Central Terminal LRT Station, sometimes called Central or Arroceros LRT Station, is a station on the Manila LRT Yellow Line (LRT-1). Like all other LRT-1 stations, Central Terminal is above-ground. The station is located in Ermita in Manila. The station is so-called because it lies at the center of the line. However, a popular name for the station is Arroceros, having been given its name because the station lies in Arroceros Street.

It is worth noting that Central Terminal is one of the four stations and terminals in the whole LRT-1 system that allows commuters to catch a train going in the opposite direction without paying a new fare, due to the terminal's layout; the other three stops are Carriedo, Balintawak and Roosevelt.

Central Terminal is the last station of LRT-1 south of the Pasig River and serves as the ninth station for trains headed to North Avenue and the fourteenth station for trains headed to Baclaran.

Nearby landmarks

The station is near some of Manila's major landmarks, such as the Manila City Hall, Manila Central Post Office, the National Museum of the Philippines and Manila Metropolitan Theater. The Walled City of Intramuros is also within short walking distance from the station, and so are a few government offices like the Department of Labor and Employment and Bureau of Immigration; and public parks like Mehan Garden, Liwasang Bonifacio and Arroceros Forest Park. Shoppers will be able to find themselves content with the nearby SM City Manila.

Due to its location in Manila's University Belt, the station is near educational institutions such as the Colegio de San Juan de Letran, the Philippine Normal University, the city-owned Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, the Mapúa Institute of Technology and the Lyceum of the Philippines University. All those institutions, except the Philippine Normal University, lie within the walls of Intramuros.

Transportation links

Owing to its name, Central Terminal is a major transportation hub for LRT commuters. A bus terminal lies near the station, plying the Taft Avenue route. Taxis, jeepneys and cycle rickshaws are also available to and from the station. The Lawton station of the Pasig River Ferry Service is also nearby. Like its sister station in the LRT Line, Araneta Center-Cubao LRT Station is the Central Station of The LRT (MRT2) Purple Line.

LRT-1 disrepair

In 1990, LRT-1 fell so far into disrepair due to wear and tear that LRT trains headed to the station to avoid further damage to the support beams below. Poor construction was also alleged by some, but was not proven.
