Problem

There is a problem with an article about me or about someone I represent.

Solutions

Before you read anything else on this page, please visit the Article subjects FAQ.

Fix it yourself

If the problem is minor — incorrect spelling or grammar, a wrong date, nonsense, spam, etc. — then feel free to fix it yourself. Minor cleanup is not only acceptable, but encouraged. Be sure to note your changes on the article's Talk page.

If you are not sure about whether or not you should edit the article, don't. Try another solution instead.

Leave a note on the article's "talk page"

Every article has a dedicated page where editors can discuss the article, its content, and any issues that may exist. This page is known as a "talk page", and it functions like a messageboard for its respective article. You can find the talk page for any article by clicking the "Talk" tab above the article title.

Please see the talk page guidelines for suggestions on how to make the best use of talk pages.

Click on this link and clearly explain what information is incorrect, and what the correct information should be. We ask that you provide sources where we can verify this information, preferably on an official website or independent resource, such as a newspaper article. Once you've completed your suggestion, click "Save page".

Please note that Misplaced Pages has no editorial board. The volunteers that will process or answer your posting may have never heard of you and may have never intervened in the article you are interested in. Whatever was written in the article is not the result of a choice from the Wikimedia Foundation. See Misplaced Pages:Editorial oversight and control for further information.

Contact us via e-mail

We have a small group of volunteers who answer e-mailed questions and complaints. Your e-mail will never be made public without your explicit consent.

What we cannot or will not handle through e-mail

  • We will not prevent other users from editing the article on you. We can temporarily protect articles to halt vandalism or to end a content dispute, but we will not enforce your preferred version. This is in accordance with our neutral point of view policy.
  • We will not delete or replace an entire article on demand. Instead, please tell us what exactly is wrong with the article. We can then attempt to resolve the problem in the most appropriate manner.
  • We will not add content through e-mail. Additions should go through the normal editing route.
  • We cannot remove specific revisions from article history on demand. Our volunteers are technically unable to do this, and in many situations this also violates our license. However, if the revision contains nonpublic personal information or blatant libel, then a different set of volunteers may be able to help; please see Misplaced Pages:Oversight for further details.
  • We will not handle requests related to articles that have been deleted or refused by Misplaced Pages users and which you think should be reinstated. Our volunteers do not act as an appellate body for such issues.
  • We cannot reveal private information, such as the IP addresses of registered Misplaced Pages users, except when mandated by law. This is in accordance with our privacy policy.
  • We will not phone you back to hear your problem, even if you ask. Please state your concerns directly in your e-mail.
  • We can only fix problems on sites maintained by the Wikimedia Foundation. We have no control over any other sites, even if the other site is also a wiki. You can see a complete list of Wikimedia Foundation projects here.
  • If you are not connected to the article subject, please do not e-mail us; instead, please use one of the other methods suggested above.

How to e-mail us

For a prompt response, please be sure to include the following in your e-mail:

  • The exact URL of the article in question. This is shown by your web browser as http://en.wikipedia.org/...; please be sure you copy and paste the entire URL, and that you have not left any characters out. Remember, we have millions of articles; we can help you faster if we know exactly where the problem is.
  • The exact sentences that you think are wrong or unsuitable. Please explain specifically why you think they are wrong or unsuitable. Try to avoid general remarks or discussions of larger issues or controversies, as this will delay response.
  • If you have specific legal concerns about the article, then please put Legal concerns in the subject line. Please note that this may delay response, as we may have to involve legal staff.

Send your e-mail to info-en-q@wikimedia.org .

  • Please stick to plain text. Our system does not show boldface, italics, different colors, or any other formatting, and not all of our volunteers' computers can handle Microsoft Word or other types of attachments.
  • Please do not write in ALL CAPITALS; this is rude and hinders reading.
  • Please do not provide your password. The volunteer response team does not need to log in to your Misplaced Pages account. Please keep your passwords secure.
  • Please write in English. Messages written in other languages may not be handled promptly.
  • If you have a spam filter, please be sure it is set so that you can receive our reply. Some spam filters make us jump through hoops, or even simply trash our answer.
