Jenn Shelton (born 1983) is an is an American ultramarathoner. She has set course records in several of the most demanding American ultramarathons.

Early life

Born in Virginia Beach, Shelton now lives in Ashland, Oregon. While in high school, she was a state champion gymnast. Shelton attended the University of North Carolina where she played on the rugby team. She dropped out to focus on writing poetry, but later enrolled at Old Dominion.

Ultrarunning

Shortly after Shelton began running ultramarathons she won several races and soon became one of the top female ultrarunners in the United States. During races, she is known to drink Mountain Dew and eat pizza.

In 2006, she traveled with Scott Jurek, Christopher McDougall, and several other ultrarunners to Copper Canyon in the remote southwestern part of the state of Chihuahua in Mexico to run with the Tarahumara.

Records

She currently holds the course record for the Old Dominion 100 Memorial, the Swinging Bridge 50K, the Holiday Lake 50K, the Rocky Raccoon 100, and the Crater Lake Marathon.

Personal life

Shelton enjoys surfing and has worked as a lifeguard. She now sells running shoes. Her favorite authors include Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, and Hunter S. Thompson. She has been romantically linked to fellow elite ultrarunner Erik Skaggs.
