(Kapu = The Protector)

It is a caste found in the Indian State of Andhra Pradesh. They are also called Balijas, Telagas or Naidus. They make up about 25% of the population of Andhra Pradesh and are involved in various professions.

On the whole they are sturdy, tall, sharp featured, usually dark brown in complexion. Many of today's Kapus strongly resemble people in Chalukya Rashtrakuta and Chola paintings, especially the girls. Note the pic... looks like today's Naidu girl in Nalgonda or Adoni or Vuyyuru. ( or anywhere in AP...most of the folks featured in old paintings are sharp featured and dark complexioned....).

They are predominantly a kings community after which settled as land lords,presently setteled as farmers ,business people and also in many professions.kapu's are the earliest inhabitants of South India who had migrated from Kampilya (near Ayodhya),so called Kapu. kapu's come under kshytria community. The list of kapu kings and dynasties include Vijayanagara Empire,Chola Empire,chalukya empire,kakatiya king(only Munusuri kapayya nayudu),Tanjore kings(nagama nayakulu,vishwanadha nayakulu etc)...All these informatiom has been gathered from Balijapuranam in chennai library,for further information u can log on to the website for history of kapus
