Indian English

Hi, do you think a Misplaced Pages in English, written in Devanagari script is a good idea? There are many speakers in India, and it could be much easier for them to read and write a phonetic English in Devanagari than in original English with this irregular orthography. For example, the letter can be written in at least ten ways, gnu, who, root, shoe, fruit, blue, two, through, crew, you, ... Articles in Devagari could then easyly be transcripted (by a bot?) into the other Indian scripts like Gujarati, Bangali, Tamil aso. — Murtasa 8 July 2005 00:38 (UTC)

Sorry for the cross-talk. But, why would anyone want to read English in Indian language scripts? I don't think there are many Indians who speak English but can't read that. Instead, we should promote the regional language wikipedias themselves, say Hindi, Marati, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali etc. Perhaps I didn't get your point clearly. -- Sundar July 8, 2005 04:11 (UTC)

Hansraj Morarji Public School

Hi Hemanshu,

Are you an ex-student of HMPS? I studied there for full 10 years. Can you guide me to an alumni website or club on campus? I live abroad. Also, would it be possible to put up lists of the Principals of HMPS on Misplaced Pages, and maybe of ex-faculty and present faculty, with contact details, for the benefit of alumni. I think our campus is so beautiful that we surely should put up some snaps

Missing articles hotlist

I have reverted your most recent changes at the Hotlist of missing encyclopedic topics. Your previous removal of valid blue links is very appreciated, but if you think that a redlink is in appropriate, please move it to Suggestions for non-inclusion rather than removing it wholesale. All of these topics came from encyclopedic sources (general or specialty) and deserves some sort of coverage in wikipedia. I checked several of the links that you removed and many can be developed in full length articles or at the very least be redirected elsewhere. Can you also put edit summaries into your entries, it made tracking your changes quite difficult. Thanks so much. --Reflex Reaction 15:00, 19 October 2005 (UTC)

I did not remove the red links. I moved them to a separate page. Please check. --Just my 2 cents -- Hemanshu 15:27, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
Where? There are not listed on Suggestions for removal. All but one of your changes in the last 20 days have been to the hotlist. Where have the been moved? --Reflex Reaction
I have spent the last hour looking your changes and it appears that you have removed links from the Hotlist that covered by Britannica and Encarta but not[REDACTED] (See and , note that Academy of Geneva , Acatalasia , Acarigua , Acmeist Movement are listed but haven't been created).
While I would like to finish this project quickly as possible, the goal it to create content, not to fake completion. I haven't checked to be sure, but I am fairly sure that some of the bluelinks that you deleted did not have complete coverage, i.e. the titles may have been the same but they may have referred to the different persons with the same name. --Reflex Reaction 16:26, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
It appears that I was confused about the deletion of items for which I apologize, but your lack of edit summaries, movement of content to pages not linked to the template or main project page made that confusion very easy. I would like to change the format back to single level list as is the convention with all other projects rather than using subpages. It makes the calculation of completion much easier and navigation to articles much easier. If you have no objections I will do so tomorrow. --Reflex Reaction 17:08, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
The main reasons I moved the links to subpages was coz the pages were very long so I wanted to divide them to make them easier to access and I did not want to disturb the overall organization of pages. I do not mind if you want to ensure all pages are linked to from the template but I would prefer if the pages weren't too long. --Just my 2 cents -- Hemanshu 07:07, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
I actually don't have a problem with the pages being too long, but I understand why anyone would think so. The pages started at 100 but people complained about them being too short, especially when there was so many blue links to trim. 500 ended up being a comprimise number. The other option decrease page size is to increase the number of pages, which I really don't like, the template is crowded enough as it is and it would require more frequent reorganization. --Reflex Reaction 18:29, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

hi

hi there,

I recently noticed that there is already an article on "hassan" which is quite different from what the discussion page says. Actually Hassan is an indian city. So please help me disambiguating the articles and help me in creating a new article for Hassan.

Image Tagging Image:Shivaji.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Shivaji.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Misplaced Pages (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairusein|article name}} or {{fairuse}}. See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --SCEhardT 04:27, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

Hindi Misplaced Pages logo

Hi, it appears you are an administrator at the Hindi Misplaced Pages. The logo is incorrect as pointed out on the Main page's talk page, but it doesn't seem that anyone has seen that. The page is locked, and I'm not a Hindi admin so I couldn't fix it. Thanks - Taxman 19:41, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Pan_parag.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Misplaced Pages (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If you believe the image qualifies under Misplaced Pages's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{db-unksource}}.

