Children of the Sun is a role-playing game created by the now defunct Misguided Games, Inc. in 2002. Built using the original setting of Krace, an island of giant, supernaturally tough trees, it was part of a generation of steampunk settings that appeared beginning in the late nineties (although the creator characterized the game as dieselpunk). Most notable about the game was its original system, the Token System, which allowed the player to use a token to determine initiative and interrupt other character's turns.
Dieselpunk is a neologism which describes a fantasy society with an industrial level of development, informed by cyberpunk sensibilities. The term, coined by game designers Lewis Pollak and Dan Ross, was used as the concept and to help market the game. Dieselpunk is an alternate history environment in which the most important aspect of society is diesel fuel and the machinery that depends upon it. It has been noted that the distinguishing characteristics of a dieselpunk world as explained by Lewis Pollak: "... a world of grit and oil, dust and mud, also is one in which magic and technology are combined. Dieselpunk is the darker, dirtier side of steampunk."
