should keep our use of economists forums to a minimum to save arguments about whether they're compliant with policies , but there should be articles coming out in the journals soon. There are already some on Vox we could use. I dont know anything about DYK so Ill leave that side of things to you. My degree is in physical chemistry, I don't have formal training in economics but do have some practical experience both from the market and government perspective having worked at investment banks and at Whitehall. 2010 Copiapó mining accident

Hi, thank you for taking the time to help us improve the article. There was definitely a lot of activity on it the past two days and it needed fresh eyes to help streamline parts of it and do some cutting and pruning.

We are currently rated 'C' across the board. I looked over the standards for 'Good Articles' on the various projects that it belongs to and think we are ready for reassessments but I have never requested that before. In general terms, do you think we are ready yet? Do we have any glaring weaknesses we need to work on yet? I hate to waste their time. Hi Lihaas. I do not understand why you are adding the tag to this article. I think it is very clear what a secular, right-wing party is - it's a right-wing party that believes in the separation of church (or synagogue in this case) and state. But secular right-wing is not oxymoronic - there is no assumption (perhaps apart from in America) that right-wing = religious. Also, I haev to say that Conservative-Liberal is not oxymoronic either - only Americans seem to equate liberalism with left-wing politics. In Europe, liberalism is largely associated with free-market economics, and so right-wing in terms of policy. пﮟოьεԻ 57 10:58, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