Image Tagging Image:Chandler at work.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Chandler at work.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. Doubt on state infobox edits

Hi Hemanshu, I just noticed your edit to Andhra Pradesh - the infobox, where you inserted "order_of_area=11|". However, "area_magnitude=11 |" is already present - i don't know if this is redundant and which of these needs to be removed. Also, you seem to have carried out edits to several other states' infoboxes. You may want to review them as well. TIA, --Gurubrahma 05:19, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Article request

Greetings Hemanshu! Could you please kindly help me write a stub for this article? - It is based on the English article just several lines would be sufficient enough. Please. It does not matter if you are not a Christian. Your help would be appreciated (I do not know what the correct title for Marathi should be). -- David, 02:49 Tuesday 14 March 2006 (UTC) (It does not matter to me if you are not a Christian)

Karisma Kapoor

Hemanshu, you changed the intro for Karisma Kapoor so that instead of reading Bollywood actress, it reads Indian actress. Now there's no link to Bollywood anywhere in the article, which I don't think is helpful to readers who know nothing about the Indian film industry. I would revert, but you're usually a solid contributor and improve articles. Can you tell me why you made this change? Has she appeared in movies from another regional industry? Would you be OK with making it read "Indian actress who appears in Bollywood movies"? Zora 01:59, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Indian current events

I see you updating this page. But never got to talk you. And it's only two of us there. Thought would say a hello. And just noticed you are an admin too. If I do anything wrong on that page, please let me know. - Ganeshk (talk) 20:25, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Hello Hemanshu, When you add news articles on to the India current events page, could you please add them to this page too, Template:Wikiportal:India/news. It shows up on the India portal. It would help keep portal current, one of the requirements for a featured portal. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 03:16, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Request,Nomination for removal Khalistan article

Hello Sir I'm nominating this page for deletion because it is written with a point of view , excessive use of unreliable sources.and the title "Khalistan" is wrong for the topic because "Khalistan" does not exist, lack of support from resident Punjabi's and Sikhs in India, but there was a "Movement for Khalistan" and that is the right title for the topic, and i think this whole article "a new name" should be rewritten with the help of people from sikh community "in" India and other Indians, because this topic is related to politics/people of India. We all should understand Khalistan is not a political entity and having a article is not justified, Microsoft Encarta and Britannic encyclopedia don't have an article known as "Khalistan" but they do have articles on the movement that took place decades back, and i think there are also copyright issues involved with this article because big parts of this article are written on other peoples research. Many reliable sources are used to show "one side" of their view on the topic, there are also indications that organisations banned by US and EU are involved in providing their research on the movement.I am a strong supporter to have a stub on this topic , but im afraid that such articles on[REDACTED] have become mouthpieces for organisation which are known for disrupting peace (assassination of one of india's prime minister, twin bomb blast in New Delhi on the eve of Diwali) in Indian sub continent. This article requires your attention , please help. Anmol.2k4 18:29, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Sonia_thumb.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Sonia_thumb.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Misplaced Pages's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

List of car models available in India

I understand it's a list. I'm not wanting to have the information deleted, it just looks like the information there heavily overlaps with the information in Cars in India (which is also a list). Is there going to be a significant difference between them? If not, it would probably be best to merge them. --Interiot 02:45, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Okay, whichever. I do think the articles overlap quite a bit, but I'm not really interested enough in the articles to try to push for a resolution, or to tag them with {{merge}}, or whatnot. --Interiot 08:36, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Press contact details

If you are receiving this message, you are either a new, existing, or possible future press contact for one of the languages you speak. What does this mean, being a press contact?

The Wikimedia Foundation runs a Communications Committee, which co-ordinates requests for interviews from the press. When we receive a request for an interview, often the journalist wants to interview someone that speaks their "native tongue", or someone that lives in the same country as their publication. For this reason, it is important the the Communications Committee keeps an up-to-date log of contributors that they can trust to represent the community in a professional manner.

This list of press contacts has started to grow. The goal is to eventually have at least one trusted user on the list from every country in the world, and one user for every language that the Foundation runs a project in.

What are your responsibilities? Whenever a journalist requests an interview, either by phone, by e-mail, or (rarely) in person, you are able to either answer the interview request, or pass the request off to another user that you trust. Whenever a newsworthy milestone is reached on your project, you should help co-ordinate the creation of a press release, and once it's ready, send it to me to post in your language's press room.

Any questions, comments, or concerns? Contact me directly. -- en:user_talk:zanimum
